there's no indication that the cd (normal) or deluxe edition will have a download code:

Quote from: Ulrich on October 24, 2024, 09:36:23However, in this case, I'm not gonna order it. I want to go out and buy it in a shop, like I did with most Cure albums since 1985!

In my case, I will be on holiday in the first three weeks of November, so I won't listen SOALW until at least the 24th November and of course I will do it properly: Sitting on my couch and playing the vinyl from start to end, and of course I will "play it loud" :)

QuoteWe recorded a lot of songs in 2019 and, then through COVID, I kind of got distracted and started working on some solo stuff. We started touring to get back into the groove and that ran through to pretty much the end of last year. And I suddenly thought, "Well, I'd probably better get something finished."

I think the mistake I made was I was trying to get 30 songs all finished together, so they all somehow hung together. And I realized at the start of this year that that really wasn't going to happen. So I reduced it down to 20, and then I reduced it down 10, and then I finally emerged with eight that I thought worked together best. But I have left behind quite a few of my favorite songs, weirdly enough.

I wanted this album — the first one from those sessions — to be kind of a statement. It's shorter than most Cure albums have been since we were releasing stuff on vinyl in the '80s — it comes in under 50 minutes. There's no real light — there's a little bit of light to throw the shade into relief. But it's pretty much exactly how I wanted it. So I'm very happy that it's done. But I am at a slight loss as to how it's taken 16 years to get here. The short answer is: I have no idea.

Love the album! Managed to get a copy of the Marble and Black vinyl versions at a local record store and played them yesterday at friend's house and after listening it already more than three times, this is how I like the songs so far. What about you?

1. Endsong
2. Alone
3. Drone:Nodrone
4. Warsong
5. All I Ever Am
6. A Fragile Thing
7. ICNSG
8. ANIF

I will need more listens to tell anything...
Also I will wait for the 4 sad songs Robert said he kept for the next album. ;)

Just read this on a FB page about Cure:

QuoteYou know it's a great album when everyone has a different idea about what the best song is.

By the way love All I Ever Am, but don't like this bass with distortion effect. I think the song would have been nicer without distortion.

Hi all ...it's been a while.
How great there's a new album!

I intentionally didn't listen to any of these new songs prior to the album being released, dodging the live versions over the last year or so. I wanted to hear the songs within the entirety of the album + good audio (rather than a phone recording).
Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience with the album so far...

To be honest, I was apprehensive at first.  It's actually been some time since I listened to The Cure.  I've been listening to a lot of Max Richter, and his new album is beautiful.  My favourite song recently is 'Movement, Before All Flowers' (not that you asked!)  ... anyway, it felt like I'd need to really switch gears to get in the right space to listen to The Cure again.  Even after the album dropped I had a solid day of apprehension about it.  Anyway, I then dived in...

I started by watching the interview, and really appreciated hearing about each of the songs and their meanings. Robert's openness in this interview was lovely.  I then listened to the album with quality headphones.  I liked it, but something didn't quite click for me.  It was when I then watched the live performance that the album made sense to me. (..and how amazing that they played the album in entireity and streamed it!!). I've switched back and forth listening to the album version, the live version, then album etc (...many times now).  It feels like an album that is meant to be played live.  I also feel like I'm hearing and appreciating what every member is contributing (and i feel this is more apparent when it's played live). All I Ever Am is a good example, as the album version is very good but the live version was something else.  When hearing it live it helped me understand the album much more.  ...I am kinda hoping it was created with the intention to be played live ...in which case I hope they consider coming to Australia.

Anyway, back on track... favourite songs so far? I initially found Drone-NoDrone enjoyable (for some reason it reminds me of Babble or Out of Mind). However the song that has made the biggest impact is I Can Never Say Goodbye. Robert's guitar, on the background of the other musical textures...chills.  It feels like a track that could comfortably be on Disintegration in my opinion. I'm also loving Endsong, although the live version could do with slightly lowering the volume of Reeve's guitar (my brain almost exploded at the end).  His guitar on the album is much more palliatable to my poor brain.
Also, love the lyrics on All I Ever Am, and Endsong.  I love when Robert's lyrics contemplate about reality. i.e that perhaps what seems real and preoccupying is instead an elaborate shadow on the curtain, then pulling the curtain back ...ahhh, yes now I remember...infinite nothingness...or perhaps I'm reading into that too much / projecting my own hopes about what is being referred to.

...anyway, i'll shut up now.  I hope you all are well, and am interested to hear what songs resonate with others.
Also, I'd be interested in how you found the album version compared to the recent live version.
