I recently went on a Amazon singles-buying spree, including the Wrong Number promo, the American WMS singles, High, and Cut Here. This has got me thinking about remixes. So I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to our favorites.

Some of my favorite 'proper' remixes:

01. Friday I'm in Love [Strangelove Mix]
02. Fascination Street [Extended Mix]
03. Out of this World [Oakenfold Mix]
04. High [Higher Mix]
05. Doing the Unstuck [Extended Mix]
06. Lovesong [Extended Mix]
07. The Walk [Everything Mix]
08. Never Enough [Big Mix]
09. Close to Me [Closest Mix]
10. Cut Here [Missing Mix]
11. The 13th [Two Chord Cool Mix]
12. Wrong Number [Analogue Exchange Mix]

Some of my favorite single/radio mixes:

01. Just Like Heaven [Clearmountain Mix]
02. How Beautiful You Are... [Clearmountain Mix]
03. Mint Car [Buskers Mix]
04. The End of the World [RS Mix]
05. This is a Lie [Ambient Mix]
06. Lovesong [Single Mix]

Some of my favorite edits:

01. Wrong Number [Radio Edit]
02. Maybe Someday [Radio Edit]
03. Pictures of You [Radio Edit]
04. alt.end [Single Edit]
05. A Letter to Elise [Single Edit]

What are yours?
Another Curefan for The Dark Christmas album.

One remix that comes to mind is one that you can't buy:  Wrong Number (Crossed Line - Warm Vocal Remix).

This is different than the "Crossed Line" mix found on the CD single. I think it was available as a download from the official site at one time.

It has an awesome ambient-electronica groove to it. My favorite mix of this song.  :smth020

Well, of all the mixes/remixes I know, the 'Higher mix' of 'High' is probably the best one in terms of adding something really relevant to the song that actually makes it better.

The Tim Palmer mix of 'This is a lie', included in 'Join the Dots' is really well done and possibly is a bit better than the original, but it's not by a great margin. Essentially, two good versions of a song that is slightly different from "normal" Cure ballads but also seems just a little contrived.

I also like the Mixed Up version/mix of 'Close to Me', it adds something to the original but the thing here is that it doesn't really improve on it.

As for the extended mixes that used to open the 12" versions of Cure singles, they are generally cool but far from essential, I think.

I'm also recalling some alternative versions that I don't think actually count as mixes/remixes but that are better than the standard versions of the respective songs. The Wish era is fertile in this...

Even if the standard version of 'A Letter to Elise' is very good, the acoustic version as played on MTV (included in the 'Play Out' video), toy piano and all, is even better.

The standard version of 'The Big Hand' (B-side) sounds also very good, but the instrumental version was made available earlier (it plays on the final credits of the 'Picture Show' video) is even more magical.

The standard versions of 'Wendy time' and 'Cut', on the Wish album, are both annoying in different degrees, but the more restrained live versions that were made available previously on the 'Play Out' video are actually good.

Some of my favorite 'proper' remixes:

01. A letter to elise [Extented Remix= not the "Blue" Mix]
02. High [Higher Mix]
03. A japanese dream [Extented Mix]
04. Just one kiss [Extented Mix]
05. Doing the Unstuck [Extended Mix]
06. Fascination Street [Extended Mix]
07. A Forest [tree mix]
06. Close to Me [Closer Mix]
07. Lullaby [Extented Remix]
08. Killing an arab [Speedy jay 1998 rmx] (bootleg)
09. Fire in Cairo [Egyptian remix] (bootleg)
10. The last day of summer [Extented remix] (bootleg)

I don't care that much about the single/radio mixes, as I hardly hear any difference to the album versions (except for Close to me).

Nice stuff Bloodflower. A lot of this material is 89-onwards, so perhaps and with a little bit of luck they will include some of them on the deluxe editions? We can only hope.

KingOfSomeIsland

Since I made my top 5 the other day Ive been listening to the remixes alot more and I changed my mind:

1. Pictures of You (12" Single Mix)
2. Close to Me (Closer Mix)
3. Wrong Number (Analogue Exchange Mix)
4. Friday I'm In Love (Strangelove Mix)
5. Lovesong (Extended Mix)

Well, I wouldn't say I think it's better, but...I love it. The toy piano: :rocker I said I loved it on another forum by the way, and a couple of people bashed me for it, aaaww...

Anyhow, I'm not a big fan of remixes, so I've avoided most of the ones mentioned...I used to like Pictures of You [12" Single Mix] better than the original, but the long intro has grown on me, and now the mixed version sounds too...flashy? I prefer when Robert's voice isn't drowned by the instruments during the bridge like it is in the original though.

Close to Me [Closer Mix] was one of the first Cure songs I ever heard, and I still can't decide whether I like it more than the original. Alright alright, they're both great...for different moods.

The toy piano is just the extra-touch that makes it irresistible.  :smth001

In fact, that whole MTV show, with Robert's lyric mistakes and all (actually, the footage from the rehearsals for that show is hilarious in this respect  :-D ), is great. It's TOTALLY CURE and yet different from all other things they've done. They should have given it a proper release, including a CD issue with all the songs performed then.

Lostflowerboy

If only they'd release it finally. The Nick Drake Cover they propably played, would make my day.

othervoices

Call me an old bore (which I am), but I favour the 12" version of Primary. None of that modern remix stuff  :(, just a plain old extended version.  :smth023

Of the more recent stuff (well, only 18 year old...) never enough big mix is good and  the close to me (closer mix) works well.

More Than This (Mysterious Remix)

Did You know that some call it the vocal demo of Wrong Number?
Weird.
Also love it, listened to this yesterday.
