i just got an e-mail from schecter about robert's signature acoustc, the RS-1000. i didn't even know about this. did anyone? here's a link to check it out. http://www.schecterguitars.com/spec.asp?id=145 it's very much like his electric, having the same pearl inlay. this one i like and probably will purchase. the electric is just so oddly shaped. i think it's kind of funny that he's got a signature acoustic for two reasons. one, he used to think they were a "hippy instrument". the other, he used his electric for the acoustic songs last summer! maybe he'll be going back to the acoustic now. :smt017 anyway, the ad says the price of this new ax is $699. i'm guessing it'll acually go for $399-500.

i had no clue about this, a nice surprise though.
what comes to instruments then how it sounds is surely much more important than how it might look like, but the electric one is really odd shaped. after all those elegant hollow-bodied gibsons it just always looks a bit ugly to me, i cannot help it.
in a bit more rare interview from an UK in store magazine called SoundControlMagazine dating from 2004 robert is talking about the designing of his own schecter model and he says:
"someone did make a guitar for me in the 80s but it wasn't quite right. i designed and drew it all out, but i was doing so many things i could never check it. it went from paper for the real thing and when i sat down to play it, it was horribly unbalanced.so i said to michael [schecter]: 'if you make it exactly how i want it, then i'll do it'. he said: 'whatever you want to do, we'll do.'"
hmm, so that old one must have been really unbalanced then if even he himself noticed it... well ok, yes of course i know he wasn't talking about how it looked like.
anyway, i wonder what those previous signature designing plans back in the 80s were, i've never heard of them from anywhere else than here. it must have been a deserted project pretty early on then(?).
marika
Not a bad looking guitar. I've always preferred black acoustics, and they're not always so easy to find! But upon closer inspection I see there are no electronics on this. So we're surely not going to see Robert playing this exact model in a live setting unless it's some sort of "unplugged" thing.
I'm really not a fan of Robert switching over to Schechter (which is known to be a heavy metal/hardcore/industrial brand). Just like Marika said, he had so many classic (and expensive!) vintage guitars which he never appears with anymore. Even the Fender Bass VI has been replaced with a Schechter. And I definitely don't see any improvement in sound with this. I just wonder what convinced him to do ot. I can't imagine it being the money... I wouldn't be surprised if he's contractually prohibited from using any of his old guitars on stage anymore. And by the same token I wouldn't be surprised if he still uses his old guitars in the studio.
Weird...
there are ways to amplify an acoustic guitar. several companies make pickups that mount in the opening. i'm not so sure robert will be doing this, though. as far as using his many wonderful guitars in the studio, i believe he does. with the ultracure you can get a variety of sounds. still, it doesn't sound like a hollowbody. for the self-titled album, he packed all his old gear into the studio (guitars, amps, fx) at the request of rr. robert is so big on getting the right tones that he'll be doing it again. i didn't think robert used the hellcat VI :smt017 perry did. i think robert has always used his fender. wait, maybe on conan o'brien it was used....

Yes, I'm well aware of pickups and everything. But chances are that a person wouldn't randomly choose the same pickup that Robert does. So it's not a very authentic model unless he's using this for studio-only work where a close mic system is used.
Robert certainly used some sort of Schechter baritone guitar during the 2005 shows. Lullaby, for example. And just listen to Jumping Someone Else's Train during the Szeged soundcheck. Some low notes in those chords!

really??? i don't know. i suppose it's possible. guess i'll have to listen again. the fender bass VI always seems to be his weapon of choice. i tried to get a good look at his guitar rack in everett and believe i saw two of them. kinda hard to tell.

2004 was a very different Cure. I know he played the Fender during those shows. But he didn't play anything but Schechters in 2005, I'm sure of it.
okay, i checked out some pics from '05 and see no fenders and only schecters. however, no hellcat VI, at least that i saw. if you look at the ultra w/ the 696 sticker, it appears to have been modified with hellcat hardware. i'm not certain of this. and as i don't have any vids from last tour i can't check to see what songs that guitar was used on.
here's a pic. notice the three pickups and the toggle switces. this is clearly a modified ultra. i just don't know if it's modified to be a bassVI or to just have single coil pickups. if it's a bass VI, the neck should be longer, which it doesn't appear to be. :smt017

Maybe he's just trying to get a different sound... Imagine if you had to play Just Like Heaven or 100 Years 4 million times, there certainly would come a time when you'd want to do something a little different. But I agree with the fact that Robert has a wealth of beautiful, vintage guitars which are criminally underused. Hopefully when they tour again (if they tour again), we'll see him break out the arsenal.
Robert had the opportunity to "build" a guitar for a company... may be it is the project aspect that interested him. have a guitar with his name and sound...(2 now).
And Robert seems to be ok with the commercial aspect too ;)
Crowbie_wan: Brian, did you end up getting this guitar? Just interested to hear feed back on the RS-1000 acoustic? :smth023

has anyone tried out this ax?
no, sorry, not got my hands on one yet, looks cool :rocker
Nope, I never bought one or even played one. I don't play my acoustic much and haven't found the need to buy a new one. Still, I'd like to play one sometime, just to see how they sound and feel.
thanks CureCrusader and crowbi_wan.. I'm hoping to get this guitar + I'll find out soon and let you know! :smth023

There's a discussion with pics about halfway down the page. Hard to tell from the pic if the neck scale is longer to my eyes, but I'm no expert.

well, I love the acoustic one, although I know he plays the Ultracure.. the RS-1000 is totally unavailable here downunder, so I finally found the one I want, in the US.. hopefully get it before xmas.. fingers crossed!! :smth023
Wow! I love this one, too! Unfortunately, I do not play but was trying desperately to talk my hubby into getting it! He plays but is perfectly happy with his current acoustic. Pity!
I just think it's sweet being a black acoustic and I really love the inlays. Way cool!! :smth045
Scatcat... you'll have to let us know if you hook up with this one. ;)
:rocker
Okay!! word in: the RS-1000.... gorgeous! It is warm in the right places.. ;)
beautiful sounding!! I love it!!! :smth023 mmmmmm...puurrrr :smth007
:smth035 :smth041 :smth040
Hey scatcat!! Shame you weren't in Adelaide...there was a gathering of 1,300 people, all with guitars..trying to beat the Guiness book of Records..for playing the riff of "Smoke on the Water" all together!!Didn't quite break the record (1,700) but it sounded wicked!! Could see you there, with your new guitar.. 8)
here it is... I'll try and upload pics:
I want one..... a beautiful new guitar, ahh been awhile :smth007 That is really so stunning  Scatcat, meow ahh the vibration
I imagine how good it feels to play it.
Ohh thats nice :smth055 ~this pic (above) is your new guitar you mentioned a few days ago ?
Did you find RS-1000 in Australia ?
Unfortunately no, I had to get it from the US... but now, after my enquiries here,, Billy Hydes are going to import them... retail price $1,1900.00!! It takes 8 weeks to get them here... lucky I didn't pay that much :smth023
I can't stop looking at it, just to check if it is really mine!! :rocker

Yes very very nice, WOW :smth060 Me very jealous in a nice way :-D Thats beautiful ahhh :smth023 is it silver the top half, (down the sides?) and the inlay just gorgeous, i would be sleeping with it in my arms,
just to wake up and sigh, ahh then i would say "YES"!! to myself. :smth023
hhhhhmmmmmm.. I have called him 'Robert' or.. 'Bob' ( because we are sooo intimate now....) The 'other' guitar here is called 'Simon'... they tolerate each other's presence.. and really do like one another, but get jealous if more attention is paid to one over the other!! :-D 'Simon' is sexy in his own right, but I can't stop touching 'Bob'..... :smth053
here's your guitar: 'Bob' is it?
Woah! RAD! :smth023
I like the head part of it...nice sleek design!
Is it really named after him? That's cute! :)

ummm..CV... it's what scatcat calls her guitar..."Bob"... I doubt if Robert named a guitar after himself that it would be "Bob"!!!! :-D
scatcat :smth023 - looks really nice, hopefully it sounds as good (haven't heard the Schecter acoustics myself so far).
on a sidenote (unrelated to the RS-1000), have never found an answer anyhwere but always wondered, which guitar (brand+model) is it that Robert used for example in 1990 during the festivals ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYycb-p4LKU can be seen here on 10.15 but he did lots of songs on that one - was his main guitar), that one had a nice overall sound...

funny melly ;) scatcat's RS-1000 is called ' Bob' , she named it that, of course. she caresses it daily
The guitar she called 'Simon' is a red ( how spooky=red hair) basic acoustic.
we often play together, she is really not an accomplished player., ( I can say this because she is not around for a few weeks ;)
The RS-1000 is really a fine acoustic.
Plus the fact that it looks so hot. Sounds so fine.
It was great seeing Robert playing this particular guitar in the recent concerts:
I showed her the pictures and she was in a buzzzzz
@closedown, I'm sorry but i don't know much about the guitar you have asked about during the 1990 gigs, but no doubt,
someone will pop in with either a link or further info for you.
i do know that curefan master has a link, knowledge and a website for you if you hang in there.
bye for now. :smth035
:D Oh, I was confused. That's what you get staying up until 2:00 in the morning! ;) lol

yup, definetely looks way better with this guitar + from the snippets I heard sounds better as well.
@CureCrusader - no problem, any help is appreciated - have asked 3 former guitarplayers so far + they haven't had a clue... that guitar had a really nice sound (and besides that the look was ace as well...)
yeah, @closedown, Schecter is great to play.
in regards to other guitars used during concerts, try the search function, I recall seeing a list of guitars used in all performances, or maybe it was on the net?
anyway, as soon as the mods get back, I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction, say, crowbi_wan , boneheadhaggar, or lostflower4.. :smth023

well, not too much of a fan of the Schecter electric guitars, the acoustic sounds nice though - the VI String obviously can't reach the Fender one but that would almost be impossible anyway...
I know of certain equipment lists (and have contributed to one or the other on the synth equipment, I am more a specialist of synths+drummachines...) - but they couldn't help me much either, most of the stuff is taken from interviews with Guitar magazine (and I think Soundcheck) + and those articles I am aware of are from 1992/96/2000. So I'll wait + hope someone can help sooner or later :smth023

@CureCrusader: top one - hadn't seen that listening before! so, mystery solved - it is a (I think slightly modified) Val-Pro 88, surprises me a bit, that it is a 60es guitar though...
oh, and for all those fans of Robert Smith custon build guitars - have a look at this... http://www.dubreuille-guitar.com/robertsmith.html
