I watched this one. Never been a big fan of the Birthday Party (musically), although I'm certain they were an intense live band. Interesting to watch a documentary about them!

May 2025:

John Mckay, the first studio guitarist of the band, will release his first solo album Sixes And Sevens on vinyl, CD and digital, on 8 May 2025, through his official website.

John McKay created a groundbreaking guitar sound in November 1977 at the band' first John Peel session on the beeb. His style was melodic and dissonant, jagged with fuzz (distortion). No one had heard a guitar style like that before. John McKay had an immediate impact on newcomers and then later guitarists. He was cited as an influence by Geordie Walker of Killing Joke, Steve Albini, Thurston Moore, Jim Reid of the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine.

This year, in May, he releases a collection of eleven unheard songs recorded  in studio between 1982 and 1986, sung by himself or his wife. Some were recorded with Banshee drummer Kenny Morris. Some were taped with mancunian musican Graham Dowdall  (who also played live with Nico).
Sixes and Sevens contains 11 tracks. The lead single "Flare" is out.

What the Trump administration is now proposing is not only an affront for the Ukrainians but also for the Europeans. However, I would welcome it if Mr. Zelenskyy actually faces re-election this year. The country is de facto a member of NATO and the EU! However, if Ukraine is supposed to cede areas to Russia permanently, it must receive something in return. My modest opinion ...

I've listened to some old stuff I used to listen to circa 20 years ago (Interpol, Editors...)!

Thanks for the info. Bloody F*ceb**k has a habit of not showing me the important updates (even though I do follow Sharon's FB page)!  :1f636:

Sharon Van Etten has released a new album, as part of 'Sharon Van Etten and The Attachment Theory'.  I find it always takes me some time to really digest her music, so will give it more time. My first impression is favourable, with the exception of the song Indio which is not my style and feels out of place for the album, and her catalogue more generally imo. I don't want to judge though, as others may love that track, it may just not be for me.

In honour of beautiful Shazza I'm revisiting my favourite tracks, which always captivate me...

Also, she is a big fan of The Cure! In November she posted a video in which she was wearing SOALW shirt, and in something recently posted she referred to her love of The Cure, saying how she initially fell in love with Wish and then discovered more of their atmospheric stuff.
