For me,

I would like to recommend Faith. Just because I can see the originality of The Cure in this song. More over I, myself can obviously see the difference of The Cure with other bands through this song.

The lyrics, bass line, rhythms, and of course with distinctive voice of Robert Smith made the song as the masterpiece from the rest. (IMO)   :smth023

I'd reccomend two songs. One to show the happy side and one to show the dark side. Most likeley from me, High/Mint Car and Primary/Disintegration

But if you want them to really like The Cure, do Inbetween Days.

It's funny, My Dad runs the basketball league, and we play music for timeouts and warmups, and I have a few Cure Songs there. From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea, Primary, Friday I'm In Love (For Friday Night Games), and A Letter To Elise. However, everybody loves InBetween Days when it comes on.

I think if i played Faith to any of my friends they would run away.

When i got my sister to like The Cure she liked Lullaby beacuse its poppy yet a little dark. Then Songs like FTEOTDGS, Charlotte Sometimes and A Forest.

Hi dear! Very interesting this thread!!!!! :D
I don't know, it's difficult...cure's music has many different aspects and people should "discover" everyone of them. :)
I think A FOREST would be ok...and then JUST LIKE HEAVEN, FASCINATION STREET, FAITH and some good b-sides, too! ;)

Bye bye, Sussex! :smth006

Bye2 Dalila!

Yeah I thought it is hard too, to choose the song to introduce to them. After all I think its about 'feeling'. To understand The Cure is no just to listen to their song. You need to dig more. Do you all agree?

You can't really choose just one song. The Cure have so many styles, that you have to give a little sample of each.

Well since none of my friends share my love for gothy goodness, I'd play one of their more approachable rock songs like "GIVE ME IT" (which convinced a friend that the band was cool), "PRIMARY" (Which convinced another that The Cure had a more upbeat side), or various others on that track.

If the friend is a softer person, or a girl, I play for them the love songs that you hear overplayed on the radio (I.E. "Friday I'm In Love" or "Lovesong") but usually I state my blatant distaste for them because I don't feel they express the band for what they are.

If I want the band to look tough, I play songs from "PORNOGRAPHY" and "FAITH" and "THE TOP", being that I refuse to listen to anything past 1990 and those happen to be my favorites!!!

Usually, people don't know what to think. Either they view them too seriously and think, "What the hell is this?" or they view it all as a joke and think, "What the hell IS this?"

All in all, I need to find some Cure-loving friends or else I will isolate myself from the world, Cure items at hand. And that ain't healthy!

I did this once. :-D It is to secure their attention quickly since they are 'Radio friendly' type of person. If such songs being introduce I think they will accept The Cure easily, but somehow when they finally see The Cure by their own eyes..I bet they will getting confuse to see Robert's eyeliner, Porl's new appearance and etc to  match with such type of songs. lol!

They better know The Cure history at first stage rather than to listen to their Radio Friendly songs if they really wanna know what The Cure is all about :-D

People tend to only think of what The Cure are today. They never even think twice about hearing their earlier stuff, so they get one of two impressions: The Cure is a wimpy light and fluffy band with way too much makeup (and I have no problem with that, some folks do though) or they think The Cure is some devilish emo band (I wanted to punch their lights out, the person who said this about my band!!! just kidding)

I say, why not hear some Seventeen Seconds or Boys Don't Cry first before judging them. Hear some Head On The Door or Disentigration. Then you come and tell me that "The Cure is THIS or THAT"...The Cure is everything! Not just one genre!

Judging a band for only their big hit is a bad decision. If I had judged Devo for their big hit "WHIP IT" and never heard any of their older stuff, I'd probably never think twice about listening to them...

I think Just Like Heaven for their beautiful side and Charlotte Sometimes for their mysterious dark side.

If you don't like those songs then you probably won't enjoy anything else The Cure do.

I read in an interview that Robert was asked the same question of which two songs would he think best represents The Cure.

He said:
Friday I'm In Love and Disintegration.

Really? Which interview tigermilk? It looks like Robert also tend to put two different genre of songs. One for the beautiful side and another one for the dark or gloomy side of the band! Nice one! :smth023
