QuoteTHERE IS HOWEVER A LOT OF FLUX AROUND...
SO MORE REAL NEWS WHEN THE AIR CLEARS
Well, this could/should mean there are some changes in the line-up of The Cure.
And the latest (pretty wild) rumor is that Porl is out of the band.
Nothing to do now, just wait and see what really happened in the last months of no-news-period...
No Porl can't leave the band!
Everyone was saying that they could do a tour to support the new Disintegration, put surely they'd need a keyboard player for that? Do you think it's a possibility? I would love to see keyboards on SOME songs. But not others, I think JLH, a forest, boy's don't cry etc are better without.
well i mean, they SHOULD do a disintegration tour.
but i don't think there was ever much likelihood to that.
anyway, we'll have to wait and see, i suppose.. though it's nerve-wracking, isn't it?
I really hope that rumor of Porl leaving was only a bad joke.

me too. i could think of someone else in the band i wouldn't mind leaving though...
i've always found it hard to really admire robert (apart from for his musical skills alone for which i do admire him, no doubt about that). but it is extremely difficult/often impossible to be around narcistic people. it seems to be rather natural to him, to see band members coming and going, just shrug to it with a "that's just the way the cure is" - even when some really valuable band members have quit. to me this is clearly a rather narcistic quality. yet not all bands "work" like that, many bands stick together more or less for the entirety of their existence.
it's just interesting to compare that.

I agree, but I've always figured that Porl would be the first to go again, considering he's left on his own terms before.
Anyway, if anybody leaves I really hope it's Jason. He's been in the band WAY too long (only second to Robert and Simon). I'm not saying Boris has to come back, but it really wouldn't be that hard to find a replacement. I mean, almost every drummer I've ever seen live is better than Jason, which really says something.
And yeah, funny how a band like U2 (who is just about the exact same age as The Cure) hasn't had a single lineup change. I mean, one would think that someone like Bono might be "a little" difficult to get along with at times. ;)

Doesn't that coincide with not having a single change in musical style?
scnr...

hmm i wouldn't say that - i thikthey've done a bunch of pretty different albums over the years. sure, you can always recognize their style - but the same applies to the cure too. whatever change "in style" they had, you can always recognize it anyway. actually i wouldn't even say the cure have had much change in style for a long time. "different album productions" doesn't mean "different style" to me.

i guess the difference is that bono might have a huuuge ego both on stage and outside the stage, but when it comes to making music, he seems to know it's a group effort (which it is).
i'm not sure the same can be said about robert...

haha
i do kind of agree with japanese baby though, though U2 can get repetitive at times, so can the cure. i enjoy both though :) (the cure more, of course)
anyway, it's just that all bands are different. it's not as if the cure is the only band to have ever had a lineup change. and i think because the members changed so frequently in the early years, it's just led to it always being that way. if robert had felt the responsibility to resist lineup changes, the cure probably would be long gone by now. i think lineup changes can freshen things up once in a while, and maybe changes inspire his creativity somewhat.
and i honestly don't think most of the band members have a problem with it. they come into the band knowing it's like that. it's just the way the cure is, for better or for worse.
Thank god, finally some news!
Maybe Rob is convincing Roger they need keyboards again...

Round Three ?
Musically yes, emotionally I'm really not sure. Life does have a very strange habit of repeating itself though doesn't it? Roger
Well, I didn't seriously want to suggest that U2 have been releasing the same album over and over again (like, say, AC/DC). It's just that the longer their history stretches, the more they bore me. It has to be said that The Cure have become less surprising over the years, but that might be related to me grwoing older...
I agree with jb that different production doesn't equal different style, but I do think that record production has become a crucial contributor to style. Had the Joshua Tree been produced differently, it might have become a goth record (and I know I'm going out in a limb here).
To get back to topic: Porl leaving would be a little sad indeed, but let's wait for official statements.

Hey, you stole my words there! I thought the same everytime I went to a show. Take for instance the drummer of Massive Attack or the drummer of Franz Ferdinand, or Depeche Mode's drummer. Everyone is "top-notch". I don't understand why is not the same with The Cure :?

I've never understood why people have a problem with Jason. He's been fine at the gigs I've seen, and of course there are a few videos of him messing up on youtube, but all drummers make mistakes. He seems consistent to me, even if he's not as good a musician as Boris.
FYI
The official www.thecure.com (http://www.thecure.com) site isn't available???
Do we need worry about it now?
Hmmm. Thant's interesting.
Only problem is Robert won't have a way of communicating with fans anymore.
The site is indeed down, but it might be just because their server is down (a technical thing).

But I would assume all Geffen's (or whatever label runs the website) artist sites are on the same server, and it would be unusual for that to be down for at least 12 hours now.
The site is back :-D
My guess is: he's talking "fluctuations" in the music business.
And "a lot of flux" does not sound to me as if he's talking about one member of the band. :?
I hope that Porl is out of the band and they've recruited a new keyboardist/guitarist.
Or, they've just got Perry and O'Donnel back...
