Dont know about dimeadozen.org.......Have seen it, but sorry dont know..... Lostflower4 or Tof must know ?...
But one thing for sure you know more about this than I do, thats for sure, I mostly buy itunes. And physically share with friends.,I've never even been on limewire, but my brother goes mad on it.

 Semi-off topic
~ But i have the best 'bootleg'?  LP,  The Cure "Final Romance",  I will add a more detailed description later, But its a 2 show compelation, Live recording From Hefford ? germany, got all the info, but not at hand.(so maybe i got the spelling wrong of Hefford...?)

Anyway early 1980, only know of one other person with this LP- exactly the same as mine.,

Mine is golden colour see-threw LP, and play list is:
Grinding Halt, - Plastic passion - Midnight in the tableway (misprint perhaps,= subway song)
-Killing an arab, - Boys dont cry, - Unknown, - Happy Birthday (simons birthday, Robert wishes him happy birthday, etc), -A forest,
-10:15 Sat night, - Play for today,  - Do you wanna (gary glitter cover)

"Made in United States
All rights reversed, Produced by Metropol"/b]

I have heard so many varied stories of this recording, bootleg tapes, but mine is a beautiful looking LP...?
and i have only ever played it once, so still has an old smell to it, inside its plastic cover., and i dont really care if it is a bootleg
or not, Just still one of my favourite LP's :smth020

Have seen this kind of description in many forums and specially dimeadozen.org. What does it means?

it's a common term for commercial silver boots that have been "liberated" from the hands of bootlegging companies: that means they are being traded/shared further as non-silver copies, thus on either audio cd-r or in flac etc. when a boot is "liberated" it means that the community of both collectors and fans alike are being able to enjoy a boot without having to pay to the bootlegging company - which had no copyrights for the material anyway.

What is a "liberated" bootleg?
A liberated bootleg is a commerical bootleg that has been copied. Copying a commerical bootleg is NOT the same as copying an official cd. A commercial bootleg is a bootleg that has been mass produced onto silver cds by small, illegal record companies. Commercial bootlegs are illegal, as selling them is the same as selling normal bootlegs. However, many people collect them (bootlegs such as "Nirvana: Suicide Solution" are very popular amongst collectors). If a commercial bootleg is copied and traded, it is known as "liberated". This is not illegal, because the material is still uncopyrighted and so is legal to trade. Paying for a commerical bootleg is not the same as paying for standard bootleg. A commercial bootleg is the original, comes on a silver cd (rather than a cdr) and comes complete with artwork. Original commercial bootlegs can only be bought (or traded for another commerical boot), whereas normal boots can be traded for, and so there is no need to buy them. However, it is worth researching a certain bootleg before buying one, because they often contain recordings that can be found in better quality through trading. For Nirvana commerical bootlegs, all you need is the Digital Nirvana Bootography. This will save you buying a coaster.

a quote from the text above:

this is a very good point actually. many versions found on commercial silver cds are often not at all the best versions available. many of these are actually very crappy versions or crappy copies of some good version. very often it's possible to find a lot better version or a lot better copy of the same version that is on the boot (transferred from a better gen source for instance!).
so that's yet another good reason not to pay for boots...

Argentina 1987 comes to my mind. I have the "original bootleg" and the sound really sucks!

So actually the "Out of mind" bootleg I puted on dimeadozen.org a couple of days ago, it's an example of a "liberated bootleg"?

So I should have labelled the show as "Out of mind - liberated bootleg"? Is this a basic rule?

no i don't think there's any rule for that. it is just one way of expression, that's all.
so you can also just as well say something like

Lineage: silver CD ('out of this world') > HD >flac

and everyone will know that this stands for the very same thing. so i think what you said there was quite ok.
because after all, the only important thing is to write out the lineage info as clearly and understadably as you can, but there's no rule what expressions you have to use/prefer.

that's another reason why commercial boots are rarely very interetsing/worth the money. because they are often incomplete gigs because the shows had to be edited/truncated to fit on one cd. just think of all the incomplete soundboards from santa barbara '87 - that's so annoying. besides, the song order is often changed so that the shows are not only truncated but also completely messed up.
add this to the fact that many commercial boots sourced from audience recordings are often sourced from low quality copies of those audience sources - commercial boots are rarely worth the money.

besides, commercial boots are often insanely overpriced. i recently visited an international record fair here. there were several sellers from germany and sweden who had lots of boots (both cds and dvds) up on their stalls. some were selling only boots(!). everything was greatly overpriced (like 20-30 euros/dvd or cd). out of curiosity i browsed through their cure collection and literally everything there was something that you can grab from torrents/trade from other fans for free very very easily. there was nothing interesting in there, yet they asked 30 euros per dvd(!) for stuff like "big bright beautiful day" compilation, lyon 2004 or west palm beach 2004 (which is even unwatchable because it's out of synch!). i might find it somehow interetsing if there were some uncirculated private videos among all that but it was all just tv sourced, common stuff.
of course, i understand that some people still do collect original commercial silvers. but my personal opinion is that it's pretty pointless and a waste of money. you'd be only giving money to the bootleggers' pocket. just handing money for free to someone randomly picked from the street is just as good (or even better) idea imo.

I only own one 'bootleg' and up until recently i was convinced it was ligitimate, being sound quality so good, i have had it for 15ish yrs, and its an LP- but back then the collectors shop told me it was a rare cure LP,.
My bother used to buy bootleg tapes, 20ish years ago, and even then they were extremely crappy.
I think i just got lucky with this LP, how ever it was made, or what ever its story, I have heard so many versions, That it is a radio show- Its not, It is live,. Just a bit of a mystery, I also looked up the company 'Metropol' USA- no longer exsists, well not on the web,.

But anyways, I definately like to buy the Real thing, and support the band, For sure, They give their heart and soul, least i can do.  :smth023

I really wish they re-released 'Live in Orange' or some DVD's of pre-released stuff before the tour.  But i will wait, and still got my videos, and the video player is still holding on by a thred...

just to avoid possible misunderstandings(?): i wasn't saying all boots are crappy. just the commercial ones tend to be poor. and stuff that you can buy if generally either crappy or something that everyone has anyway. but if you're really into finding good quality shows, trading uncommercial boots is the way, not buying those commercial ones.
