Sharon Van Etten has released a new album, as part of 'Sharon Van Etten and The Attachment Theory'.  I find it always takes me some time to really digest her music, so will give it more time. My first impression is favourable, with the exception of the song Indio which is not my style and feels out of place for the album, and her catalogue more generally imo. I don't want to judge though, as others may love that track, it may just not be for me.

In honour of beautiful Shazza I'm revisiting my favourite tracks, which always captivate me...

Also, she is a big fan of The Cure! In November she posted a video in which she was wearing SOALW shirt, and in something recently posted she referred to her love of The Cure, saying how she initially fell in love with Wish and then discovered more of their atmospheric stuff.

Aimed at someone outside the forum.

Quote from: T*mir*Twhat does somebody being gay have to do with Gemini?

Be unscathed. One has nothing to do with the other, i.e. the domestic situation and then the fact that someone prefers to conduct a double life. Excellent reading.  :smth023

This should be an interesting read, I will get this when it's out:

https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/budgie-siouxsie-the-banshees-announces-memoirs-the-absence/

QuoteAs part of Big In Japan, The Slits, Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Creatures, Budgie (born Peter Clarke) was one of the stand-out drummers of the post-punk era. His forthcoming memoir, The Absence, tells the story of Budgie's life from a childhood in working class St Helens overshadowed by the death of his mother, to early musical adventures in social club bands, before the escape to art school in Liverpool at the moment it became one of the most fertile music scenes in the UK. The Absence, which will be published on 5 June and can be pre-ordered here charts his playing on The Slits' Cut to the life-changing moment when he was asked to join Siouxsie & The Banshees, where he became both writing partner and lover of Siouxsie Sioux, not just in that band, but the innovative side project The Creatures.

QuoteIn 2009 he toured with Juno Reactor, joined Efterklang for their 2012 worldwide tour, recorded drums for John Grant's album Grey Tickles, Black Pressure in 2015, and more.

Most recently, Clarke has been working with The Cure's Lol Tolhurst and Irish music producer Jacknife Lee. They released the album Los Angeles in 2023, featuring U2's The Edge, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, and Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock.

Clarke and Tolhurst have continued working together, touring the US last year.

The Absence: The Memoirs of a Banshee Drummer is set to release this June, published by White Rabbit.

Inspired by bridge construction work nearby (commissioned by the DB), I have a suggestion regarding the Hanover - Berlin route, which was like my "second living room" for about twenty years. It concerns the H - n stop. Only regional trains stop there. The high-speed line runs parallel. Since it is due to be renovated by 2030, I would like to suggest moving this stop 500m to the east. There is already an underpass for pedestrians/cyclists on the north-south axis and a building from the 1930s that, I suspect, was once owned by the German Reichsbahn. Long story short, the current stop is no longer up to date, especially for pedestrians who still have relatives in the village. I have nothing against "old masonry" - quite the opposite, but an architect should take a closer look at this section.  :neutral-face

Fake

I can't ever come back, if I never go
I don't ever explain, if I never know
I won't ever take it, if I never give
And if I never live, if I never live, if I never live

A bit late to the party perhaps, but anyway - I'm just having a go at the SOALW instrumental disc, which I was a little skeptical about. But it's definitely worth a listen, and it achieved something really suprising: it took me back to my (long gone) teenage years, when I first discovered The Cure.

All those memories... and hopes and dreams, most of which are truly gone.

Band members and their solo projects / Re: Andy Anderson interview

Maybe interesting for Andy Anderson fans, he played drums on this album (released in 1985) by Jeffrey Lee Pierce (from The Gun Club).
As far as I know, the "band" who recorded this album did not play live together.

To find the right access to SOALW mentally, I first listened to Tim's Listening Party from December 8, 2024. At the time of November 1st, I felt strongly distracted. It was as if several people approach me at once. I had to step back more than one step. Thanks to YT, I listened to this show and have to say that the music was not allowed to be played for legal reasons (excluding radio listeners) is not a loss. These almost sixty minutes are a real asset. Really recommended.

Thanks, RS and Tim!  :)
