Hi,

I need a bit of help.  I have a copy of the 7" , Jumping Someone else's Train.  I have seen on www.thecurerecords.com.  That there exists two different UK versions. One in a picture sleeve with a fiction label that is solid (official release) and one not in a picture sleeve with a Fiction label that is dotted.

Here is the difficulty.  I have a record with the dotted fiction label, but it is in a picture sleeve.  Can anyone help me understand the real difference between these records.  I'm not sure how reliable thecurereocrds.com is (sorry).  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

sorry if i didn't quite understand but what do mean by "dotted"?
do you mean you have the red polydor label (with a large hole in the middle) or it's the silver/black fiction label (with normal small hole in the middle of the label)?
also what's the serial number on your vinyl? and do you have the inscription "two into three is less than one" carved on the A side run off groove?

Sorry for being vague.

By dotted I mean, the Fiction ensignia/symbol/ name is filled in with dotted ratherthan being a solid black.

The hole is the small one - silver or bluish silver label

The inscription is there on the A side/ strawberry is on the b-side

s.n. = 1vest

ok i see now. i never noticed this difference before but it's surely visible on www.curerecords.com label scans.

well i have the same "dotted" fiction inscription for sure too. of course i didn't buy mine personally in 1979 but got it second hand, but i never thought i had any reason to doubt it's origin.

here's a scan from butler's 'cure on record' book, with the cover and the UK label: and if you zoom in it's dotted... (but is it the picture sleeve label or not? with the way butler's book is arranged one can't always be sure, unfortunately!)
anyway it's the same with the french discography book (by raymond/moreau): the only label pictured has a dotted inscription.

so maybe some of the labels for the picture sleeve copies are simply different?

Thanks, japanesebaby.  Very helpful.

no problem.  :smth001
anyway sorry i can't give you any more exact answer than i did.
but maybe someone else can check his/her copy too and we'd have more copies for comparison?

anyway, i do give you credit for really looking the label carefully, for noticing this little difference in detail! i really stopped collecting official stuff somewhat long ago so i've gone a bit rusty in this respect... all the "sherlock holmes" work involved in comparing the serial numbers and inscription etc. ;P

(about www.curerecords.com in general: i don't know who's the person behind running that site but i've considered it very helpful and accurate many times, and also heard good things about it from others.)
