Yes this practice is generally frowned upon.

But look at Detroit 2000, a fan brought in a sign for Figurehead, Robert saw it, which lead to a trio of Pornography songs.

Or Crowbiwan's story of "M" and the 17 seconds encore at Everett 2004.

Given the ahem... lackluster fixed sets that most of the older school fans are seeing and thus yawning for obvious reasons (let's face it Berlin and Munich setlists weren't anywhere like in the past) so I fear for you Roman and Parisian people....

Any chance some of you cure fans are going to bring some signs should you get by the front to request the dark songs that need to be played, so they get back in rotation? At least do it for the tapers in attendance...

Believe it or not, this may actually have some merit.  When I met the band before the show in Camden, NJ in 2004, I asked Robert to play Faith when I came out to see them in Carson.  He looked down, then up and said that it was on the "maybe" list for Camden.  Sure enough they played it that night.  I'll keep telling myself that I had something to do with that one!!

Yep, signage does work.  Or at least the one I held up did.   :-D   Maybe I'll give that another try this year.  Well, that will probably have to wait until the U.S. tour.  As much as I'd like to get up as close as I was in Everett, standing in line all day in Paris just doesn't sound like a lot of fun.  And Antwerp won't work due to my seat.  That is unless Robert has a telescope

i had been thinking of bringing a sign to wien show, saying OTHER VOICES.
i really should have done that since they now did play it in zürich yesterday... ggrrrr!
besides, wien was small enough venue so i was thinking i'd have some more or less reasonable possibilities to get the sign really noticed. no such hope in paris i suppose, like brian said...

A request to those bringing signs to the shows.  Please don't hold them up during songs.  This isn't Wrestlmania    In fact, the best time to hold them up is after the mainset is over and Robert is giving his thanks.  That way he can actually take to to look at them and the request will be fresh in his mind for the encore selections.  One thing to note is that Robert has poor vision, so don't think he'll notice you if you hold a sign from back by the mixing desk.  Same goes for all you shouting out songs.  They have speakers behind them and monitors in front of them.  Do you really think shouting for A Forest will be heard by anyone other than those around you.  And those around you might just be taping...

A suggestion was made by Ernest to try holding up the signs around wrong number.

Let's just stick with "4 SONG FAITH ENCORE"

and/or "FOREVER" or "A FOREST/FOREVER".

Stick with what the band has rehearsed, played since 2005, and can do as a 4 piece.

too long. someone with poor vision and only a few seconds time anyway won't grasp it.

Depends where you are and where Robert is.  If you are on the barrier and robert is standing at the front of the stage between the monitors, and its between a song, then he will hear you.  It's also unlikely that you'll have someone trying to tape that close to the front.
f*ck Parental Advisory.  Mines a Pint.

In Vienna I asked one of the roadies to hand over a note to Robert where I asked them to play Last Dance but they didn't play it =P

This is prolly way way off topic, but what about those of us who don't shout song requests but like to sing along with the music?  I know when I go to concerts I like to have a good time and enjoy myself and sing along.  Now knowing that someone by me could be taping makes me uneasy and scared to have a good time.  Hell, I'm sure none of you would want to hear me singing "Open" off key with Robert!

Being next to a taper or not, I think it's pretty rude when people are singing during a show. After all, people paid to hear The Cure, not some other people.

It's fine if people come to have a good time, but shouldn't being able to hear your favorite band be enough? Why impose (usually off-key) singing on your poor neighbors? (who are probably to polite to say anything to you)

I guess you got a point.  But most concerts are so loud I can't hear myself think.

The idea of a sign requesting Faith did cross my mind for Milan -- very very briefly though, I've never brought a sign to a concert, it's irritating for those behind you. Besides, they know we want to hear it!

Similar experience!

At the after-after party at a club in san fran.
It was like 330 and everyone was getting kicked out of the place.
So we waited by the bus to harrass him for photos.

After he was done with the fans, as he was walking onto the stairs of bus...

"ROBERT CAN YOU PLAY FAITH TOMMOROW NIGHT!!?!?"

He stops, turns around.
With one of his huge smiles, and his eyes light up like a child,
he says "Absolutley!" and walks onto the bus.

He played in Sacramento the next night,
not that we really had anything to do with his choice to play it,
but it was still f*cking magical!
