What do you think about it ?
I think Robert wanted to make a surprise with opening Saint Malo show with it ... but the total guitar formula don't seem adapted to Disintegration album'songs except Disintegration itself. So a tape is not a solution ... And why Porl has forgotten he is a keyoards player too ? I think The Cure needs keyboards and the sound is often poorer without them.
i really liked it, to be the first time, they play it without keyboards, it still captures the same feeling when it was played during the prayer tour! i dont know if i am the only one who thinks like that, i am saying this after watching the video with some friends in a big screen and it catched everbody's attention!!

I think there are various reasons behind people's opinions of this "Guitar Cure". I think I am so accepting of it because I am a guitar player myself.
I'm very influenced by heavy metal and hard rock guitar styles, so this all comes as a pleasant surprise to me. I know a lot of Cure fans aren't into this kind of music, so I can see how some would be repulsed.
I discovered the band in '92 when they were also more "rock-oriented", so this is kind of a throwback to this era for me.
I really think Robert is just doing this to be different, which is the reason Porl is not playing keyboards. I honestly don't believe they will carry on this way forever, and I also agree it wouldn't be the best thing either.
So to the people who don't like it, don't get too worried! :D
I liked it; I think you could play "Plainsong" on a kazoo and bongo drum and it would still be one of the best songs ever.
woooooww the guitar is great.  thank you the cure for the music ahhhh.
i agree, they need a keyboard. plainsong wasnt?t spheric as it used to be. during the pornography tour robert or simon added keyboard notes.
plainsong would still sound great if los del rio covered it
I was sooo disappointed in this performance of the song, OMG I was just sitting there with my mouth agape in shock over how absolutely AWFUL it sounded! My oh my I have never missed Roger so much in my life then at that moment! This song CANNOT have the same atmoshere that it's know for WITHOUT the keyboards, it just isn't possible!! The whole arrangement was just terrible I thought! KEYBOARDS, KEYBOARDS, KEYBOARDS!!!!!! They need em!
Yes... guitars :smt035 are not enough!!...

I believe it's still up on Chain Of Flowers.
Yes, I think they need some keyboards. But maybe they've wanted to try something different.
I'm a guitar player myself and like my friend Caley I'm too much influenced by heavy metal. So, I've found this version very cool, but most of all different.
Robert is a very verstile and experimental musician so I guess he explored this different sound for Plainsong
I love this new version of The Cure. The dropping of the keyboards has given them a new edge that really hasn't seen it's daylight before. When listening to these new shows almost every song is taking on a new life. I still love the old sound they had but having something fresh and new is a lot better than something boring and repeated-not that The Cure are ever boring though.
I thought "Plainsong" sounded horrid for the most part. Simon & Jason were great, and even Roberts vocals were good. But Porl's guitar was awful. Now don't get me wrong, I love Porl. He sounded great on many other songs (i.e. "Blood", "At Night" etc...). "Plainsong" just needs to have keyboards, as do many many others...

The prob is that Robert is using a delay pedal and keeps droppin putta time with it IMO.
If he got it tight i reckon itd be awesome

After listening to this song MANY times, I've grown to like the *new* version of Plainsong. Plus, for all of us guitarists out there, it was cool to hear it played like this if you've ever tried to play your own version of Plainsong.
i totally agree...the new version is really awesome....and so fu..ing special
I never heard the new version but I like The Cure wothout the keys.
i'm glad they played it just once and i hope i'll hear "plain song" without keyboards never again!
