what's everyones favourite cure video?
i love pictures of you with the snow and the palm trees, i thinks its a fantastic image!
Lullaby is the best cure's video in my opinion.
Then The Love Cats, Just Like Heaven, Friday I'm In Love and The Hanging Garden and of course HOT HOT HOT !!!
pictures of you (extended), never enough, the end of the world, alt.end, just say yes, the 13th, mint car
NEVER ENOUGH
why is pictures of you not included on the greatest hits dvd ?
catch also has a great video, the caterpillar is dead funny and so is hot hot hot but they're not included - boohoo
these four should really have been on the dvd -
what are the three bonus videos by the way ? i never found them
the bonus videos are pictures of you, the caterpillar and close to me (remix)
To access the Pictures of You video
Highlight 'Friday I'm in Love' on the video menu and press Down, Down, Down
To access the remixed version of Close to Me
Highlight 'Close To Me' on the video menu and press Up, Up, Up
To access the Caterpillar video
Highlight 'The Walk' on the video menu and press Down, Right, Right
The Walk is a pretty funny video... watching Lol dancing is a hilarious disaster!

yes, it was a party. i read they were pretty drunk while filming.
my favorite video is never enough, followed by why can't i be you?, and boys don't cry.
Favorite cure videos: The Hanging Garden, A Forest, Other Voices, Killing An Arab, Charlotte Sometimes, Why Can't I Be You, Never Enough, Lullaby.
In Charlotte Sometimes Robert have a beautiful blu ice eyes...
Yeah, Charlotte Sometimes is wonderful. So dark and sad. But my favourite is Other Voices. The guys look pretty cool in this video.

what's everyones favourite cure video?
I really love each one ... except "The 13th", "Mint Car", "Wrong Number", "Cut Here", "Alt.End" and "Taking Off"
I love "Catch" because I wish I lived in that villa by the sea.
Hot hot hot made me laugh for a long time when first saw it, and close to me is brilliant, i can just imagine tim pope going "yeah, i know, we'll stick you in wardrobe and then push you off a cliff!" :-D :rocker i liked the way 'the end of the world' video was done too, kind of animated effect.
OTHER VOICES
Just like heaven and Gone ex aequo
Charlotte Sometimes is my favourite one. The boys looks really "dark" and "great" there.
In the other side I love the Friday I'm in Love video!!!
Quote from: Tristan BerlinYeah, Charlotte Sometimes is wonderful. So dark and sad. But my favourite is Other Voices. The guys look pretty cool in this video.
for me it's Why can't be you? they are like a boys band
My favourite is Forest, Other voices Primary, etc.
Can you tell me, where I can Download Play For Today video? Thanks
Taking off...so happy so green
catch
beautiful surrounings, band looks best in this period
I think the pre-Tim Pope videos kinda sucked. Though Charlotte Sometimes wasn't too bad, most people seem to hate it.
i like inbetween days...i don't know why...but i like it :)
I love "Friday I'm in Love." lol. It's so goofy looking.
Inbetween Days and Just Like Heaven :smt098
Friday I'm In Love was the first video I saw by them, so it's definitely up there. Hot Hot Hot!!! is just damn funny, especially the extended version. And I've always liked the dark quality of Charlotte Sometimes, even though Robert thinks it was the worst video they ever made.
And many more...
Never Enough
*freaking* cool ...after the lull the dark giant will storm...
The Caterpillar
my first cure video...
The End of the World
lots of reminders to older videos (or maybe it's just my imagination)
The Lovecats
(meeeooooooooww!)
Inbetween days
love the juxtaposition of the eerie fluorescent faces with the 'happy' black-and-white main film... i've been wondering if it could be a way to mirror the double nature of the song, happy music and sad lyrics...
"Jumping someone else train" I like :smt049
Railways it's my hobby :smt040
lullaby - the first video i ever saw... although nowadays it looks amazingly bright and even a bit too sunny at times...?
never enough
why can't i be you? - wonderful idiotism! still makes me laugh every time i see it :smt043
inbetween days - never mind the socks, close to perfect!
the end of the world - magical atmosphere, but they sadly lost it immediately with taking off then :(
(charlotte sometimes:
for me it's the second most embarrassing video they've ever made - the first position in this category goes to
lovesong, clearly... :smt120 )
the cure have a thousand excellent videos...
i love catch, lullaby, charlotte sometimes, the caterpillar, cut here, lovesong...
Close to Me and In Between Days cause these videos are one of the reason of my Cure addiction and i discovered Cure with. and at these time it was really special and cool videos (still are)
The Lovecats
Lullaby
Hot Hot Hot
funny, brilliant, unique.
the worst are the first they made before they meet Tim Pope. Charlotte Sometimes is ... don't know... a joke ??? the worst of the worst: just a big "clich?" like for example "cold and sad video for cold and sad people who listen to cold and sad music" (you have to say it with a dark voice). no ideas and imagination in.
Just Like Heaven
Lullaby
Never Enough
The 13th
:smt023
I really can't choose, but my little sister who's now 4 always loves videos such as lullaby, the lovecats, let's go to bed, wrong number and never enough..and I think these are my favorites too hehe.
Lullaby, Lovecats, Just like heaven...but especially Why can't i be you and Let's go to bed...they're so funny!!!!!!! :-D
A night like this, catch, lullaby and let's go to bed!
charlotte sometimes, never enough, lullaby, hot hot hot!!!, WCIBY, the hanging garden, .......
Favorite videos...hmm...
Lullaby - awesome imagery and feeling of claustrophobia
Just Like Heaven - beautiful camera work and use of color (not to mention one of the best pop songs of all time)
I think I love them all :D Let's go to bed, why can't I be you?, the lovecats, friday i'm in love.. they're so funny!
llulaby!

THE LOVECATS
Its hard to think of a more perfect video actually, what more could you ask for?

And I forgot CATCH and CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES, too!! :smth049
Oh... and FASCINATION STREET...even it's nothing original, but it's so strange and dark, with fog and wind, robert has something mysterious in that video...I don't know why, but I like it very much! :-D
Oh Lullaby wow! I love the make up in that one and all the spiders webs and ROBERT IN PAJAMAS!
Andddddd i forgot The end of the world - Its not as good as the tim pope videos BUT i like it when robert rolls around in bed lmao! :-D
The video for Charlotte Sometimes really freaks me out though with the staring and the girl looks about 20 which is wrong and its just a bit scarey but i love the song.
I love the little dollies/puppet things in Close to Me, i only watched the newer version the other day and it is sooo werid, like an episode of the boosh or somthing but still brilliant.. I thought they might start singing under the sea instead... now that would be good! :smth023
I love In Between Days where Robert plays with the swinging camera and gets kicked in the behind by one of the little colored socks, and Close to Me is very original and hilarious!!!
5.Why Can't I Be You/Friday-They're so random.
4.Play For Today-The Cure Look so serious in this one.
3.High-After The First Verse, it does a close up of Simon on Bass, which I think is the best moment. Also, the humor in the second and third verses.
2.Other Voices-They all look so cool in it.
1.InBetween Days-Whenever I watched it, I can't help but to smile. Especially when the sock kicks Smith in the butt. XD
Jumping Someone Else's Train. It's complex in it's simplicity. :-D
The Walk
Why Can't I Be You

JUST LIKE HEAVEN is ok, too...I love when Robert dances with Mary, they're so cute and tender!!! :smth057 :-D
I like the Why can't i be you video.

And who can resist Robert dressed as a bear? Or Simon as a...bird of some sort? :smth023
Think he's supposed to be a crow.
I thought he was supposed to be some mega man character. XD
Looking at the costume, it's obvious it was put together last minute. Very cheap looking. Just a black bed sheet, and old fuzzy guard hat and a huge piece of cardboard folded and painted to look like a beak.
See.... :-D

ANyways, the best costume in that music video is by FAR Humpty Dumpty (a.k.a. the egg thingy)
XD I love in Mint Car, when Smith ends up in the Japanese Scene and he's just like "what the heck..." and just walks away
I like the way a lot of the videos look...... Like Just Like Heaven and High, have a weird kind of thing that makes them look cool. I really like the Cut Here video aswell even though its just mainly performance....... and of course Close To Me is a classic. 8)
Lullaby
Close to me
Why can't I be you?
In my opinion FRIDAY I'M IN LOVEis the greatest video they've ever done. It's just so perfect and fun! And it's nice to see Robert run down the stairs at the start with a big smile on his face which he has for the entire video. Much like Mint Car too. Lullaby and Pictures of You are also favourites of mine.
Why Can't I Be You?
Cut Here
The Caterpillar
Just Like Heaven
And The List Goes On!
Lullaby's their best video - probably always will be.
Once they got Tim Pope on board things started picking...
Pictures of you... so sweet...
Charlotte Sometimes and Lullaby are my favourites.
Never Enough is a nightmare.
Quote from: Virpi on March 28, 2008, 20:50:34Never Enough is a nightmare.
...But in a good way, right? I mean, Robert crawling out behind the little stage, and then flashing his chubby lady legs...all lovely moments. Nice setting too.
My all-time favorite must be Lullaby, although In Between Days is pretty close as well: an unbeatable happy-sad vibe in both the video and the song. Brilliant. Lullaby has a great atmosphere in it...Robert in bed wearing jammies, yeees...and oh, he gets eaten by sofa cushions at the end. Just brilliant.
Then there are the vids I enjoy for obvious fangirl reasons: Caterpillar (Rob's eyes and leather pants), Lovecats (Rob's dance), Mint Car (Rob's crazy smile and taking off his jacket) and Catch (Rob being Rob)....Well, what did you expect? I dare you all to judge me!
Quote from: Poe on March 29, 2008, 18:13:40he gets eaten by sofa cushions at the end.
hey come on, it was a mind-shattering special effect back in '89 - we were all just !
'charlotte sometimes' is one that i can't bear to watch. i've never understood why people think it's great. i think it's completely outdated and not only that, i bet it looked silly already back then when it was new.
for instance 'another journey by train' is a lot better video.
Quote from: japanesebaby on March 29, 2008, 23:39:23

Ey, I wasn't dissin' the effect at all, I have the utmost respect for it, it's right up there with the muppet show...:-D Seriously though, I think it's quite good, actually. The way you only see the mouth of the spider swallowing Robert works for me...
I think there's a nice atmospheric 80's feel to Charlotte Sometimes, but no, I wouldn't say I've ever thought it was that good as a whole. It seems to mostly just be her running around in slow motion and Robert looking hard. Perhaps if you've read the book you appreciate it better...? Oh well. It's mostly the song that makes you want to watch it.
Another Journey by train, eh? Didn't know there was a video...I imagine it being quite similar to the video for Jumping someone else's train, which sure gives what it promises... :smth001 Where can I find this vid? Not on youtube or video.google, it seems...
Personally, my fave videos (today) are -
Catch - a beautiful, dreamy song in a gorgeous setting,
Fascination Street - one of my fave songs and there's just "something" about the video I love,
Friday I'm in Love - guaranteed to bring a smile to my face every time I see it (it's on my iPod in case I need cheering up during the day)
Lullaby - a classic video, what more is there to say?
Never Enough - just love it, and
Other Voices - great song, great look....
and poe, absolutely NO judgements from me!! ;)
In fact, the talk of Robert in jammies has got me thinking - from memory he wears striped blue jammies in the Let's Go to Bed and Lullaby videos and the Siouxsie and the Banshees Play at Home video..is it the same set of jammies?? Hmm..me thinks it may be time to do some research....
Quote from: sues777 on March 30, 2008, 01:54:35

Ewww...do we really want to know? (and yes, I know he's probably washed them in between vids if it's true...). Well, sounds exciting. We're on to him, I can feel it!
...
Okay, I checked the vids, and don't the Play at home jammies look...bluer than the ones in Let's Go To Bed? Probably just the lighting though.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7F4TAmHYPnk&feature=PlayList&p=0D43D47089038479&index=80
(Rob's jammies in quite high resolution)
I think the case is settled: they're most likely the same jammies. Perhaps not the exact same ones, just the same design...Case closed. 8)
Hmmm, no one picks pictures of you.
I love the playfulness and the odd setting - so much trouble to go through, and then plastic trees or something. It was a surprising video, that doesn't really match the song lyrics at all!
I think for sheer brilliance, it's close to me, especially when you look at the videos of 1985, this was really colourful, inventive and dark, with the claustrophobia etc... I love that they play a comb!!, and the lack of panic for such a bad situation
Lullaby is probably the one I watched most you get a real performance out of Robert. I like how he is stuck in a web in the wall corner, just staring kind of angrily - and the clawing hands on Robert's chest is a bit creepy - of course the effects are cheesy, but I think this is intentional. Like the spider's mouth at the end (my wife thinks it looks like something else, ahem). also the clock ticking in time with Boris' drums!
I had never seen the Wrong Number video until lately - wow, that was really botched. I think this is their worst.
Erik
I adore the madness of "Never Enough". I also like a lot "Wrong Number" video because it gets me more into the song.
But I think that the "Just Like Heaven" video is my favourite because this is the ultimate Cure image and the perfect Cure world... Up there, in heaven, above the raging sea, above all, dressed in black, dance with angels...
And then back again
"Close to Me" is their most brilliant video, I think. Really clever and funny. But most of the videos directed by Tim Pope are good, including "Boys Don't Cry", "In Between Days", etc. I also like the "Charlotte Sometimes" and "The Hanging Garden" videos, which are somewhat more amateurish but still manage to convey some of the mystery in those songs...
A Forest, Charlotte Sometimes, Close to Me, and Lovesong!
Just love the imagery in all these.
Well...Close to Me is just hilarious!
1 - Alt. End :smth023
2 - Friday I'm In Love
3 - In Between Days
and Perfect Boy is good, but now one of my fav's. I like Porl there... very nice looking! :D
Well, I'm ashamed but I coudn't watch the Perfect Boy video  :( Porl is really scary there!
My favourite videos:
1. Pictures of You - dreamy and funny, I always have this warm feeling in my chest after seeing it...
2. Wrong Number - very scary but in the good way!
3. A Letter to Elise - simple and very sad, makes me cry
4. The Hanging Garden
5. Alt.end

Aw, that can't be. Porl being scary? I can't imagine it. :)
I do agree with you about Pictures of You... especially the long version. Also...
In Between Days - I love the way Tim Pope used and manipulated the cameras for this one! Such a fun video. :-D
Charlotte Sometimes - It's like a horrible attempt at something poetic and dreamy that comes off as a terrible b-horror film which is why it's brilliant! :smth023
Other Voices - Love the lack of color and camera lens, incredible video!
Catch - Côte d'Azur!
Close to Me - Very innovative... love the little "instruments" everyone uses. Fantastic ending when they finally fall into the ocean.
High - Beautiful colors and light, beautiful Cure members, beautiful song.
Inbetween Days - because Robin said in an interview on 120 Minutes awhile back that he felt it really brought out the image of the Cure.
But I do like doing the "Why Can't I Be You" dance! I had to rewind or play/search that video tape so many times to get the dance down right. Ha!

Just Like Heaven & Lullaby get my top votes. Catch is nice, but Lol messes it up with his violin removal, while on Fascination Street I recall Simon proping his hat back on!
Yeah, I like Lullaby too. To me that's another video that shows their image as (well as Fascination Street.) I love the way they all look in Lullaby especially Robert covered up in spider webs. He looked cool in Never Enough too when they were on the small stage. That heavy black eyeliner looks great on him. Catch is very beautiful & scenic.

That is so true. I've always thought of the video and the song as paradoxical, a bit hard to define, both happy and sad at the same time, just like The Cure... The downbeat color scheme together with the tickle-inducing camera movements, the melody that makes you want to skip together with the sad lyrics...really sets the perfect "Cure mood." Know where I can get hold of that interview, perchance? :D

When 120 Minutes & Post Modern MTV were around, I taped a lot of stuff & they are on VHS. I definitely NEED to get all these onto a DVD disc. I even have the Rockumentary they did on the Cure during the Wish era where Perry said "being in the Cure is like being a school gang", Boris saying he never thought the Cure would take off the way it did, Simon saying that before some shows, he would get so nervous that he would have to jump around & Porl saying that "since Teddy's been in the band, the atmosphere has been lighter." Yes, there is a special of 120 Minutes that Robert hosted & that is where he said that about Inbetween Days. I also have an interview he did on 120 Minutes & where he talked about Simon getting very ill @ the end of the Wish tour & when he develop pleurisy (when water gets into the lungs...) & Rico Suave from Shelleyan Orphan (I believe?) stepped into to finish the tour w/ the them. :)

roberto soave (unless it's another one of those nick names...).
he played with shelleyan orphan and presence.
btw the videos with roberto soave on stage always looks weird to me because one is so accustomed in seeing simon there, with all his funny jumps and moves. i've no complaints about soave's playing and i think it was a good decision from the band at that time, not to cancel the tour but keep going. and although looks/appearances shouldn't matter it's always just so interesting to pay attention what a striking effect the absence of simon has on the cure's "collective stage persona", so to speak. on the visual representation of the band.

Yeah, I will admit, I liked the Cure lineup back in the Wish days. I did always look for Perry when seeing them live but also Simon & Robert. So if I didn't see Simon there, I would say it's not the Cure.

I'd love to see that, don't know where to look for stuff like that. Google would be a start of course...

i think currently one master version (for rockumentary 92) is up on the tracker on foreverdrowning.net.
pictures of you :D it's simple, and i like the props.
i really enjoy all the cure videos that are just crazy and don't make sense at all. like lovecats, caterpillar ( mint car ) and let's go to bed.
pictures of you and just like heaven are very beautiful.
but in the end lullaby is just very atmospheric and somehow different so it's my favorite video. it freaked me out the first time I saw it. I wasn't even used to robert's make-up so i was shocked
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i forgot primary and catch. looooooooooove those :smth041
lullaby is still my favorite. i talked to my mum about the cure and she doesn't even like them but she was like... i remember that scary video with the spiders.... that one is great :smth043
I love lullaby, Charlotte sometimes, hanging garden, primary, lovesong, just like heaven, hot hot hot, never enough, the end of the world ( i love stop motion movies!) hmm.. catch is pretty cute as well as boy dnt cry.

HANGING GARDEN
:smth023 :smth023 :smth023
I love their early stuff -"other voices", "a forest", "Hanging Garden"-stuff like that. I also like "Never enough" and "Lovecats" is cute. I really like the live music.
Charlotte sometimes
Catch, Pictures of You, Inbetween Days, High
I really like Pictures Of You, it gives me some tumblr-hipster vibes, lol.
Catch, Fascination Street, Friday I'm In Love, Just Like Heaven, Why Can't I Be You?, In Between Days, High, The Hanging Garden, Close To Me, Boys Don't Cry, Hot Hot Hot, The End Of The World, Pictures Of You, Lovesong, Lets Go To Bed, In Between Days.
Hm, I really used to like the Cure's videos back in the late 1980s and early 90s... but it is difficult to name all the faves. I used to watch these compilations w/ the vids put out by the band as soon as I had a VHS video player ("Staring At The Sea" & "Picture Show" & later "Galore")! However since then, my interest in videos has diminished.
Back in the day, I really liked "Inbetween days", "The Caterpillar", "Lullaby", "Never enough" and "Just like heaven" (and yeah, the snowball fight at the tail end of "Pictures of you"!), nowadays still a fave is "Catch" (hence the topic about the single & video elsewhere here).
Btw, welcome to the Forum, Spock93! :)
