Faith encore. Taped. In HD.
f*ck me.
I was sure full Faith encore was coming.
Amazing!
Let's hope now for Same deep water as you for one of the next shows?
pretty annoying of robert - he waits almost at the end of the tour before he can play it.
i think i hate him again!
(but how on earth can they play 'faith', then leave the stage for an encore break and come back with... 'freak show'? somebody on COF said "full faith encore. i can die now" - i might have died if i'd heard that 'faith' -> 'freak show' combo!)
Wow! An amazing setlist. I thought for sure we would get the Faith encore last night in Atlanta, but I'm still very happy for all of you in Charlotte.
Alright, there they let it go. I wonder what makes them choose one encore or another. Is it the city? their mood? robert's mood? Why this encore only once? Who feels like dancing to freakshow after those 4 songs? Why is this band so cure????
I think you've got to be in a bad place to play Faith.
So I feel bad to want it played. Because you know when it is, it's not a good day for Robert. I direct you to the Shrine show. We got Faith. And Robert cried. I felt guilty. Because I enjoyed it so much, and I'm sure part of him did too, but it's a miserable song.
Really jealous of all of you who saw the show tonight. Or, well, last night. I hope it was all you dreamed.

That's a very good point you bring up. In all my years of going to Cure concerts and wishing so hard for them to play "Faith", this really never occured to me. Of course I know what it means for him/them to play it, but I never put it together in my head the way you did. It makes me feel selfish. Thanks a lot, BF! ;)

I'm passing the guilt on to Plainsong; she's the first one to introduce me to the idea.
fantastic setlist, but have to agree the Faith encore should definately end the show :smth023
Yes, the Faith encore should definately have ended the show. But that has been the case all along. First the Faith/Seventeen Seconds encore and then ending with Three Imaginary Boys encore.
DAMN!!!! I will be seeing the next 3 shows and he finally plays Faith the show before I end my run. Guess I shouldn't expect to hear the Faith encore.... :smth011
in north f*cking carolina....
who would have known...
blah

That was excatly my thought... I mean, who from Hickory or Newton will remember this? Now wait for The Drowning Man to become a Nascar anthem, and Holy Hour being covered by Garth Brooks! :smth100
J/k, I used to live in Charlotte and there is a sizeable indie crowd there. I actually prefer life in Charlotte than life in Atlanta.
I think that yesterday they played best setlist on this 4Tour :smth023
bravo :smth041 :smth038
Wow, the faith encore.... :smth049 :smth049 :smth049
i almost can't help it, to feel a bit cynical about something here: they sit on that faith encore for most of the tour, always putting it on the list but it never gets done. then when they film one gig, they come out and play it. so IF i was cynical, i'd say they only played it for the cameras, in order to document it - because they themselves know it's freaking awesome. so they play it for the cameras, the show gets documented... later on people maybe get a possibility to see it on tv/dvd and they think "wow, so that's how the cure tour in 2008 was like! awesome!" - but did they play the damn encore in any other show? no they didn't. just for the damn cameras, like pretending that they've been doing it all the tour.
IF i was a bit cynical, i might think like this...
not sure if i'm the only one thinking/feeling like this. like it's a bit of a con or something.
@j: the best of luck to cleveland etc. - let's hope...
Wasn't there talk of them filming one of the NYC shows?

yup, the one at Madison Square Gardens for a tv-special, so maybe (just an idea) they recorded this as well to have a backup if sth goes wrong there? it wouldn't be an uncommon practice.
@japanesebaby: not cynical at all, exactly my thoughts... if they release sth of course one hopes for this encore to be part of it, but in the end it is not really the truth, seeing how many times they really performed it...
Well,
I've never thought about it that way (ie Japanesebaby cynical post) but I remember that cameras were also here in Paris when they played for 3h30 !
Can we expect some double DVD concert with 1 Euto 4Tour concert & US 4Tour concert :-D
I would still be great to have it filmed!
And lets face it, setlists weren't that static during the US leg of the 4 Tour :smth023
just for the record, since the kind of things i said there can get misunderstood at times:
i didn't meant ot slag off the show/set list at all, nor to "ruin" for the people who were there at this show etc. i just mean that if they want to capture this tour on film, they'd be more honest if they didn't boost up the set list for the filming event and the filming event only (i mean like when they recorded 'show' for instance, they filmed stuff that they played on most shows on wish tour).
that's not the same as to say that i wouldn't like to see/hear this on film or that i didn't appreciate it that it was captured. not at all.
I have read the review on COF and it's well-written. Did they play this encore just for the cameras? Why didn't they do it in Paris, then, one of their favourite cities?
What an awesome setlist alright! I can totally see your cynicism Japanese Baby. Maybe they did and maybe they didn't but overall I am disappointed in the majority of the setlists. The Cure could have mixed their songs up all the the way through the tour and I can't understand why they have not used all their armoury of songs. I feel sorry for the fans that never got a "Faith" Encore or a "Pornography" Encore and I can see how some concert goers would be pissed at not getting last nights setlist when they attended earlier concerts. Another cynical view could be that it it is easier for The Cure to do robotic type setlists that require less testing circumstances..i.e metronomic setlists where you don't have to concentrate so much. Take Iron Maiden and their current touring......Night after night the same setlist...Boring for us but maybe convenient for them.
Anyway thats my thoughts. I'm not rubbishing The Cure , they are a fantastic band. Alittle more imagination would have been nice though :-D
IM GLAD I WAS THERE AND IT WAS MY FIRST TIME SEEING THEM LIVE!!!!!!!!!
i was in the 4th row but made my way to the front row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must be the luckiest boy in the world these days. I'm glad you had such a good experience.
BTW, Charlotte and Faith in Charlotte are on YouTube!
I was there, it was greats!! :-D
the show at charlotte was fantastic and yes it was filmed in HD. they had 1 boom camera and 3 hand held.at times they had the boom camera barely a foot above the crowd.
The Faith encore is the most 'special' of their planned encores, so it's only natural that they play it only once in a while. It requires a special mood from the band (and also from the crowd, I would guess) or at least a special circumstance, it wouldn't work if they did it on every show, I think.
On the other hand, the fact that they played this encore for the first time in the current tour in a venue where cameras were filming the whole thing can hardly be only coincidence.
Anyway, I don't think Robert choses to play 'Faith' only when he is in a 'bad' mood. Different reasons must aply in different circumstances. Remember the 'In Orange' video? They also played 'Faith' in that one and it was at the end of a greatest hits tour (the tour to promote 'Standing on a Beach')... And Robert was having a GOOD time, as can be seen by the way he sang and danced to pop songs like 'Close to me'...

i agree.
back in 1981, they would also play boys don't cry or accuracy. and i never like psychological cause & effects explanations, because this is not how art works.
so, OK, freakshow following faith, even with a 3 minutes pause, is a strange choice indeed, but not so different as putting the figurehead in the middle of nowhere.
the only thing is : during a show, will our own schizophrenia suit the band's one ? i may want to listen to faith and then the 13th, but i also know i may be horrified by such a transition during a show, if i am not in the mood.
anyway, just listened to charlotte sometimes, and even on a crappy youtube version, it sounds really great that way -- i was really wondering how this one would sound like.
next : same deep water as you ?
Well that was some show! From what I saw on youtube it's so amazing! Faith Encore!
Too bad if they decided to only play the Faith Encore just for the filming with HDNet. I think they should have done it in a few cities before that. Still I'm glad they did it at least once. Maybe they will play it at one or both NYC shows? We will soon find out!
And I don't have HDNet where I live so I hope they put that concert on a DVD! :-D
Charlotte Sometimes...my God...amazing! :smth049
