You look like you have two back to back, you gonna have to jump on a flight to Vienna on the day of the gig?

With the smaller club gigs, I often decide on the day whether I'll do the drive or not.

Currently I'm planning on seeing Dirtmusic in early November, TV Smith in December.

"Hands Off Gretel" tonite, very "generic" punk/grunge kind of band, but I want to see them because the first time I tried the singer had no voice and I hope they will make up for this. Also, the bassist is really good (and good-looking too)...

Hooray, there's a gig coming to our small town we can go to!  It's Chicago Blues, should be really interesting.  The last things we went to were Sharon Shannon (Irish accordionist - superb!) and Portico - a jazz outfit - but that was a couple of years back now, and we've decided to come out of hiding and make an effort to see gigs again.

Apart from that, this year we did get out to watch Mary Poppins and Glass at the cinema, and a local production of Beauty & The Beast which was really well put together.  Brett's just seen Joker and was raving about how good it was.  That's all very well, but looking forward to an actual gig now! :)

Speaking of female bassists - I remember watching Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads on a concert film once and her hair just went flip-flop in time with the playing.  That was rather cute! :)

Appended in post-script:  A really interesting 8-minute clip on Ms Weymouth playing bass!

I once saw BB King in an actual live gig and vividly remember his bassist.  He had an enormous Afro and was bouncing his head off his shoulders while playing - left shoulder, right shoulder, left shoulder, right shoulder etc etc etc.  I couldn't believe what he was doing and how he was not getting seasick.  It was mesmerising - it was like he had a rubber neck, and the voluminous Afro made the whole motion look extra elastic.  Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce!  All the while with a huge and very white smile on his face.  Have never seen anything like it before or since!  :)

Many years ago, it struck me that there are quite many female bassists out there... Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth (vocals and guitar too, I guess); Kim Deal (Pixies etc.); Adele Pickvance (Go-Betweens); Gail Ann Dorsey (Bowie etc.); Melissa Auf der Maur; Patricia Morrison ... and many more...

Anyway, Becky played very well last night, rocking those basslines (and backing vox) and shaking her hair too.  :happy
