Title: Earliest Recording
Post by: thecurerocksme on September 24, 2005, 11:41:43
Hi, Everyone.
This is my first post and I would just like to say that this site rocks.
I thought it would be appropriate to post at this time as I am sitting here
being my normal insomniac self, while the Eye of the hurricane is just
over land.
Anyway, to cure stuff...Does anyone know which is the absolute
earliest available recording of The Cure?...link etc. would be nice.

I really enjoy their early raw punk sound but my fav. period is the dark
melodic pornography days.  Disintegration is great too! more rainy and
less deviant than pornography. Thanks for this site! God Bless
America ...we need it.

For live stuff, the earliest recording I know of is "Heroin Face", taken from Crawley 1977.12.04. Definitely a punk sound, and Robert sounds very young. The best sounding version of this is available on the second disc of the Three Imaginary Boys reissue.

The earliest complete live recording I know of anyone having is London 1979.03.11. Sadly, there's little trace of pre-1979 recordings, even though a lot of concerts were played during that time.

As for studio stuff, I'd assume the Easy Cure demos are the earliest recordings that anyone (except maybe Robert) has. I know we don't have them all!
Title: thanks

Wow thanks so much for the detailed info. Do you know where this concert might be found? So far the earliest complete recording that I have is from 1980.  This site is neat because you never know what new recording will pop up.  Would be neat if there was a section of new recordings ...new to curefans.com..never posted before..or a section dedicated to new concerts that veteran collectors have come across..just a thought. have a goodnight,

You're welcome. I'm sure you'll find many surprises if you stick around. :smt020

I just requested that show in a trade. Hopefully it will all be finished within the next couple weeks. I've always wanted this for the reason that it's the earliest known complete Cure recording, but I kept putting it off in lieu of other stuff. But I just finally had to get it!

I'm sure there's others on here who have it. You'll a chance to hear it someday. :-D

Are you sure that's the correct title of the song? I thought it was this at one time as well, but when I listened to the original version by Mott the Hoople there was absolutely no resemblance whatsover, none.

I can't imagine that it's really that song, unless they completely changed it. But still, I don't think so... You gotta hear the original version to know what I'm talking about!!!
