2 1/2 cups of flour sifted
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cloves
2 teaspoons ginger
2 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 cup margerine
4 tablespoons molasses
1 cup sugar
1 egg unbeaten
creame shortening
Add sugar gradually creaming until light. Add egg, beat thoroughly; Add mollasses. Add flower + spices gradually. Mix thoroughly. Roll in balls the size of walnuts; Dip in sugar - place sugar side up on greased cookie sheet.
Bake in moderate oven
White cookies
Make like the above except:
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- grated rind of 1 lemon
4 tablespoon white karo syrup
Makes 3 1/2 - 4 dozen cookies
Bake at 350 degrees 10 - 12 minutes
