Another underrated band, still existing, are Human television. Maybe not obviously sounding like the Cure (especially the singer sounds completely different than Robert), but the overall mood and instrumentation is very 1985-87 Cure-ish. I love that band!

What do you think?

not bad, but maybe a bit trendy/teenage-oriented for me.but thanks for the tip, i didn't really know them before.
anyway, to me they sound a bit like some kind of a teenage-oriented/"blink182-ish" version of The National:

(perhaps it's because of brooklyn NY - perhaps it's a common trend there... ;)

which to me sounds like... i don't know, a combination of and also the trees and bruce springsteen (in a good way). anyway, to my ears the national has more musical depth/less trendy "poppyness".
i think there's some "melancholic mellow quality" in their sound that make them somehow "cure-ish" (although at the same time they hardly sound like each other at all).

Take a listen to the brillant Portishead album "Third". I think you can hear some The Cure influence (Pornography area) on some tracks ... especially in the opener "Silence". By the way it's the best Portishead album so far.

Well, what about "Dummy"!? I think that one has greater songs... It also was more important - in terms of overall impact - when it came out.

Of course "Dummy" is a milestone. My comment regarding "Third" means only the parallels between Portishead and The Cure. "Third" is so different from all other Portishead albums, isn't it?

Great band, like you said the cure-factor comes more from the overall atmosphere of their work. I saw them live some months ago, great concert, maybe my second favourite band for the moment.

Post songs that are similar to The Cure songs...

EKV - 7 Dana

EKV were a band from Serbia. Most popular in the late 80's.
Their song 7 Dana (Seven Days) is quite similar to A Night Like This.

Fatter than Bob, balder than Porl, as sober as Simon, as amusing as Jason

Miki Gonzales - Vamos al Tocache

(to me it sounds like a copy of Primary)

It sounds like a rip-off of the guitar riff of ANLT, that's right...

Well you can merge the threads but it's not the 100% same issue.
One refers to the sound, one refers to the riffs, same song structures...

i see. but i think the conversations are so closely related that it would be easier for people to find this thread/these threads if it was put into same thread, under same discussion. when people start talking about cure sound they soon start talking about riffs and structures too and then we're in the same area and it will be hard to know which thread would be the "right" one. that is/was my point.
anyway.

by the way, this thread reminds of one really old thread:

In this I agree with Janko, I think this topic refers to songs from other artists similar to Cure songs (and because of this I think the thread title can be labeled as "Songs that are similar to The Cure songs" instead "Cure Inspired Songs").

However, the thread you mention, baby, should be merged with this one, I think.

Anyway, this discussion belongs to the cure things section, this is not off-topic right?
