Così The Cure, ovvero Robert Smith (voce e chitarra), Simon Gallup (basso), Jason Cooper (batteria) e Roger O'Donnell (tastiere) per il 2012 hanno deciso di tornare "live" con un set di quasi tre ore di musica.
La scaletta prevede canzoni tratte dai 14 album di inediti della loro carriera, incluse quelle che fanno parte del loro epico lavoro "Wish", del quale quest'anno ricorre il ventennale.
La miscela "esclusiva" dei Cure è fatta di indimenticabili canzoni dall'atmosfera umorale e stralunata che ha aperto la strada a una nuova era nella musica popolare contemporanea e li identificò, fin da subito, come predestinati alla grandezza assoluta. le nuove generazioni seguono ancora oggi il suono inconfondibile dei Cure e ne fanno la colonna sonora della propria vita".

rock in roma is a festival, i think now it's ten years , played in a horse racing ground called capannelle just about 7 km from rome, about 3 km from ciampino airport. i live in the town of ciampino, so i could go there walking!
each night there is only one gig on the main stage, and other little gigs on stages after the end of the main. of course there are restaurants and bars.
1 km from the venue there is a railway station that links with termini, the central station in rome, in about 10 minutes.
today i'll buy my ticket...

wow, that's great to know! There's a flight from Bratislava (where I am living) to Rome Ciampino Airport with RyanAir, so I might be going to this one! Actually, all RyanAir flights to Roma go to this airport, so I am sure it will be convenient for those who live outside Italy :smth023

yes ciampino is the "ryan air" airport...
then there is a bus to ciampino railway station , not more than 10 min and then only 5 min train to capannelle, for a little charge of 2 euro :-D in ciampino there are 3 or 4 good hotels, the prices are about 60 euro for a double room.
of course i could give my help for infos or anything needed. i'll go by car, it's easier, so if anyone needs can go with me ;)
about the venue, usually the stage is located perpendicular in that piece of ground between the main stand of Ippodromo and the race ground, to form a sort of arena, so people can go on the stand, i think it's about 1000 people, or stay in front of the stage on the grass! at peter gabriel show in 2007 there were 7-8000 people but the venue was full for 2/3. acustic is usually very good.

yesterday i was coming back home in my car and passed in front of the ippodromo...i pass there almost every day. so i took the distance between capannelle and ciampino airport km 3,200!!!

I'm going to this show my my girlfriend, we have booked flights (5th-10th of July) and are coming from the UK, as we couldn't stomach the idea of heading to Reading or Leeds haha.
We have the gig tickets and flights booked, just hoping to get some advice on Hotels. We are looking to stay in Ciampino due to the close proximity of the gig, just wondering if anyone wouldn't mind sharing their views on any reasonable hotels in that area. It's going to be our first time in Rome so any advice about the gig/the area or Rome in general would be appreciated :D

hey actually i live in ciampino but can't have a meeting at home because my wife is on a wheelchair and it would be difficult. anyway there are a couple of good pubs in town, we could meet there, as three of you are at ciampinohotel. i know this hotel because two friends went there for new years day, it's a good hotel and has a swimmingpool. it's about 3 km from capannelle and 2 from home.
it's no need to say that i can take you at hotel and go to the venue.

sorry, the last train from ciampino to roma termini is at 23.30, then another at 00.30 to roma tiburtina.
last local bus to metro station is about 21.00 and the last regional bus is at 23.47. from capannelle there is the night bus N26 to piazza colli albani then N1 to termini station. taxis are at ciampino station or airport but i know they are expensive, never took but i think not less than 20-25 euro :smth011
during day trains are every 15 min from and to Roma. from roma every train running to Frascati, Albano, velletri and frosinone stop in ciampino.
from ciampino every train goes to roma. and at anagnina bus station there are buses to ciampino too, a couple every hour.
but at night is very difficult.

Bad news for Rome...Rock in Rome confirmed only 2h and 30 min of Concert 21.30 to 24.00...otherwisw in Milan Robert said that as every summer festival minimum 3 hours!!..if the organization allows..but in Rome it seems to be impossible :twisted:....They have to end at 24.00 for unknown reasons. Rumors for Rome monday july 9 only 2h 30 hours of Cure playing.
For agreements with the municipality or other institutions in Rome I DON'T KNOW The Cure should play only 2 hours and thirty .. because the closing is set for 24 at that time must end all, too soon .....!!
The organizers of rock in rome then say if they want to play the canonical 3 hours can start to play before 21.30, I hope so!!
only 2h 30 ... is very little .., view the average duration of 3 hours of your concerts .., please at least 3 hours in rome!

if they are not allowed to play after midnight then the only solution is too start the gig earlier, so at 21h00. anyway, often Robert does not care about timings, so maybe he will play 3 hours even with the municipality's restriction. we will see tomorrow :smth023

Just back home from a long long trip from Italy (wonderful country and kind people).

ps. I am considering going to see The Cure in St. Polten (Austria). This could be an interesting gig because it will be the first show they play after a pause of one month (the show is scheduled for August 18 and the show before is in July 20). So for those who are thinking of going, you may fly with RyanAir to Bratislava (Slovakia) and then you can take a train to St. Polten. And of course, you can spend a day in Bratislava and enjoy the great and cheap beer here ;)
