I have heard that David M Allen (Producer of Head on the door, Kissmekissmekissme, Disintegration and Wish) is now producing debut album for this band: www.thecellophaneflowers.co.uk
Sounds cool. Martin

He has also been mixing/producing the following bands recently:

Hello guys,

We've just got this message on info@curefans.com:

Thanks so much posting the album teaser promo#1 in.

It's very much appreciated. Under the video it says that Dave can't be seen in the vid though. However, he CAN be seen (briefly) in this second video here, mixing our album on his beautiful handmade desk that had previously belonged to the late Conny Plank of Kraftwerk fame etc. Dave bought most of the contents of Conny's studio; has much of the eqipment set up in his studio in north London. Dave also mixed our last album, Gravity Calling; in my experience of working with him I have found him an extremely creative, generous; motivated sort of chap who has many great stories to tell & an encyclopedic general knowledge. He's a very decent sort of a gent; I'm glad to see people are genuinely interested in what he's up to! Anyway, here's the link:

Dave appears at about 9 seconds in, hard at work in front of the Conny Plank desk!

Thanks.

All the best, Jesse / Flipron

Hey, very cool to hear from the band themselves.  :)

Thanks, I'd hoped to see him in the first one, but the text underneath (if you watch at youtube) told all the names and Dave wasn't among them.

I like Flipron (sounds like "strange" brit pop to my ears), will buy the new album!

Looks like very old recordings by David M Allen will see the light of day. Sounds like he was predicting some 80's synth pop sounds here! (Obviously he didn't get a record deal, but an offer to work as an engineer...)

Just like he did in the old days, Dave Allen produced the latest album of The Mission.

Now let's hope he will one day be asked to produce The Cure again :!:

The production on SoM 'First & Last & Always' has been called 'iffy' by Eldritch; I would go a bit further and say 'completely fucked-up'.  I've never heard any truly fine production work by Mr. Allen.  Doesn't mean I don't have respect for the guy.
'And the........festivities?'

Any reasons why?  :?
I haven't listened to this in 20+ years. Probably because I don't like Sisters anymore (which has to do with the fact that SoM haven't released anything new in 20 years and also because Andrew talked a lot of crap about ex-members etc. in interviews...). Back then, it didn't sound "bad" to me production-wise in any ways.
However, I got to say the follow-up "Floodland" (1987) sounds totally "dated" in terms of production nowadays. (Not produced by D. Allen, but by Eldritch himself, I think?)

Not wanting to sound dis-respectful either, but: are you deaf?   ;)

To my (completely ruined) ears The Cure albums between 1985 and 1992 sound better than most others (especially the relatively weakly-produced WMS and 4:13!)...

Also I just got the new The Mission album produced by Dave Allen and it sounds GREAT!  :)

That and getting rid of Jason Cooper would be a rebirth for The Cure.

New interview with Dave Allen:
http://monolithcocktail.com/2015/03/18/our-daily-bread-152-the-david-m-allen-interview/

QuoteYou were the producer of The Cure's 'purple patch' of albums throughout the mid-eighties. Do you think they should have packed it in after Wish in 1992, when many claimed they lost their edge?

No. I admire them for the tenacity and stamina to keep creating and playing shows that give their fans great pleasure. What's wrong with that?

QuoteThe producer of The Cure's purple patch David M Allen has shipped Connie Plank's fabled desk - famed for its warmth, character, and having recorded Kraftwerk's 'Autobahn' -wholesale to Studio 7 in Tottenham Hale.
