What is your favorite b-side from The Cure?

Lament
2 Late
The Exploding Boy
A Chain Of Flowers
I'm Cold
Fear Of Ghosts
This Twilight Garden
Another Journey By Train
Play
To The Sky
The Big Hand
A Foolish Arrangement
Scared As You
Snow In Summer
Harold And Joe
It Used To Be Me

Altea

I woted for:

A Chain Of Flowers

Great song!!!

japanesebaby

neither is/was my #1 choice but i'm somehow delightedly surprised that at the moment the good ol' 'lament' is about to beat the all time favorite of everyone and their dog 'this twilight garden' - go lament go!
Ay, in the very temple of Delight
Veil'd Melancholy has her sovran shrine

It's a bit hard to see Lament as a b-side. It's something hybrid between an A and a B side.

fansmith

i vote for "the exploding boy". excellent song for me!

cureterra

*a chain of flowers
*fear of ghosts

LAMENT for me... It is for me the sound of The Cure I LOVE !!   :smth022   dark, depressing and eerie guitar  :smth035  and wicked drums, like a heart beat...
although I have to agree with marika about 10:15 and Just One Kiss missing from the list! Also.. Speak My Language!!  ;)
Seventeen seconds
A measure of life

Cure Freak

Breathe
Lament
Descent
Chain Of Flowers
This Twilight Garden
Fear Of Ghosts

...and many others

rubcure

I voted for exploding boy; but now that i'm checking the answers I think that cure's fans share similar preferences on b-sides.

i really like
play,
a pink dream,
2 late,
out of mind (very underrated)
splintered in her head...

join the dots is such a great thing, i was overjoyed when i bought it and listened to it for months on end!

I went for I'm Cold.
I do like most of the B-sides & in fact prefer them to the a sides.
Lament is a belter of a song & musn't forget 10.15 Saturday night.

But, I was a little disappointed not to see the b-side of the Hanging Garden 10" on the list, as for me, this is their best B-side ever.
A Forest & Killing An Arab live.  Can't beat that I'm afraid. :-D
Cheers

Yes, 10:15 would be the best! I didn't even think of that as being a B-Side, because I think of it as a single. Haha. It's just such a great song, it's timeless!!

Lament is great, even the flexipop version is nice.
Waiting is a great song too that I forgot about.

robiola

Lament for me, too. My favorite side of the Cure's sound.

Poe

Even though there are better b-sides that I like more, I keep returning to A Man Inside My Mouth and Waiting when I listen to Join The Dots. Quite "efficient" songs, in their own ways...

It Used to be Me was the best (or maybe second or third best -- Bare and Want exist, after all) very probably the best song to come out of the WMS sessions. I love it. I'm going to go listen to it now.

All he needs is everyone I've ever been
And all she needs is everywhere I've ever seen
All they need
Anything I've touched
And all you need is everything I've ever loved
Everything I've heard
Everything I've learned
Everything I've tried
Everything I've held
Everything I've felt
Everything I've lost
Everything I've cried...

Until my hole head shrieks
With grinding my teeth
Desperate to find a single word I can keep
Any kind of truth
Any kind of hope
Oh, just any kind of word that doesn't make me choke....

Hahahaha... I started to read these lyrics, and found myself singing it before I knew what I was doing... and loud to, as I'm home alone!!!! *chuckle*

You make some good points japanesebaby. When I first started to listen to The Cure, I found it a real joy to 'discover' the b-side! And when I eventually got the cassette tape for Standing On A Beach, I loved LOVED every bloody b-side on the tapes b-side... LOL, does that make sense?? I voted for Harold and Joe, but there are others I would have liked to vote for!
