Somewhere in Mallorca... no joke.

QuoteGermans out

It's getting ridiculous. What haven't they done to curb cheap, boozy tourism! I've never been to Mallorca. I haven't had a beach holiday in 25 years. I spent the money on more "useful" things. Nobody stopped me. These crowds bother me too. How are you supposed to relax there? Stop blaming tourists for everything bad. That's just as unfair.  :unamused:

Ok, so today I found some time and sat down to properly listen to the 3 cds of MOALW. Here is my assessment:
CD 1: there are interesting tracks, like Paul Oakenfold remix of I can never say goodbye and Daniela Avery's version of Drone: No drone, some others which are quite unventful and banale like Daybreakers remix of Warsong, and one which frankly is offensive - All I ever am by Meera: wtf is this? Orbital's version of Endsong is really creative and one of the highlights of this preliminary cd, but the reat treat in this part definitely is Ame's take on A fragile thing, truly inspirational!
CD 2: the weakest of the collection, with the exception of Cosmodelica's remix of And nothing is forever - mildly interesting, nothing more - my advice is to skip this and go directly to Disc 3.
CD 3: here's where things get interesting. Despite only two of the artists explicitly define their tracks as "reworks", the whole set in part 3 is made up of wonderfully conceived and truly original reworkings on The Cure's songs. Craven Faults' I can never say goodbye is a rare gem, where the original transmutes into something completely different (Robert's voice is not even there, but who cares: this is a work of art in its own right). Joycut's and Trentemoller's deconstructive strategy towards Drone and Nothing is forever respectively are fascinating, as is Chino Moreno's bare rendering of Warsong. The best comes last, and the final reworks are the most memorable, especially Mogwai's heartbreaking take on Endsong. Some might find this anathema, but personally I prefer 65daysofstatic's version of All I ever am to The Cure's! Anyway, CD 3 is worth the price of the whole cd, but pruning cd 2 altogether (and part of CD 1 too) would have been so much better.

Something else / The denim thread
Last post by MeltingMan - July 06, 2025, 12:46:08
For about 20 years, I wore jeans made exclusively in Germany. During the pandemic, the manufacturer even wrote to customers. They were obviously struggling. I had no intention of switching brands until last year, when I was looking for one in a specific color. It took a while to find one, but the price seemed too high. I then looked elsewhere and stumbled upon this one brand that everyone knows and even offers certain models at a lower price. At first, I was skeptical, but then I couldn't stop myself. In nine months, I've put together a small collection, including trousers in various washes and jackets. It was also necessary because my body was changing. I could no longer wear those narrow tapered models.

I'm even wearing blue jeans again now, something I hadn't done for a while due to work. The internet was a huge help in keeping track of the different models and production batches. :smth023

Yesterday night I saw Anna Von Hausswolff in concert, it was her first gig ever in my country. It was a cathartic experience for me and I'm really glad about it!!

Prolonging the war...

QuoteThe strikes came hours after a call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, after which Trump said he was "disappointed" that Putin was not ready to end the war against Ukraine.

Noting that it came directly after Putin's call with Trump, Zelensky added in a post on Telegram: "Russia once again demonstrates that it does not intend to end the war".

He called on international allies - particularly the US - to increase pressure on Moscow and impose greater sanctions.
