So, 2018 will see me collaborating with Robert on a feature-length, chronological documentary of The Cure's history from the 1970s via present day to the future. Robert himself will tell the story and this will work alongside other events for the band's 40-year celebration.

The film to which I will bring my own style of jiggery-pokery will use as well as 'old favourites' a cornucopia of material from Robert's collection which has never been seen before: Super-8; interviews; bootlegs; rare performances; behind-the-scenes, blah. Updates 'as and when'.

The above post was written by @Ulrich (I wanted to split it from the previous topic but was unable to do it)

No confirmed release date yet, right?

Nothing known so far, except that Tim Pope confirmed he & Robert will be working on it.
IF everything will go well, maybe the documentary will be shown in the second half of the year?
We'll have to wait and see. Robert seems to be quite busy (remastering "Mixed Up", remixing songs for "Torn Down", curating Meltdown festival, preparing anniversary show...)! :o

...but as you said Robert is very busy at the moment, so I think it will take a long time for the documentary to be released.
QuoteThis year, Pope is also working on a feature documentary about The Cure's 40 years in the music business, which will include archive footage supplied by the band's front-man, Robert Smith.:(
"Robert Smith is giving me access to 50 boxes of film, which have never been seen before, of the early Cure days," Pope said. "I want to make a film like 'Goodfellas' where Robert is narrating the film in a first-person way, and it is like crazy and we are on this journey." He added, "Robert's songs always deal with being the outsider."
Pope started working with the band in 1981 and last worked with them on a music video in 1997 – on which his runner was Guy Ritchie. Pope toured with the band across six countries three years ago.
The Cure documentary is unlikely to be finished this year, Pope said."

Sometimes I wish I'd been wrong...
