Post by: Trust... on February 15, 2010, 00:05:02
We have a HD digicam 5.1 surround sound. Great audio, but we can play the videos only on our PC's can't convert it?

So does anybody know how to convert .m2ts files ?

Just for "fun" last summer, I did some conversions from M2TS to more basic formats (like MPEG-2 and H.264/MPEG-4) with TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress, and with excellent results:

This has been my favorite program for general video editing for quite some time, although I prefer to use CinemaCraft Encoder SP for standard definition MPEG-2 encoding. Anyway, that's just me. What format are you looking to covert to?

As for the 5.1 audio, not sure about that. I'd have a hard time believing that a camcorder itself can produce great surround sound. If that's the case, you won't lose much by converting it to standard 2.0 or 2.1 stereo.
