Don't forget your DAT, your MD, your HD, your tape recorder... :)

I'm sure many guys around would like to trade with you...
Australian concerts are always highly valuable

No kidding.  I hope it's not another 6 or 7 years before quality recordings circulate.

I've always wondered how does one get into the concert with the taping equipment..es[ecially if they have a "no recording devices allowed" policy...haha..I'm sure there will be an obvious answer to this...but I'm intrigued...
If I had the expertise and equipment, of course I would gladly record and share with the rest of the cure fan world!

:D   I'll be there  still nothing about Melbourne up on the Ticketek site tho. Rang them this morning presales on Tuesday 19th June 12.00. They are having general admission tickets and seating tickets as well . Both will be on presale or public sale on Friday 9 am. Seats are $119.90 and General admission 99.90 according to the lady I spoke to. Some tickets are already gone before the presale but I am taking the chance for seats on the presale. I'm a bit old to be in with all you young ones LOL but they should be good seats regardless. Though I doubt if I'll be sitting down much at all. Can hardly wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My kids can't wait either cause it'll stop me buzzing around this place like a lunatic.

I just checked ticketek, and the information is up, here's the link

http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=CURE07&searchId=1449cfe2-90e4-4474-b666-8dc2b50452d6

I'm probably going to get GA tickets but I'd have to line up pretty early to get a good position in the crowd. For presale tickets via internet apparently you need a special code.? not sure

I am 33 and this is going to be my first Cure concert! I could not be happier!!! I hope all the Emo wanna_be_goth kids dont beat me to ticketmaster on Friday!!!!

I am seriously going to cry when I listen to Disintegration of plainsong :smth020 live for the first time!!

any other 25-45 people in Melbourne, if you are on the same situation as me..... ( feeling like a misfit amongst you age group for liking the cure) and dont wanna hang out with 14 y.o kids wearing purple stockings and expecting the cure to be some sort of my chemical romance meets good charlotte  :smth011....I am going on  my own.  :)

:D  I think there are alot of "older" Cure fans going to the concert so don't panic. Age has it's benefits though. 27 years I been waiting for this. I was 18 in 1980 about the same age as alot of the younger fans who'll be going. I've the Cure in my life for over half of it so I'm blessed. Hehehe. I'll be in black , but then again I am in black almost everyday :D

I'm 20 Juanzor, is that too young?  I don't think i belong to any of the sub groups above-mentioned, I'm just a fan of the Cure and their music. I wouldn't mind meeting other local cure fans, whatever age they are :) So let's all beat the "14 year olds" on Friday morning and line up at Exhibition street nice and early!!! hahahaha :smth023

Ouh! You're so lucky! Congrats on getting the ticket, and it seems like you were lucky in getting a top spot. I'll be getting GA tiks on Friday... You'll probably have a great view of people like me in the standing area who'll be vying to get in the front row, haha

Billee, I shall hope to meet you both there!

Thanks for that seating map, it's just what I'd been looking for.  I got GA yesterday, but it says GA section 1.  Do you think it'll be divided, does anyone know.  Unfortunately for those who don't have tickets, I believe that the floor section is sold out.  This will be my first Cure show, and I'm really excited about it.  :D

(PS, Section 18, row F is where I'm sitting for Gwen Stefani , they're good seats.)

14,820 seats, I think the max for the floor is 1250, so thats a total of 16,070 people all up.

I don't have a credit card at the moment..poor uni student that I am..therefore I have been forced to obtain tickets the old school way...lining up outside the box office tommorow morning! I'm expecting there will be other Cure fans there keeping me company...right?hmmm Oh well I just don't want to miss out ( they're already sold out in GA and A grade seats)...I could never forgive myself. I was going to go alone, but a friend of mine (who isn't really a Cure fan..but appreciates the music) decided to come with me :) I'm just worried about how early I should be at Rod Laver i order to get a good position in the standing area. And yes...it would be quite a treat if they played DISI!!

Haha! thanks Juanzor! Well I shall tell you all how today's happy events unfolded! I woke up, caught the first train into the city ( got there at 5.30am). I couldn't sleep all night because I was paranoid some dedicated Cure fans would camp out in the cold.... I was the first there...so I calmed down. Later I was joined by some Great people (cheers going out to the ticketek line)...no 14 year old hardcore emo's to be seen! just average people, from the age of c 20-50. it was so much fun...despite the mild hyperthermia we suffered it was woth it! I got GA tickets..there isn't a specified section..but my ticket has a number 11 on the bottom I'm not sure if that means anything...maybe it's a row :( the others in the line managed to score some top seat row A in the fron sections next to the stage! I'm looking forward to meeting you all there...you wont miss me...I plan on wearing a t shirt with big (kissing) crimson lips on it! haha
And yes maybe now i can get some sleep

xx

Only UPPER level is left for the Melbourne show.
Not bad considering tickets have only been on sale to the general public for 5 hours.

Wow, congrats, I certainly admire your dedication.  I'm glad you got GA. Maybe only the portion of tix for GA being sold online were sold out.  Either way.  I'm stil waiting for my ticket in the mail, so when it comes we can compare and try and figure out this numbering business.

Well, my ticket finally arrived in the mail yesterday.  It only says GA1 in tiny writing down the very bottom, so I'm guessing it doesn't mean anything.  Just 1st in, best dressed like a regular show.  In all honesty, this is the first time I'll have been in GA for a show.  I've tried for other shows before, but never got it before it sold out.

I am a 33 year old Cure-ie and will be attending the Rod Laver Arena Gig.. I am going solo, and although I have no problem with that, it might be nice to meet with some other Cure-ies on the night :)... I am a lone Cure fan in that absofuckinlutely no-one around me likes them... it's a very lonely place ! So if your going and are intersted in meeting me, I think it would be very nice to meet you :smth023! I have gotten a general admissions standing room ticket and I hope to be able to get close to the stage.. however I'm not overly bothered as being there is enough! I'm also going to take a camera too... I did read past enteries on recording equipment... I have yet to read further, but what about cameras? I've never understood why Bands ban you taking in cameras... but then I'm not in it for money, so I suppose they have a legit reason for you not having them in there... my camera is a tad on the bulky size, and I'm not sure how I can smuggle it in! I really would like to have a few pic's of the boys up there on stage, but mostly I would love to take pictures of the fans themselves - specially the gothic types! I am fascinated with how people dress themselves!!! I absolutley love so called 'weird' people...

Probably the most important rule.  :smth036

Though I'm the type who tends to sing along, somewhat to my shame.

Who else sings at shows?

My experience with cameras at Rod Laver is limited, but as far as I know, they're allowed so long and they're not professional cameras. The difficult thing is to define what constitues a professional camera.  I think it's something to do with the amount of zoom.  From my experience, there's usually a sign outside the venue with more specific details about what you're allowed.  The last show I went to there, I was stressed out about hiding my camera, but the guard saw it, and nothing was said.  It's a Canon Powershot A85.  By no means professional, but it does the trick. If you're really stressed, baggy pockets are often a way to go, basically, they don't/can't check on your person.

How early do you think we should get there for a good spot?  Jostling for good spots in GA hardly makes it possible to buy merch.  As for singing along, that's a big part of the fun!

Oh, and Juan, hopefully 50 other people aren't wearing the same kiss me kiss me kiss me shirt...that could cause some confusion...

If you have missed out on tickets to see THE CURE in MELBOURNE like a lot of people contact the primary promoter "Michael Coppel Presents" to request a 2nd Melbourne show.
The email address is :
mcpinfo@coppel.com.au
(I've been told by RRR Radio who are the secondary promoters for the Melbourne show it's worth emailing "Michael Coppel Presents" to show them the demand is there).

LetterToSaraElise - Cheers for your help on the camera thing... I'm going to take it and just have it in my bag and if they say I can't take it in, then so be it! It's not a professional camera by any means... and there is no telephoto lens or whatever, so I believe I should be ok with it!!!
kissingcrimson - Cheers for your nice comments on my 'look'! I have actually since moved on from that particular hairdo, and am shaved now... but the make-up remains the same, I have an overly weird obsession with Siouxsie and Mr Smith's make-up styles! (I have even taken inspiration from Mrs Smith! from a photo I once saw of her!!) If it were possible and you wanted me too, I would do your make-up for you!
Juan & everyone else... I'm really worried now about getting there early to make it close to the stage! I'm going to stress over this now! and what about buying merchandise! I can't miss out on a programme or tour shirt!!! I may have to get my partner to come and buy stuff for me while I'm in there????? Hmm, dilemma's are all around me. Also... and this is VERY selfish, but how I feel! I would hate for there to be another Melbounre show... as I would want to attend that one too... so I really hope they don't announce another show, as I'm in Tassie and I have paid for my flight and stuff there already, and another show would just really piss me off as I wouldn't be able to go to it!!!
I also have on idea what to wear! I have a few Cure shirts. As I'm sure you all do! But I kinda thought it might be naff to wear a Cure shirt there?! Maybe it would be ok... show your a real supporter?! But then I'm not sure what Melbourne weather will be like... ah f*ck it, this is all getting far to hard!! I need a cup of tea... chat to you all again soon! :smth023

I reckon the fact you're travelling from Tassie to Melb proves you're a fan [that and going to the show...] so you could be a wanker like me and wear a band shirt that will conflict with the norm - i reckon I'll have a TOOL shirt on when i see them...

regardless though, enjoy the show, it's going to be a pealer...

I couldn't afford to go to another show even if there was one.   :(
I've spent over $550 on concerts this year alone, and I'm never gonna get a car at that rate.

Cherry red, thanks for the offer thats so sweet! If it were possible I'd love you to do my makeup for me...reminds me of a Siouxsie song...haha.. it's going to be stuck in my head today :)

I have a question...Will you all (including those travelling from interstate or overseas) be in Melbourne the day before the concert (Sat/11)? It would be nice to have a sort of "Curedrink" of our own. Get a few Curefans together, chat over a few drinks? hmmm

kissingcrimson, I'm wondering what Siouxsie song your thinking of??!!
I unfortunately will not be in Melbourne the day before, I arrive on the Sunday and leave on Monday... I'd be up for a 'meet & greet' drinkythingymebob on the Sunday however... I would also be happy to meet people at a bar in the Rod Laver Arena before the gig starts!! I'm thinking I will have to be there early to try and get close to the stage anyway... so some company whilst I'm queuing would be good!!!!
juanzor... I'm going to send you a message thru your email ok mate! shame your not in GA as I am!

I am having a thought... perhapes you might like to join me in this = I am contemplating trying to get backstage after the gig to meet the Band. However I doubt very much I will achieve this aim! I have only ever gone backstage once before, and I had connections for that, so this time around I'll be flying blind (as it were!)... I wanted to know if there is anyone else thinking the same as moi, maybe we could join forces and bombard the defences and make it through!! The Band are really cool at meeting with fans, so I'm cheered by that knowledge! I am of the opinion that this is their last tour to our shores (unless they do a farewell the world tour!!) and if I am going to meet them, this is it!

I happen to know where the 'stage door' (or at least, the most commonly used one) is.  However you can't really get to it as it's on a lower level than the walkway out of the Arena.  You can look over a sort of balcony to where the cars come and drop them straight at the door, but as far as I know, you can't get down there (unless you know a long, roundabout back way, which I don't.)  However, I'll be at the arena for another show just over a week beforehand, and I'm going to be trying to get down there anyways, so I'll check it out for you guys. (Although anyone with tips for doing this is greatly appreciated.)

Meeting them is a Once in a lifetime chance...I'ts worth a try! :smth023...I've always wanted to...If I work up the courage...I'll join forces! :)

I'll be queuing for GA too, so I'm sure we'll (most of us) will meet somewhere in the midst...on the day before or after the concert...

ps: Cherry red..The song I was thinking of was "make up to break up"....for some reason  :?

LOL well thats just it matey... I'm really not sure what my personal plan of attack will be.. as I'm in GA and I would really like to get as close as possible to the stage... I'm not sure if I'm going to have to spend my whole day queueing or not! If it seems hopeless for me to get near the stage then I will leave off the queueing and just join the crowd! I'm getting into the city around 10amish and as I'm staying in a hotel nearby I will most likely drop off my stuff and then walk over to Rod Laver and have a look see at what the crowd situation is like... if people are queueing then, I will have to join it I suppose! Which means I will be tied to the queue and unable to meet any of you for pre-gig drinks... So its all up to what happens on the day! I would like to meet some of you still however - I always think it's good to put a face & personality to the typing!!! Perhapes in my case meeting after the gig would be better? But then thats brings up another problem as I'm going to try and get backstage if at all possible... ah, I dunno peoples! This may all be a tad too hard???!!!

kissingcrimson... I'm door 15 also - SNAP :-D! Are you going solo like moi? I've no idea how early I should get there to queue either! I'm thinking if its going to be an all dayer, I may have to bring my trusty old walk-a-man along!

And LetterToSaraElise I will rely on your previous surveillance of the Rod Laver Arena to locate the whereabouts of the backstage area - so we can thusly infiltrate it and gain access to the taget ie: Smith and Co.! I hereby call this operation 'operation groupie' (as thats effectively what I'm trying to be I suppose!!) and am sending out the call for any like minded volunteers to follow me into the world of the backstage off limits area, or heaven as some may call it! :smth023

Feeling a little crazy? :rocker Does anyone want to try their luck and go halvies on the Cure ticket auction???? I know this is a long shot...and I really shouldn't be putting myself in the position to splurge so much of my money...but I want to bid for the set of 2 tickets to meet and greet the Cure backstage and VIP seating passes close to the stage!....( i need to get a paypal account first...because the amnesty international ebay auction only has about a day to go!!)If the passes sell at ~$600AUD,it's approx $300 each I'm willing to pay that much(it's for a good cause)... but I know it's highly likely the auction will probably go for way more...but it's worth a try isn't it? Unfortunately I can't afford the 2 tickets on my own...and I wouldn't know anyone else who'd want to meet them too :)

what say you cureheads?  :D

Well the auction went for over $1000....more than I could ever afford. I just hope the person who won it appreciates the rare honour they've been given and trully has the time of their life! Congrats. I wish it was someone from here though..because at least then they could share with us their stories of meeting them! it looks like it's back to the drawing board for us...approaching the band as soon as they arrive at the arena..roaming around their hotel room...haha...what else??

I guess if we're just lucky to catch a glimpse that would make my day...month..year..life

Just disappointed that a U.S buyer won the auction. I could be completely off track but I doubt if they'd be travelling half way around the world to see and meet the Cure especially when they are doing a U.S tour anyway. As I said in a previous post I hope it is a genuine fan and not someone out to make money. Sorry for venting but I am bitterly dissappointed. :(

vent it out Billee, I think a lot of us (especially on here) feel the same. As other people said, a charity raffle may have been more fair....I guess unless you have a whole wad of cash..in this situation...you probably always will end up second best. If this winner wasn't a genuine fan ..it would be very dissapointing...I hope they don't try to make money out of it...scamming a charity and scamming genuine fans....hmmm... that's low :smth011....but I shouldn't make assumptions... It would be less dissapointing if perhaps the bidder/s were genuine fans from Aus... being average curefans ourselves we might have been in the same league as one another..and therefore in with a chance. It just puts a damper on everything...but I guess we must look on the bright side...we're going to the concert at least...I couldn't ask for too much more..(although it would be nice :P)..and 25 days to go!

I know most of us here already have tickets..here's your chance to win 2 more (to brisbane/sydney or melbourne) haha :)

Have just discovered that the Sydney people are lucky enough to get a "myspace secret show"! Apparently they post a bulletin a day before or something to advise of where and when, and first in best dressed policy applies. Shame they chose to do it in Sydney. I guess they just decided that the demand in Sydney for their time was greater! I suppose having 2 shows and then a 'secret show' is to cover their bases, so everyone gets a chance to see 'em. My complaint however is that I have paid alot of mney to see them, and some people are going to be lucky enough to see them for free! :smth011 Seems a tad unfair in some respects. I wish they would do a 'secret show' for each city! Lucky bastards that get to go. I bet it will be more intimate too! Ah, wish I could go to it.

The paid shows we're going to will be longer and much better, for sure.

Anyway, I'm here to report back on my scoping out of Rod Laver Arena.  I was there on Thursday and Friday night for Gwen Stefani.  On Thursday night, we waited for an hour after the show, on the bridge/walkway next to the cafe (to the right of the main doors when facing them from the outside).

There's the rail of the walkway, then a good 5+ metres of plants, then another big wire fence.  There was no way to get down there.  When she finally came out after an hour, she just waved and got in the car.  She couldn't have come up & signed things anyway, because of the stupid gardenbed & fences.  I can only assume that you'd need to be working on the show to get into the carpark down there.

I got Gwen's attention on Friday night by making a sign, and she took a photo with me during the show, but I didn't actually officially meet her.

So yeah, that's my news.  I'm sorry that it's not what you wanted to hear, but I think it's pretty damn difficult to meet after the shows.

HOWEVER...
Friends of mine were hanging around the arena early in the afternoon (3pm-ish) and got to have a quick conversation with her.  The BEST way to meet them, apparently, is at the airport.  So, if you've got the time and dedication, then that would be my advice.  You'd have to be prepared to wait around all day though...

Right well that sounds all rather depressing really. I'm going to have to think of another plan... I'll be buggered if I'm gonna wave at them through a fence and thats all! I'm determined to get a kiss on the cheek from Mr Smith! I'm not going to wait around at the airport either. Thats for other more dedicated people!!! I have an idea, but I'll have to wait until I actually get to the Arena before I know if it will work or not! I saw the post on the singapore bit about the setlist... some excellent stuff is in that line-up!! I'm so excited!!!! I have yet to check out the Perth and Adeliade bits to see if they have listed the setlist's there!...

Cheers very much to you SaraElise for your efforts in the reconnaissance side of things - very greatly appreciated! (And getting a photo with Gwen was pretty good too!)

Billee - I would imagine they will arrive at the Tullamarine domestic terminal on Sunday. As I'm guesing they will have loads of interviews to do with triple J and the like, whilst in Sydney. Thats my guess anyway!

I'm still keen to meet with some of you Cure-ies!! So in good faith I post my mobile number here for any of you lot to take down if you like. It's 0439 331 867. I arrive in Melbourne around 11am, and I will be heading straight for the hotel to book in... then I plan to head to Rod Laver Arena to check it out (re: my plan to get backstage). Depending on what I find there, I may have to stay and queue as I want to get close to the stage, so a sit in may be required!! If its not looking busy, I may head to a Pub somewhere! I'm not sure really! Anyway, You all are more than welcome to call me (I just hope I have the phone on is all!! I'm notoriuosly bad at answering it too!) and we can try and meet up! if it doesn't happen, it's not 'the end of the world'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, thats right your at gate 15 too aren't you!? Well grab my mobile number if you like, and give me a ring... maybe we could queue together... are you going it alone like me, or do you have mates going with you? I wish wish wish I had an ipod... would make the wait so much better! I will have my walk-a-man however (bloddy bulky thing that it is!) Just hope my bag can carry everything I need to take - camera, make-up, walk-a-man, jacket, pen for autographs, money and room to store the tour t-shirts and programme... etc etc... You know what? I'm blimmin' 33 years old, and this concert is making me feel like I'm a teenager again! I'm so excited!!! :-D

I have FOR SALE 2 tickets for MELBOURNE.
SECTION 19 - ROW L (both seats are next to each other).
If interested please email me, postage is probably out of the question as tomorrow is Friday, I'm happy to meet anyone at Rod Laver Arena to exhange the tickets.
Great seats, I'm getting rid of these 2 tickets as the ones I already have are just a little bit better.

Hey everyone,

I've been watching the boards for a while and now, a day before the show have decided to say hello. You guys are lovely!

I'm a 21 year old chick and this will be my first time seeing the band. I'm so excited I have to stop myself from screaming. Everyone at work is sick of hearing about the Cure concert (they seem to be the type of band people either love or hate) and last night I bounced around my house to 'Just Like Heaven', I was so happy and excited.

What an amazing band - their longevity is testament to that! The bunch of people I'm going to the concert with is truly a representation of how many generations and backgrounds the band has touched over the years. Myself, a lady in her 40's, another lady in her 30's, a guy in his 40's and a 15 year old.

Juan has already made contact with me for before or after concert drinks which would be great so I could meet you guys.

Wow guys, that show was incredible! Even though I was up in the bleachers I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the spectacle of a flawless performance by 4 very talented musicians. The lighting was amazing and Robert's voice was incredible. Much respect to them for playing nearly 4 whole hours. What pros.

The tracks that stand out in my mind;

Pictures Of You - One of my faves and just so hauntingly beautiful live. Sent shivers down my spine and tears to my eyes. The main blue lights with the white flickering lights were pretty so they really suited the song.

How Beautiful You Are - Ironically one of the songs I've been playing non stop since I recently bought the Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me album. Absolutely love it and was please to see it translated live, even without the keyboards. Did I hear correctly when Robert said he hadn't played the song in 20 years? Was this the surprise in the setlist

Fascination Street - Another one of my absolute faves - love that strong, thumping bassline and was pleased they could pull it off without keyboards.

The Walk - WOW! Never even considered this song to play live because it's dancy/techno but it was done fabulously. Amazing.

If Only Tonight We Could Sleep - Another favorite. Fantastic experiencing that Eastern sound live. Warm lights really suited the feel of the song.

The Blood - Really showcased Robert's talent as a guitarist.

Push - f*cking love this song. Great to hear that distint haunting riff ring out throughout the arena. Great live.

Expectedly, Without You, Just Like Heaven, Let's Go To Bed and Close To Me brought the house down. Great energy, everyone was dancing and smiling. Great to be a part of.

10:15 Saturday night - What a great choice for one of the last songs. Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip drip...

Worth every cent. Re-affirmed in my mind how talented and special the band is. Would do it again, and hopefully get a lot closer. The music is now embedded into me and the concert will stay with me forever.

Am I correct in thinking that someone managed to throw a curefans.com t-shirt on the stage? It was blue and Robert picked it up and put it behind an amp?

Oi all you mad Cure-ites! Sorry about taking so long to post after the event, but I have to confess to being completely DRAINED, and needing to recharge myself. I'm actually suffering a slight migraine, so be patient with me! (Billee knows my pain, as she's a sufferer, and I would like to tell you lot that she had to get jabs first before attending the show! HA! there was no way she was going to miss it, now thats dedication!!)

Right; first up I have to say G'DAY to you billee and kissingcrimson... my NEWEST mates! And my ONLY Cure mates!!! I have to say sorry to you both for piking out and leaving you guys there to queue in the cold. But I'll be honest and say that standing there in the cold wasn't really 'doing' much for me... and I could feel myself getting pissed off - and so as not to drag the mood down, I thought it best I left! I only wish now that I had've stayed put and just been with the pair of you! But alas, it's all over now! So with that apology outta the way!....
Kissing and I met up fairly early (around 1pmish) and we walked around Rod Laver to find a way backstage. We made our way 'into' the carpark that SaraElise (I think it was saraelise...?!) eluded to in her previous posts about the Arena. So we got damn close.. but naturally the security guard inside wouldn't let us go any further. We chatted to a sound guy and asked him to help - but no go I'm afraid. I wasn't really expecting to actually make it backstage but we tried!
We hung around the front for ages and billee showed up with her relations in tow - was nice to meet them - but as predicted on the day - I have forgotten their names!! (I'm crap on names!). After awhile I decided to go back to my hotel...
I was really trying to sleep and get 'revamped' as I was feeling drained even then. I hadn't slept well for at least 3 nights before I got on the flight over, and that morning I woke at 2am and so I was really running on empty! Not a good thing if you wanna be social and have a boogie! I managed to stuff in some pizza too at my hotel.. another good idea, as I also hadn't had breakfast or lunch (except that bag of chips and coke that my lovely fella Mick had tram'd over to me!!). So after I felt better and more energised I tram'd back over to Rod Laver, and got myself inside...
Now I felt ready!
My endorfines were working over time, and I called kissingcrimson and saw her positioned front and centre... I felt a twang of regret at that stage, as I couldn't get to her... It really wouldn't have been fair to stomp all over the other people sitting down, as they hadn't whimped out and gone back to their hotel rooms as I did! they had waited it out to get to the front! But don't feel sorry for me people...
LOL, I have ways of getting what I want!!
I chatted to billee too, and was pleased to hear that her 'drugs' had kicked in and she was feeling 100% better and could enjoy the show up in her seats... you should've called out to me when you saw me billee, not that I probably would've heard you!!!
(looking at the stage) I parked myself to the right and around the middle of the crowd, and had loads of room to 'boogie' in... but after a couple of songs I decided that that was shite, I needed to be CLOSER!!! So I wormed my way to the front... not an easy task I must say!!! Funnily enough most people let me do it! Which surprised me no end. Thye all frowned and madeit obvious they weren't happy about it!!! Only one woman actually said no and blocked my way, and she was on the rather plump size too, so I really couldn't get past her... But I changed direction and got past her anyway! hahahaha... she was NOT impressed! I should point out here I was EXTREMELY polite to everyone, and for me that can be a rare thing! So the long and the short of it is, I managed to get to the front about 5 people stood infront of me, and I was ever so slightly to the right of Robert!!! I yelled out for kissingcrimson at one point, but I guess you never heard me! Also I tapped people's shoulders in front of me to try and find you... but no matter where I looked, nothing! I knew you were there somewhere, and thats the main thing!
I had an absolute ball... and after the people around me just excepted I wasn't pushing in any further and was staying put, the atmosphere got better around me! I got some excellent pictures (even if I do say so myself!!) and am in the process of downloading them.. as I'm in a rural area and have no broadband access, this will take a while. I'll inform you all when I've done it and where to go etc... meanwhile check my profile pic on here as it will change soon to one shot I got! (when it's bloody downloaded!).
I danced my butt of, and was sadden to see that there were only a few other 'die-hrads' like myself that knew all the songs... one bloke next to me looked as though he was going to fall asleep! One girl actually started to get annoyed at the lack of audience participation and voiced it rather loud at any moment she got! Good on ya love!!
I pogo'd to Primary, and landed on some poor blokes foot behind me, I apologised yet again! Cure fans are so nice! At any other gig, I most likely would've been punched in the face to be quite frank! But then I go to alot of punk gigs etc.. so perhapes it has something to do with that?!
I mentioned to kissing. that I would most likely 'tear-up' at some point during the gig, and yep.. true to form, I did have a cry! There's something about EOTDGS that just turns on my water works! I then had to worry about my make-up running! Being a woman sucks sometimes!! If Only We Could Sleep also produced some salty wetness! And Push too now I come to think of it...
I got so hot and sweaty and felt so old, as my pogoing really took it outta me... I'm really not fit enough to be doing that stuff anymore! But at least I wasn't farting! Someone near me had a 'wind' problem and as I'm super sensitive to things like that... I found that a tad unpleaseant!
Basically I was in my own little heaven, I felt so close to the stage that it seemed so intimate... I was grinning so damned much that my face was sore the next morning... I've no idea if Mr Smith noticed me at all, but I'm pretty sure that Mr Gallup did, as one of my pictures, he's looking straight at me, and I believe he smiled at me too at one point!! But then, he could've been looking at anyone, and it's just wishful thinking on my part!! Mr gallup was very good at standing to the crowd, for photo op's! I noticed too that Mr Thompson was in 'the zone' for several songs and was playing with his eyes closed... so wonderful! I'm not sure if Jason could see anyone from behind his drums, but I like to think he could see me doing the drum hits in the air... I was basically right in his line of sight... and luckily I didn't have any really tall people around me, so with the bright lights and all - it is possible they could see us in the crowd...
After it was all over, I didn't hang around to be honest, I would've liked to meet up with billee, kissing. and others. But the last tram was leaving at 11.45ish, and I had to get a cure ticket back (they took them off of us and gave us orange wristbands for the GA area), get my cloak room things and make it to the tram stop.. so I decided it best to just get the hell outta there... I didn't actually sleep until 1.30amish, then it was back up at 5.30am to begin the trip home to Tassie!
Basically, after all these years, they still put on a show to be remembered. This is the third time for me now, and I hope not the last. We shall see!!!I just need to figure out where to put my photos now!!!
Oh and sorry it was such a long post!! Please forgive any grammer/spelling errors...

I'm a bit late on this (i only registered Tue) but I have to say Sunday night completely renewed my love of the Cure. I only really bought tickets as my wife is a recent'ish convert. I had seen them on "Bloodflowers" at the same venue and thought after 20 odd years following them it would be my last time with them. They failed to inspire me then, BUT Sunday was awesome. I cannot even begin to explain how good it is to see Porl back again, he is such a fantastic player and adds so much to the live sound. I don't usually have time for "Close to Me" but on Sunday it was a highlight, Porl added some amazing jazzy guitar breaks that gave the song so much more swing. I'd love to hear it again (any recordings?) The band played all my favourites i had an awesome seat (front row bottom tier behind the mixing desk.) I'm totally envious of all you stateside. I hope they do keep the keyboards out or to a minimum (Robert triggered some keyboard loop during Close to Me) as it makes for a much rawer Cure than has been seen for years. Shall be in the UK in April and have my fingers crossed....

I was opposite Porl, and about even with the first set of stairs down to the floor.  I could see pretty well. (Kinda where this was filmed from.  I think one of those might actually be my head! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBeOo1JPQME)
It was a shame being on my own though.  I was going nuts, mostly in the second encore.  What was with most of the people in the seats sitting down?  I was glad to be on the floor so I could dance.

Oi you lot... I had to ask the people at the Rod Laver gig about the music played before tape(intro) began. I reckon that the music played as sort of background music (while the blokes on stage farted about doing their stuff) is perhapes from the new album? I had an inkling as I reckon it sounds heaps like that song on the Join The Dots box set called Possession. And if that is the 'new' sound for the next LP, I like it!!! Anyone else agree?

It would've been nice for you to know I was there and would also have provided proof to the people around me that I really did have a mate that close to the stage!! As that's what I was telling people when I was worming my way closer to the stage... it may have stopped the filthy looks I was getting (hehehe) Never mind though hey! Did you get to 'boogie' much being on the barrier? I had plently of room after I pogo'd to Primary! LOL, I think the folks around me thought I was a lunatic, and gave me a wider berth!!! I was listening to the Melbourne gig last night & have to say that Close To Me (a song which I find pretty crappy (except the HOTD version)) is a revalation.
Good guitar break to replace all that dodgy brass sound.
Was that Bob or Porl?

yeah it was great,  but you know I can't seem to recall which one it was... I would love to see the whole thing back in Video, just to recall.. i was on Porl's side, but I tell you what, Robert was amazing on guitar.. the whole gig,  he only put it down I think twice, so maybe it was Robert??

Think it was Porl from memory. But not absolutely sure, he was doing also the keyboard on guitar, almost definate was Porl.
I have to hear it again, to remember more, i can see some from memory- if i hear it again, i will remember. Thank you for the recording, which section is 'close to me' in?

I know he didnt use guitar in WCIBY, and alot of songs he played some parts and sang others, with guitar strapped by his side.
He did play alot, but Porl really did an awsum job aswell- really amazed by that.  Get my headphones on, and do some listening... Unsure now..sorry, but i will remember !!  :smth023

umm sorry for indecision~ really think is Porl on second and third thoughts yep.

I agree scatcat. A wonderful night. Wonderful memories. I think we all have our fingers and toes crossed that it won't be " forever " until we get another opportunity to see them again.

love this idea!! kissingcrimson  :smth023  if only the impossible could happen..  :!:

I totally agree billee.. why not keep going? We have missed out on soo many tours here..   ;)

The Cure is definately busy with tour scheduele, and remixing of old and the relaese of the new album.. but maybe a re-visit to Australian shores would re-establish fanbase here.. a long time coming.

WE need The Cure here..   I'm sure it will be sold out to max if they chose to perform the new album here. We got what we already knew...  You guys in Mexico and rest of the world got unheard of singles... Come on The Cure.. bring it to our shores..!! we will give you good times!!

Yes, I know what you're talking about. Too pitty that happiness is always just short  moments... but moments you can't never forget!

Hope you ladies have the chance to see them again (sure you will!). And now is our turn :D

Its now a year since that fantastic show at the Rod Laver Arena and the Cure were totally brilliant. I'm, now begging that they come out again and show all the new material and everything else they've got.Dont forget us guys.  Melbourne audiences are lively and very grateful for the effort the boys  put in to their work.  They'll sell out within hours as always because Melbourne loves The cure. So come on down we're great hosts.  Fellow Aussies spread the word so that Robert and the boys know-we want the them back!!!  The new CD is brilliant bring it on guys- we're waiting with baited breath.Love to the band and thank you to the site organisers. The site was recommended to me and I like what I see.  Thank you very much you have brightened mydat/week/year etc.Thank you all.

Best wishes Mscurefan

with prayers.. I suppose it all depends on the reception /ticket sales so far this year, after the relaease of the new album.. did anyone but it , other than me?  :smth011

it would only serve us to but the album, and AT LEAST have some interst in THE BAND.. OUR BAND.. THE CURE.. for them to tour here..
