100%. I won't lie to you ;)
ok but how on earth can any agency rely on PHONE sales only in 2007? this is like going baclk to the 80s or something!
insane!! it means it's really difficult to buy tickets outside germany!! :x
sorry i'm mad (i'm not mad at you ;)) but this just makes things so damn difficult.
i still don't get it why kartenhaus website shows nothing at all - if the sales are about to start on saturday!
The Arena is 15 minutes to walk from where I live. I must admit, I am tempted ... but I don't think I'll go. The last Cure shows I saw (Dream Tour, Trilogy, Festival 2005) were so bad, that I swore I'd never go see them again.
I'm just listening to Glastonbury 1986 ... they were such a good live act back then!

Don't worry japanesebaby, i think the Kartenhaus Jahnke will put the date and the price for the ticket etc. on website till saturday :) Hope that comes out right :)
I will go to the Concert :D
superb, and again one of the worst concert venues in Germany... instead of a nice more intimate night at the Tempodrom (excellent venue with good sound) again this horrible warehouse-style Arena... urks...
Another show I hope I will be...

hey i love the old treptow warehouse arena! i was actually really happy to see they'll be playing there, instead of columbiahalle or something (for instance the security at columbiahalle is insane!). to me, treptow arena is one of the most atmospheric venues i've been to, in its weird kind of awkward and rather rough way. had the most greatest time there the last time i went to a concert there - to be perfectly honest the sound was maybe not the best ever, but the atmosphere made it all up - so it'll be very nostalgic to visit it again... (i really hope i can!). i have so good memories from this venue so i guess i can't be disappointed.

I agree that the Arena is not the best venue for a band to play in Berlin, but I wouldn't call the Tempodrom an "intimate" venue either ... I mean, it's not exactly the Columbia Halle or something! But The Cure have played both the Arena and the Tempodrom in the past, and neither turned out to be a breathtakingly good show.
Morrissey played the Arena, and he rocked the house! So I guess it doesn't depend on the venue alone, it's also about ability and charisma.

Sullen:
I bought my 2002 tickets via them over the phone. It was no problem then, so it shouel be alright now (at least I hope). Let me know what you find out
Actually, the more I think about it, they took my order over the phone, then held the tickets until they received my international money order. Once they received the money order via mail, they then sent me my tickets. Very good organization. I got my Woodstage and Zillo tickets through them
Cool.
Thanx for the info.
Dosen't sound too bad.
Was it easy to get someone who spoke english on the phone?
Or do you speak German?
I also emailed them just asking some questions about international orders.
When, and if, they reply, ill post the info here.
Wondering if tix are only available by phone?
And it's a pay hotline?
Is that like a 1900 that we know in the US?
I hope I will be able to call with a calling card as i havent had a landline in years
and verizon wireless wont let you dial out of country....
I'm pretty sure ill be at Hamburg and Berlin.
Just hope i can get tickets!!!!

around 7500.
pretty idiotic if they only rely on phone sales. ???
I speak some German....enough to get by (had 4 years in High School and 2 years in college). I know how to ask for ketchup, beer, and goulaschzuppe- you know, the important things. Each time I called I was able to get an english speaking person on the phone. When they answer, just say "Spreche sie English?". 9 times out of ten they will say "Yes, a little bit".
wow so lucky all of you...i'll hope i can be there.... ;)

to me personally Arena 2000 was one of the weaker gigs of the tour, couldn't feel any atmosphere at all (neither could some of my friends...)- the problem though for sure is, that Berlin lacks of a proper venue these days. the sound to is really bad in that place (low ceiling, massive ground etcetc) - Tempodrom was nice in 2002 + seemed way more intimate + more acceptable as a venue (hold approx 1/2 of Arena), Arena has to me the character of one of those warehouse in a harbour surrounding that isn't used any longer, sorry! best would have been a summer gig in the Waldbühne, by far the best venue in Berlin - always enjoyable concerts there. but of course way too big for The Cure, unfortunately...

Standing places near the stage?
Is there in Berlin Arena any kind of differentiation in standing seats?

last time i was on treptow arena, all tickets were sold as 'general admission'. there was no differentiation in standing seats, also no barriers to divide the audience into sections. looks to me like it's the same now. i do remember the arena had some elevated seats too at the back of the venue (both right and left), but those were for whoever got there quickly enough, these seated areas were not specified in the tickets.
i've purchased tickets vie jahnke website, seemed to go very easy and nicely imo. :smth001
tickets Berlin:
as japanesebaby said, the few seats are on the side - first come first serve basis, it is general admission for all, stand where you want, soundwise seating is definetaley not top choice.
for Hamburg (as someone asked): wait until there is a booking chance with www.kartenhaus.de or with www.eventim.de - both normally offer direct booking for the seats - to get a general idea which seats are good ones, go to www.kartenhaus.de + type in 'Joe Cocker', click on the Hamburg gig + on the right above the tickets it says 'Saalplan', meaning you can see which seats are close to the stage (don't get irritated by the numbers on the floor, as the venue can be used as completely seated as well) - so if you have to order with Karsten Jahnke directle, you can at least ask them if they have tickets in for example U7 or U15. Good luck in picking some of the better spots. the upper levels 'O' are pretty high, 'U' is a better choice + in general the lower the number of the row is, the further down you sit - remember the arena is quite massive!
ok now i REALLY regret that i booked the tickets via jahnke website:
they just told me they don't ship outside germany - which means, the tickets have to be collected from the venue ONLY 1,5 hours prior to the show - which is bullshit is you have a standing ticket. it will ruin any possibility to get any sort of decent spot in the audience.
for isntance, berlin arena is standing ONLY, no seats. so the entrance queue is hellishly long anyway. if you need to queue for the tickets first, only then start queueing for the entrance and you get in among the last = you get a complete shit spot.
i just cannot find this information (that they don't send outside germany) from the jahnke website, is it really there?
because if they insist on this, they should have said it in the first place. or am i just too blind/illiterate to see it written somewhere...(?)
anyway, if it's not possible to change this stupid "collect at the venue" option, i might have to consider re-ordering from some other seller.... even if i had to pay for the tickets again. because last time i had to submit to this idiotic procedure and collect tickets from the venue, it just really ruined everything for me, it really did. and i swore i'll never use such agencies again.
it's really stupid because other german agencies like kartenhaus for instance always sends your tickets to you via mail.

Well you know, a ticket can be pretty heavy sometimes! :-D
insane - hopefully Kartenhaus will have them as well, registered shipping is normally sth like 7EUR (if I remember correctly) worldwide shipping.
with Jahnke - same procedure as every year... sorry, but I have had twice really bad experiences + therefore will never ever order tickets with them again! and for the question foreign countries... nope, can't see it anywhere mentioned, at least not in their faq and that is where such an important information has to be stuck - call them or mail + claim a refund for the tickets or at least ask them where on their webpage they mentioned that they don't post to other countries (it says nowhere: we only post to Germany)!!!
and @japaneseboy - no fear regarding Berlin! you'll be easily able to walk into somewhere like the first 10 rows without pushing + without qeueing for 5 hours - at least it was like this during Dream Tour...

i already contacted then and asked for a refund - no response. i even tried calling them - there was just an answer machine in german although i did call during their office hours... ok. :?
after i had sent them several emails about this, they finally did respond - but no comment about any refunds other than they said they'll refund the shipping costs i paid for, in case i end up collectin gthe tickets at the venue.
i asked them at least twice to point me out where this "we don't ship abroad" info can be found on their website - no comments from them. :smth011
anyway, now they did agree to send my tickets within germany, as long as i give them a german address - so i contacted a friend in germany and i'm about to suggest the agency that they send the tickets to my friend who'll then send them to me. there's certainly more fuss and even slightly more fear of tickets getting lost in the mail... but somehow i still do feel it's the best options at the moment.
and yes: i won't use this agency ever again. i've always used kartenhaus what comes to german concerts and everything always worked like a charm with them - i really don't understand why they aren't selling any tickets for the cure shows.

THE CURE IN BERLIN 16TH FEB. 08 + AFTER SHOW PARTY
The 4 Tour 2008 is coming up. Thousands of The Cure fans will travel all over Europe to experience the exceptional The Cure Shows live.
Many of you will surely also be in the Arena in Berlin the 16th February 2008.
Since Sunday the 17th February 2008 until now is registered as an "off-day" in the tour calendar (I am tipping for a second concert in Berlin if the advance sales are going well) it seems obvious to celebrate in the night to Sunday before it proceeds in Warsaw on the Monday.
In order to celebrate properly, we have decided to have the party on the Arena club ship, MS HOPPETOSSE, with three floors and a spectacular view over the city of Berlin.
More details on www.thecure.de/party
Hope to see you all!!!

i think it's much easier to manage with english in germany than in france. actually paris is the only large northern/central european city where i have experienced language problems, as some people didn't speak any english at all and as i didn't speak any french. :?

a very good thing about berlin is that tegel airport is well within the city limits - so when arriving in berlin, you don't get stranded somewhere out in the boonies and then get totally ripped off by having to resort to some overpriced bus/train combination, in order to get to the city. this is what mostly happens, in most other cities. :? but in berlin, you can just take an ordinary bus ride to the city and be there nicely in about 15-20 minutes.
there are several bus lines, some going to zoo station, some to alexanderplatz. it's easy to find further transport connections anywhere you want from both places. in your case i suppose you should better go to alex.
so, depending on how long you will stay in berlin, just buy a ticket for BVG (city transport services = busses, subway etc.) that is valid for the time you intent to stay and there you go!
(i think schlesisches strasse is actually very near/next to the treptow arena. so i think your hotel location is very ideal.)
Think so?
Thank you very much & everyone else for helping me with all of those things.
Sometimes i'm stupid & can't do simple (for other people) things...
I'll be in Berlin at 15th February,so anyone who might want a drink before the show or even after at the party i'm more than open.
:)
Anyone have an extra ticket?

Capacity of Velodrom?
Quote from: figurehead on February 01, 2008, 23:42:16
Capacity of Velodrom?
Primarily built for the Olympic games in 2000, the Velodrom in Berlin also holds popular concerts by very well-known bands. With its capacity of 12,000
So is this a good move? I admit, I'm wary of our US chances after seeing the band changing venue dates just 16 days before the show.....
So that means more tickets to come out propably.
Not bad, once a cure always a cure after all.
:)

Quote from: figurehead on February 02, 2008, 00:41:50
p.s.: again all standings or they will be seats as well?
seating and standing normally - though standing space should be less than in Arena - all the floor standing the rest seating - if they don't use seating the change of venue would not really make sense - so be there maybe a bit earlier as normal to avoid disappointment.
as wilco said, terrible acoustics, so not much of a change from Arena
but Berlin these days doesn't have a good venue for more than 5000 if you don't count in open-air venues like Wuhlheide or the excellent Waldbühne so not much of a choice really - don't get it though why they change this 2 weeks in advance...
you`re right - but have a look at the ceiling (? <- right word in english <-?) the beams and lamps...
cheers

Thanks for the info Lovecat :)
Thanks for the info for the After Show Party Wilco :)
If the acoustic isn't good at the Velodrome, why did they choose the hall and
not another ?
When we are there we will know how the acoustic is :)
i'm pretty disappointed of the venue change. i was really hoping for a different sort of concert in berlin than in hamburg, that was the whole point. but now both are in these large huge arenas. :?
besides i was really looking forward visiting the treptow arena again, have some good memories from there. what comes to atmosphere, velodrom is a lifeless place compared to treptow arena. :x
now i just REALLY hope they don't change the venue for vienna too!

just a general note: all these googlemaps instructions work only if you have your own car and one can choose which way to drive.
with public transportation one always has to take a completely different routes.
anyway it's really easy to find a way from tegel to the velodrom. just take a bus from tegel to alexanderplatz (there's a direct connection that leaves right in front of the airport) and then change to a subway from there.

Sure!..googlemap is for reference only. However, a deeper look in the map can be helpful, too.
Update: also useful when there's no bus or metro to take. If I remember correctly, in Europe there are very few buses or no buses after midnight.

that's true, most big cities in europe surely miss nighttime transportation, places like london and paris are really hopeless in this respect.
but one thing i always liked about berlin is that the subway system works throughout the night on weekends (at least it used to, last time i was there). :smth023

This seems like a good night for the Bloodflowers open/close, with A Strange Day and The Figurehead thrown in. Maybe move Plainsong/Disintegration to an encore with the Seventeen Seconds encore and the Faith encore. A perfect dark show that's completely achievable with the songs that they've been playing.
Ladies and gentleman, welcome to another Cure show. Tonight's concert will be covered again for our lovely japanesebaby. Check the first post of this topic for updates.
Thanks again, Marika :smth023
I believe they will play some darker songs tonight. It's the first back-to-back show of the tour and in the same country as the previous concert. Robert knows Cure fans travel, so I just have this feeling some totally different stuff will be featured this evening. Let's hope so, right?
To all of our friends at the concert (texting, taking pictures and video, taping, or simply just enjoying the show) have a wonderful evening.
Have a lovely time everyone!

Hopefully it doesn't take five more shows before a few of the above make the set.

I encourage people who has concert pics to upload them in our gallery (http://curefans.com/index.php?action=gallery&g2_view=core.ItemAdmin&g2_subView=core.ItemAdd&g2_itemId=1269&g2_return=%2Findex.php%2Fv%2Flive%2F2008%2Feuropeantour%2Fberlin%2F%3Faction%3Dgallery%26g2_ion%3Dgallery%26g2_0%3D%26g2_e%3D%26g2_8%3D%26g2_opeantour%3D%26g2_lin%3D%26g2_tion%3Dgallery&g2_returnName=album). It's not a good idea to insert the pics directly inside the posts as it makes the pages veeeeeery long and you have to scroll down to see more pics or more info. If anyone put the pics already in another place (photobucket, flickr, etc.) then maybe is better to put just the link.
If anyone have trouble to put pics into our gallery, you can ask me or any of the moderators for help. Another way would be to attach the pics to the post. This is useful when attaching a few pics but for many pics the gallery is really the best option.
I want to thank Wilco for sending me his Berlin pics for our gallery (http://curefans.com/index.php/v/live/2008/europeantour/berlin/?action=gallery).

uuuhmmm.... i consider that a joke, right?
me? joking around? nooo. i heard it on the grapevine. Do you not think he's good?
well frankly Ive seen a lot of better drummers ... sounds quite dull on the festival dvd at least...
But not everyone could be like Matt Cameron though ... :)

well he's not the worst musician ever but he surely ain't no gavin harrison either...
the cure used have a couple of good drummers before him, though.
grapevine: hmm one shouldn't believe all things heard through it... ;)
(anyway, everyone can have their preference, i don't mind. besides, this drummer issue's been discussed many times so maybe not a place to start a new discussion in this thread.)
*edit: didn't read through budvarka's post before posting mine. looks like i had nothing new to say... ;)
sodeli!
i finally find time to tell you about my weekend in berlin... as you may not know... one of my favourite bands played a concert there and i flew there just to see them... hm... some might call me a jerk, but thats how i am... :-)
okay: we landed in berlin friday night and went to find our appartement to leave our luggage and the to move to the k17 club in berlin-friedrichshain... they had this party called nightmare... and yes!! only smog an candles and very nice sound!!! at 5.30... we went back to bed, because on saturday this favourite band of mine... you know!
we went to the velodrom at about 7pm just to see, that we werent the first ones... a huge crowd outside! but!! they had this small booth outside with beer and bratwurst!! yeah!! while inside, i was checking out the venue... nicenice!
and they also had a supportband called 65daysofstatic... almost better than mogwai, another of my favourite bands...
at 20.49 exactly... this favourite band of mine hit the stage... called the cure, they've always been that to me: a cure!! and wow!! they started with plainsong!! (sorry cult_hero...) i liked it and an ice cold beer just landed in my hand! good timimg!
it was the thirty something cure-concert i attended and its always the same when it starts!! a good, a very good feeling inside!! a lot of disintegration songs in the first half... they work without keyboards! also a night like this!! works!! the sound was brilliant imo and i had a good place about 15 meters from the stage on the left hand side...
first highlight was to wish impossible things... nice one!! and then... i actually expected inbetween days or shake dog shake or already just like heaven... it happened! the played the drowning man!!! wanna see? go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CxQsGYm1po (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CxQsGYm1po) and feel good!!
i really like a boy i never knew, but i think they even topped it with a huge kmkmkm intermezzo!!! real powerful and sensitive in one!!
the two greatest hits-add ons... nah, not my thing! 100 years and a nice version of disintegration to end it all!
i then hd to go back a little, my friend didnt feel very good and i wanted to stay with him for the encores...
17 seconds encore as usual... i like it!! but i thought that now the encores remain like the concerts before and tried to catch another beer... i told everyone who wanted to hear it (...about nooen...) that now the pop-encore will start with lets go to bed... and... what a suprise!! lovecats! only my second time that i hear that!! first time was vilar de mouros 2004... nice one! the rest... ah! when robert only sings you see that he doesnt feel well and the sound... isnt mine!!
so i hoped for some new surprises (a pornography encore?) and yes!! 3IB is a surprise! the first time i hear that song and robert did not forget the lyrics!! :-) jumpin is a good song live and the old ones too! so a good ending after more than 3 hours of emotions (for me)!
we the decided to go to the party on the boat and took a taxi to be the first... almost!! a nice venue but we were too tired to stay long and ... to be honest, after more than 3 hours of the cure... i had enough! another 4 hours of party to that sound... would have been too much!!
so... bed!!
allinall, a nice setlist, great venue and perfect voice and band!! they really are one of the best live bands i've ever seen, and believe me... i've seen 'em all!
cant wait to go to vienna on friday! cheers!
and for all you german speeking outthere: http://www.morgenpost.de/desk/1686153.html (http://www.morgenpost.de/desk/1686153.html)
hey stef i think i saw you in the crowds in berlin, just before the support started. you were talking to some friends (and you were very tall hehe). i walked past you and i was going to come back and ask if it was you but then the 65dos started and well the rest is history... :P
'to wish impossible thing' = that was :D

Berlin was also awesome!!! I love the version of The Kiss, it was a great version.
A surprise for me was that they played Lovecats. And the new songs Please Project and A Boy I never knew are very good. Like them very much.

There are just 50-60 shirts around the world, and I think the most will be in Paris 8)
My wife says that if we go together with the same shirt, we will look like kids from kinder garden, you know using the same uniform :P. Looking forward to see that :P

Yep. With lacrima mosa using a Curefans.com shirt we would get a huge publicity. I mean, he's so tall that everyone would notice what he's wearing! :smth023

I think that our boys are getting better & better!
For me it was their best concert ever, till the next one of course!
:)
Ouh & i'm taking back whatever i said about new songs or new album.
I really enjoy three of them (Please Project which is pop & melodic-A Boy I Never Knew/just love it for a certain reason-Freak Show/sounds fun & seems too while Bob is dancing the way he knows ;) )
See you all in Rome...
i grabbed a bunch of newspapers while still in berlin on monday:

(translations would be appreciated - by german is good enough to browse them through but maybe not good enough to make word-to-word translations.)
