When people are full of sh*t
« on: October 05, 2005, 20:41:14 »
This isn't really news, but I thought you'd all find this interesting... My friend, let's call him Eric, just stopped by to visit. I know he really likes The Cure, but he doesn't keep up on stuff like most of us do. The day after the Benicassim show I gave him a CD of the Le Mouv broadcast. I didn't tell him what it was at the time, just that he needed to hear it.

So when Eric comes by today, he says, "I can't stop listening to that CD! You know, my friend was at that show." Eric is known for his tall tales, and we live in the US, so I curiously replied, "Oh yeah, do you even know where it was from?" After a long pause, he uttered "Well... It was somewhere overseas. Wasn't it Japan?" I said, "Nope, try Spain." He was like, "Well, my friend must have been confusing it with something else. He saw them in Japan recently." I quickly noted, "The Cure hasn't played in Japan since 1984." Eric shot back, "Nuh-uh," as if he had some special knowledge.

"They played there 6 months ago," he assured me. I was like "No way man, I really keep up on this kind of stuff." But there was no changing his story. He then went on to tell me how it was a special private concert, only for people of the "fan club" who have been members for 4 years. At this point I'm just grinning ear to ear knowing I'm being fed the biggest heap of crap ever...  :-D

I don't need to say anything at this point; Eric's doing all the talking. He continued, "My friend almost didn't make it to the concert in time. He was running late, so he hopped the "express jet" to Japan and made it in 2 hours (from the United States)!!!

I can't help but continue to grin bigger and bigger. I'm loving this. Apparently American citizens weren't allowed to go to this concert, but Eric's friend got an exception for some reason. And this guy said the announcer lady on the French Benicassim broadcast sounded just like the girl that was next to him at the "Japan show". So this all made perfect sense to him in his delusional world.

The rest of the details have escaped me, but I think that about sums it up. What more can I say? :smt009

Reminds me of those peruvian "music press" fanzines,
over the years i have colllected lots of local music magazines and fanzines. Well there are a lot of fake interviews!! i am ashamed of, because i used to believe they were real, and i sent them to some friends of mine in Europe!! Well there are two cases with this female journalist, from a local radio station, she claims she interviewed robert smith in brazil in 1987 and in 1996,  later i found out she copied an obscure fanzine from brazil! abnd another well known magazine from brazil too. word after word, letter by letter...

there is also a videojockey from a local tv station, who claims he went to argentina in 1987 to see the cure at the ferrocarril stadium, but whenever i read his review of this concert which almost ended  in a tragedy, i read the opposite, for this writer the show was perfect, with lots of new songs from the "new album", and the happy crowd that made him felt in the paradise!!! :x   :x

btw if you go to a PERUVIAN second hand record store and you try to buy some rare cure material?? PLEASE DONT BUY THE RARE BOOTLEG THE CURE IN COLOMBIA!!!! :?

I swear your friend is a contractor that used to work in our group.  This guy had a story for everything from having a defibrillator in the trunk of his car (that he has had to use twice) to knowing a guy that has had 7 vasectomies.....and has 6 kids.

It has gotten to the point that no one in our group can tell any kind of true story without someone referring to this guy!  This guy was the king of BS.......

No, that one's real. I just saw it today at my local record shop. It's from their little-known secret tour in 1988. It was right next to the Live in Japan 2005 video. They wanted $400 for it. It was no problem for me, because I just won the lottery yesterday.

They've also got a couple copies of the Taormina '05 official release DVD, but right now it's only available here in Iowa. I can get anyone a copy if they're interested. Just send me some cash in the mail.

ha ha, i met a girl like this earlier this year, id just bought the 'pornography' re-release and she came up to me saying that she was a fan of the cure, so she took the cd off me, looked on the back and started saying that shed only heard of 'break' (the home demo), temptation(demo), and a short term effect. i asked her if she knew ones like 'boys dont cry' and 'in-between days' but she didnt, lol. what more can i say..................  why lie about such small things?

I've got one of them express jets at the back of my house.. Gets me from the UK to Australia in an hour and a half.. Its great.. :)

By the way Caley, my little bro lives in Japan (just outside Osaka City).. I'm sure he would have told me if The Cure were passing by.. Or perhaps he kept it from me.. Why the little.....

Or perhaps the pictures he sent me the other week from the parade at Universal Studios were just the support act...   :smt011

I haven't received the cash yet. It probably got lost in the mail. Maybe you should try sending it again.

If I don't receive payment by the end of the month, I have no choice but to leave you negative feedback.
