How right was Robert when he said in an interview in 2012 that religion "it's at the heart of so much discontent and idiocy in the world". Today, this brutal attack in Paris, before, the Inquisition, the Roman Persecution of Christians and etc etc etc.

Eight atrocities committed in the name of religion

A very sad day and a very bad start for 2015.

Indeed.A tastelessness in form of a caricature is one thing, but
murder is different.A solidarity concert from The Cure in Paris is just a thought
and maybe an important sign against inhumanity.

Of course when you want to express something quick, a little caricature is easier to use than a long speech, here if i write a few lines, i will express a caricature, this is a generalsation, but there are exeptions. Separation between the State and the Church is quite new in developed countries (not even all), and not in many poor countries, ho it's so hard to exp^lain. It's an instrument of power upon poorly educated people with much belief. Like a weapon, religion is not a problem in itself, It's a problem of education, it's what you do with it. But it's been like this for since man is man so it won't ever change probably. But when i hear some muslim of France today in 2015 saying 'good thing it happened to them', i can't believe my hear! Some people sqpit on their own country (France) all the time, but i am very happy to live in such a country when i see how it is in other countries under shariah where women have like no rights, children can't play kite or it's not allowed to have a bird at home because when it sings it's like having music, so it's forbidden, and in the same time men watch football and pornos on their mobile phone. That's complte hypocryt and crazy. I despair of humanity. Since I'm a grown up, i have always wonder how i could help the world, but.... What are you supposed to  do with some people who want to spend thousands of dollars to kill Salman Rushdie where it would be better spent building schools, clapping for killings because of caricature (in a satirical paper, doing what it should) and then happily burning our flags... Freedom scare the people who are privated from it, because they are afraid to loose their power. oh f**k, i'm sure some people will complain about what i just wrote, forgetting my first sentence....

That's understandable.Strindberg asked in his book "Lilla Katekes För Underklassen":
Can mankind live without religion? Yes,for the upper class, which have the means
and resources for existence it's easy, but for the lower class living by constant fear
for one's livelihood it's hard.By the way the book wasn't published during his lifetime...

I believe it's even more profound than this. Man has always been looking for answers about something bigger than him, and when you don't have education, you believe in someone who can speak and structure ideas.

MeltingMan

Yes.I think it is necessary that young men worldwide,if you will, boost their
self-esteem before they contemplate revenge and expanded suicide, the worst case,
and good education is like a life jacket. ;)

Paris, once again.A bitter end for an otherwise mediocre year. What comes next?
Public events only with police protection or should "we" declare our cities to fortresses?
A European tour or single event is more and more unlikely. :(

The Vatican has always been "under threat", I'm sure they do know.
Also, in today's newspaper I read that Italian government will spend an additional 20.000.000 Euro on security for Rome!

Having a pope that used to be a hitler youth shows that people have NOT lost their sense of humor...

dsanchez

You are incorrect, Cheyler, Ratzinger is not the Pope for some time now.

I knew that, I was just trying to make a point about how backwards and turned around organized religion can get even to this day, or even just a few years ago. It's funny and sort of sad when I think about all the concessions made by the Roman Catholic Church in an effort to get people back into the fold (and failing miserably in the attempt).  It's IS definitely a crazy world.

In the name of Lord and then I have to agree.I grew up in a catholic family, too,
and I don't think that this kind of bringing up was completely wrong. On the other hand,it's easy to promise
a life after death with reportedly thousand virgins, when no-one had ever returned from "there" to tell
the whole story.
No-one claimed also that living in democracy is easy.I mean the problems with those guys have been
known for decades,as well in Germany and something have to be done.We will see...

Technically, one person did come back (or is it two?  either way I don't buy it for a minute) but I guess they were all too busy putting their eyeballs back in their heads to get any actual information and he was off again.  Did I mention that I don't buy it for a minute?  The threats and intimidation and forced guilt I got from the catholic priests 40 years ago are, to me, nearly the equivalent of war crimes.  Telling a kid he or she is going to hell unless you do this or that (or more importantly, to them, unless you DON'T do this or that) is criminal beyond description and I will have nothing to do with any of it.  Not, at least, until the day I find out the truth.  And you know what it takes to find out the truth...  I forget who said it but this sums it up nicely:  "everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die".

Ever notice that most people in authority are committed to 'stopping' things?  I much prefer people who 'start' things or get creative.
