Hmm, the question I wanted to ask seems to have generated alot of chat in here! As I have no children of my own I really don't understand the NEED some people have to become parents - each to their own however!

Well, the following are kind of personal questions, so feel free not to answer them if you think they are too personal... Have you ever had children in your family that you were frequently with? Have you ever held a new born child of your blood in your arms? Have you ever loved anyone so profoundly that you felt sure you would want to spend the rest of your life with them? It is my guess that if you had, you would probably understand why people want to have children. But then again, as you say, each to their own.

And also lets not forget that at times Mr Smith is less than honest in interviews! Things that are personal, as this question really is, should get a lie as a response. If I was talented enough to warrant media intrusion into my life, I would lie constantly in interviews! More to make myself 'seem' more interesting than I actually am, but also to throw people of the scent! I think it is far easier to lie about something than come across as all up yourself and 'private'... that can come across as a tad wanky!

It's true Robert has a reputation for lying in interviews and he himself has admitted that across the years he has lied just to make things more interesting or just to piss off the press. But I don't think this is the case here. I remember this particular interview with a woman journalist and they were going all kind of intimate (in a innocent way, mind you), I just can't believe that Robert was lying on this occasion...

Oh I just had a thought (da da da darrrr  :smth100)... I reckon the reason children never happened for them anyway is the fact that Mr Smith was always touring or recording.

Not always. I think in the 90's there were fair periods of time when The Cure activities were almost inexistent. It would have been possible to "squeeze" some children in there, so to speak. And anyway, most rock stars are almost always other touring or recording and that doesn't seem to prevent them from having kids.

melly

when Robert was quite young he made the decision, and told his parents, that he wasn't going to have kids. Simple as that. and yes, he adores his nephews and nieces...as he does his whole family.

Yeah, that's a well known story, mentioned in the "Never Enough" biography, for instance. But I don't think it is very insightful to say "simple as that" because, well, as far as I remember, Robert was just about 12 years old then... He was not even a teenager! How can you take his words at that age seriously when the subject at matter is clearly one that only adults can truly understand?

I have Nephews and a Niece that I did spend alot of time with... Might be why I don't want kids of my own! LOL... They're heading into their teens now, and so they can be reasoned with! (sort of) BUT, I have never really liked people persay, and as a result I thought having my own child would bring me into closer contact with other people, ie; parents. Not desirable! I can understand the "Have you ever held a new born child of your blood in your arms?" bit... I think that would be a very DEEP thing! Just not for moi. And with the world the way it is.... BLAH - I'll get to depressed if I go much further!

Animals are more my thing!

I also had just thought of another good question, but lost it typing this out... bugger it!

well, I have never read the "well known story", so there ya go....just repeating what was said... not trying to be "insightful" at all, just passing on a conversation and not something out of a book...
he was 10 actually, round about...and maybe, just maybe, Robert being who he is had that thought and just stuck to it. * shrugging shoulders* he wasn't just your usual run of the mill kid you know...

If you were given the chance to ask Robert ONE QUESTION ONLY, what would it be?

Sounds weird but my question would be:

Can I give you a hug?

Trust...

It' not weird. My question to all the band members should be:

Can I give you all guys a big kiss

i might just ask to shake his hand. ;)
you see i'm from northern europe, i like to keep my distance, especially when i respect/admire someone. maybe it's the japanese side of me too. ;)

&this reminds me how i've never understood/felt comfortable with the french/southern european way of saying hello by giving a person kiss on both cheeks. it feels like a kind of forced intimacy, the way you're supposed to do it with even people you don't really know that well. always bothered me. anyway.

That's why I should ask it  ;) and not just doing it. If the answer should no, than - a normally hand shake with a lot of respect. ;)

I would ask Robert why he played the 007 riff during the intro of Pornography during their 1982 tour.  :D  I hope he tells me that "you are the first have noticed that and what an excellent question." :smth023

That was funny.

I have no idea what I'd ask.
Maybe something about his "fish guitar 84/86". What happened to it ?
Could he give it to me, if it's just rotting in his garage ? :-D

"Can you swim??" :-D

you already posted hints about the answer here? -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jrxAnA3B_0
;)

(if still in doubt, perhaps you could use robert's own method and lure him by a pool and just give him a push and see if he can make it!)
