Sorry for off-topic, this is turning into the history channel here!

For me, it is George W. Bush jr. who'll be remembered as the "war-monger". His dad wasn't the perfect US president, but much better than his offspring!!

...I really don’t think it can rightly be attributed to him.

Yes, he was president and yes, it can't be attributed only to him, but he was an important factor, as West Germany still had lots of US troops stationed here and the U.S.A. were the most important and powerful partner in the NATO.

Of course Mr Gorbatchov and many others were heavily involved too! Our country needed the support of these "partners" to be able to erase the "iron curtain".

...my understanding is that there was growing frustration in East Germany, and it got to the point where people were pushing for freedom, it was gonna happen no matter what, it wouldn’t be tolerated any longer.

That's right, something had to be done. The government of East Germany decided to allow "free travelling" (i.e. opening the borders and thus "destroying the wall"). This however did not lead automatically to a "unification" of the 2 states, this was the result of long negotiations with Gorbatchov, Bush & Co.
(Maggie T. was against it, Bush & co. somehow managed to persuade her.)

But, we may not forget, on June 17th 1953 Russian tanks put an end to a similar thing:

A smilar thing happened in Prague in 1968.

...I know what u mean. My Scottish parents are not fans of Ms Thatcher.  By shutting down the ship building on the Clyde so many people lost their jobs, and in many families (including mine) it led to families needing to leave their homeland to find jobs elsewhere.

Absolutely WOAW. She didn’t care what she was doing and it’s the same with May, so many families are struggling now and with no where to turn to. It’s awful. Big Jezza finally brought up the UN rapporteurs findings in parliament and she just point blank refused to acknowledge it.

Sorry dsanchez for off-topic, could we re-title this thread to "the history channel, wedding vows and general small talk topic, which used to be the "currently watching (documentaries)" topic"? Thank you.

Haha aye, a take yer chat elsewhere is coming.

Yeah your undecided nature is suitable for a manga script, you know, when the character is talking inwards and it all contradicts itself?   :D

At this rate, to match you, she should be. Mandatory almost. You need to interview both her personalities before she makes the cut   :angel/
