QuoteCURÆTION-25
Part of Robert Smith's Meltdown
Curator Robert Smith closes the 25th Meltdown festival with an exclusive two-hour show at Royal Festival Hall.

He is joined onstage by four of his curious friends – and other, imaginary accompanists – to perform special interpretations based on a very particular selection of songs he has sung throughout the years.

QuoteRobert Smith curates the UK's longest-running artist-curated music festival in its 25th year. Tickets for the next wave of shows go on sale to Southbank Centre Members on Friday 13 April and on sale to the general public on Monday 16 April.

Smith is the lead singer and principal songwriter of The Cure, and its only constant member since the group formed in 1978.

One of popular music's defining bands, The Cure took the 'alternative rock' genre mainstream around the world and garnered numerous awards including a Brit Award for Best British Band, an MTV Icon Award, a Q Inspiration Award and NME's Godlike Genius Award. Smith has also been presented with an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement.

Ticket's on sale this Friday!

Apparently tickets go on sale for South Bank Center members (membership costs 60 GBP) this Friday. I will definitely try to get tickets for this gig. This seems way more interesting than the 40th Anniversary show!

Don't get your hopes up too high!
It's pretty logical that it might be musicians who'll be there for "Meltdown" anyway... (thus, Trent is an option, of course)!
Good thing about the internet is: we'll be able to read the reports during or shortly after the show! (Back in the 90's I had to wait for weeks/months to read about things in music papers, if at all...)

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but if Robert was just  going to perform with other artists (a la Bowie's 50th birthday concert) why would he specifically say "curious" friends?

"Four curious friends?" Matthieu Hartley, Perry Bamonte, Boris Williams & Pearl Thompson?

"and other imaginary accompanists?" The first thing that came to mind was Lol and Michael Dempsey - at least for one song to celebrate the original line up.

Maybe a Cult Hero reunion?

That means actually Simon, Jason, Roger and Reeves - my limited view after 24 hours.

Lol is very likely.

Not sure about Perry, although I'd love to see him up there and he sure as heck deserves it.  I wouldn't even give odds on Lol, I think he'll be there, no question about it.  A little less certain about Pearl, but I think he's very likely to be there too.  Andy Anderson as well.  Lol and Andy have been real non-committal about it when asked, but that's only natural.  I can't think of anyone who would be 'out of the question, not gonna be there'.

I don't think so. He said in the interview that he "trapped" himself somehow, because Hyde Park was announced as "the only Cure show", so when "Meltdown" came along, it became clear that he'll have to do "something different" than a "normal" Cure show.
We'll have to wait and see. I myself do guess it will be "friends" of Robert from other bands, especially those who play at Meltdown. (E.g. someone from Mogwai...)

word_on_a_wing

I feel he is saying that the expected 4 will join him on stage (ie Simon, Jason, Roger, Reeves) but it will be a very different show than a typical Cure show, with several guests joining them, unusual arrangements of songs, and some song of RS playing solo.  Because it will be so different this means Hyde Park can still validly be referred to as the only UK concert by The Cure this year.
...I'm sure it will be awesome whatever form it ends up being!
