I preordered the 3 cds at www.cede.ch , ok I am not really excited but cds sre affordable nowadays and warchild deserves our support
Received a newsletter from the band...
"I chose warsong to remix as it's one of those slow building, brooding musical pieces that has always drawn me into the cures music. My idea with this remix was to strip it back slightly of its organic instrumentation and bring in ridged, mechanical percussion and some down pitched vocals aimed to bring forth the cold/dystopic feel of the song while maintaining the core beauty of what existed." -Chino.
thanks Ulrich, I must admit I like the remix :-)

I agree. I think I will order the deluxe 3cd version too. At least it's for a good cause, and the Chino Moreno remix is wonderful. Still have to listen to the others, though. I hope they might be available (or at least some of them) on Youtube
Just ordered the Deluxe 3 cd version. I hope it's worth it...
From the newsletter I received today:
QuoteAudio fragments from Mixes Of A Lost World have been pressed to vinyl acetate
A number of independent record stores worldwide – nominated by the remix artists – have received a copy
There is one copy per nominated shop – for visiting and listening in store
The acetates will decay more and more with each play
There are a small number of extra acetates... go to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and nominate a favorite store. They might receive a copy...
Thank you to independent record stores everywhere and always

Do you know, or at least remember what Roger's (now deleted) message said on the matter? I'm curious to know. I follow him on BS too, btw, but somehow missed that one. Thank you.

Perhaps unrelated but I saw you mention something called NOSTR on Bluesky as a true alternative to X. Can you elaborate what it is? I checked the wikipedia link you pasted on your post but didn't understand much
@dsanchez .
Btw, thanks for mentioning me on Bluesky and the fact I discovered the forum through Curepedia...

My guess is Roger's deleted message expressed the same skepticism about these mixes, but then somebody (RS?) persuaded him to "reconsider"? It sounds plausible...

Not with this one though, with the band's royalties being for the benefit of "Warchild" (which might indeed be the main reason for me to buy it, maybe add another cassette to my very small cassette Cure collection!)...

Can't say I'm too thrilled about this release. I liked Mixed Up (except for the crap remixes of Pictures of You and Inbetween Days) but so far not feeling it for these remixes ...
Out today... anyone bought it?
I might go get the 2cd version (for the sake of supporting "Warchild").
Ordered a few weeks ago through my local record store and it's ready. I will pick it up today :)
Should anybody be interested in this: I think the new shopping experience on the official website has become less efficient. The evidence for this: when I ordered SOALW, the deluxe CD arrived in a few days and the shipping expenses were not that big. Since they switched company - I think the new one dealing with the shipping of items is located in Virginia, USA - prices have almost doubled and shipping is likely to take much longer. I preordered the deluxe version of MOALW, because the site claimed the cost was 25 euros, only to discover it doubled up after the shipping expenses (to a European country, in my case) were calculated. Ok, I could have stopped and delete the operation, but decided to proceed instead (silly me!) and let them process my order. Now, the cd has come out officially, but my copy is not due to arrive until June 28th, possibly June 30th. I don't think I will shop from the official website anymore.
@Sacha8 the fault is all your dear, not of the official store
Perhaps you chose to order for the US version rather than the UK or European one.
EU orders ships from DE

BSI merch is for UK

That's good to know. It sounded rather strange that the store made such a heavy mistake... Thank you so much for clarifying. I feel really embarrassed by the whole thing, and kind of depressed too... :1f62d: :1f62d: :1f62d:

not shipped from USA and arrived within a few days (even sooner than expected)!
If possible, do not hide your IP address and always double-check when visiting the store if you're in that part of the world where it's shipped.

Thanks a lot for your support! The funny thing is I spent the same amount of money to get the deluxe versions of Pornography and Disintegration (in the same order, and for both CDS) from a local store...
Distribution seems not as good as with the (regular studio) album back in November; I went to 2 shops (in one I'd bought the album) and none of them had it on stock... :1f636:

I've just received my copy, but somehow still haven't found the time to listen to it... Too busy with work (and rediscovering Björk's music...)
The enthusiasm about this remix project from all sides (incl. myself) is really overwhelming! :winking_tongue
Ok, so today I found some time and sat down to properly listen to the 3 cds of MOALW. Here is my assessment:
CD 1: there are interesting tracks, like Paul Oakenfold remix of I can never say goodbye and Daniela Avery's version of Drone: No drone, some others which are quite unventful and banale like Daybreakers remix of Warsong, and one which frankly is offensive - All I ever am by Meera: wtf is this? Orbital's version of Endsong is really creative and one of the highlights of this preliminary cd, but the reat treat in this part definitely is Ame's take on A fragile thing, truly inspirational!
CD 2: the weakest of the collection, with the exception of Cosmodelica's remix of And nothing is forever - mildly interesting, nothing more - my advice is to skip this and go directly to Disc 3.
CD 3: here's where things get interesting. Despite only two of the artists explicitly define their tracks as "reworks", the whole set in part 3 is made up of wonderfully conceived and truly original reworkings on The Cure's songs. Craven Faults' I can never say goodbye is a rare gem, where the original transmutes into something completely different (Robert's voice is not even there, but who cares: this is a work of art in its own right). Joycut's and Trentemoller's deconstructive strategy towards Drone and Nothing is forever respectively are fascinating, as is Chino Moreno's bare rendering of Warsong. The best comes last, and the final reworks are the most memorable, especially Mogwai's heartbreaking take on Endsong. Some might find this anathema, but personally I prefer 65daysofstatic's version of All I ever am to The Cure's! Anyway, CD 3 is worth the price of the whole cd, but pruning cd 2 altogether (and part of CD 1 too) would have been so much better.
Thanks a lot for your in-depth review, much appreciated! :smth023
Btw, Mogwai's version of Endsong is both unmistakably a Mogwai song and a way to flesh out elements of The Cure's original which I didn't know were there. Today I listened to Mogwai's rework first, then to the original, and I have to say Mogwai helped me understand something more about the song. I can't really quite explain what, but I'm grateful for their escavating things there were hidden there somewhere. I cried while listening to both, and also realized why RS decided to use so many (and so loud!) guitars. It makes sense.
Finally went to pickup this last Friday. My thoughts:
CD1: Except for the version of 'All I Ever Am' (which I would never realise is 'All I Ever Am'), all the rest of the cd is forgettable
CD2: Forgettable. Might give it another try
CD3: Still not listened.
Nice review!
Well I finally got round to buying this! 3CD version for 22,99 Euro (instead of the 2CD for 19,99).
For a moment, I considered not "unpacking" it at all and just sell it later (as it is a "limited" version), but I got too curious and listened to the first CD in the car.
(I got new tyres and the sound they make is different to before; thus I need to "drown this out".)
Got to say I really enjoyed 2 of the tracks: the Paul Oakenfold remix of "I can never say goodbye" (he kept the piano notes from the original, otherwise it seems like a "new" song almost).
The other one I enjoyed was "Alone" (Four Tet remix).
Most other remixes seem to be in the typical "dance/electronic music" fashion of remixes (to my ears, it's not the kind of music I normally listen to).
I only heard a little bit of CD 2 and nothing from CD 3 so far (I really do look forward to the Mogwai remix, as I like Mogwai a lot).
In general, I think it could be good to listen to those during long, boring car drives! (I might have a few of those in August.)
Join me later for more... :cool
Edit (2x):
After a few more listens (in the car & at home) so far these are my favourites:
I CAN NEVER SAY GOODBYE (Paul Oakenfold 'Cinematic' Remix)
ALONE (Four Tet Remix)
AND NOTHING IS FOREVER (Cosmodelica Electric Eden Remix)
I CAN NEVER SAY GOODBYE (Craven Faults Rework)
ALL I EVER AM (65daysofstatic Remix)
ENDSONG (Mogwai Remix)
If anything, MOALW is making me appreciate SOALW more... Just listened to the whole record again today and found it incredibly compact and cohesive both in terms of sound and lyrics. Used to think A fragile thing and Drone: No drone were weak songs, after listening to the remixes I appreciate the sad/enraged layer of the original which I hadn't noticed previously
Quote from: Sacha8 on July 25, 2025, 18:54:58If anything, MOALW is making me appreciate SOALW more...
Yeah, sometimes it made me wanna listen to the original recordings too. However I was too busy with 3 remix cds... so far.
SOALW is a bit of a "winter album" for me, I listened fanatically between November and March/April. (It was also quite the "soundtrack" to my life, with friends and relatives ill or dying.)
Thus, MOALW is a bit more of a "summer album" for me, some tracks having a bit of a "pop feeling".
At best, the remixes can give you a fresh perspective on a familiar song!
At worst, some can be boring: a few dance beats, distorted vocals and instruments, echo echo echo...
On the whole, for me it was/is interesting to listen to them all. I found out I prefer to listen in the car rather than at home! Good thing I had some drives to do and some more upcoming in early August!

I'm sorry about that. I guess SOALW feels personal to most of us because of people around us dying, either physically or metaphorically... the album resonates with this sense of futility and emptiness deriving from coming to terms with death.
Thanks. Well music always helps pulling me through. I made a special mix CD for the car, starting with "Alone", which I listened to during drives to the hospital in January (etc.)!
My fave of the remixes is still "I can never say goodbye" (Paul Oakenfold remix), which I currently even prefer over the original recording!
