While working on their ninth studio album, Monster, the R.E.M. came to know about the shocking news of Kurt Cobain's suicide. Michael Stipe's deeply emotional reaction to his friend's death led to this raw prayer-like song: Let me in

So, there are many unconventional horrors and/or scifi films, or a combination of both, I'd recommend.
I'll start with this: Little Joe by Jessica Hausner. It's about a woman scientist working with flowers and creating one by inhibiting its reproductive functions. I guess the story starts from this question: what might happen if a species is prevented from reproducing? What would it do to spread its pollen and proliferate?

I've just started The Little Black Book of Stories by A.S. Byatt. Not her best book, but still interesting.

The last TV series I really REALLY enjoyed (we are talking about five years ago, the rest I've watched since then is rubbish) is Tales from the Loop:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_from_the_Loop

It's a clever combination of dystopia, psychological insight and a philosophical pondering over life. Unlike many other series, it is short, one season only, and it has a clear artistic purpose, it was not done to make bucks only but to make people think. It is a slow-paced kind of story, with no action whatsoever and very slow dialogues, so forget about all those hectic NYC/LA superfast talkers or action-packed flicks, it is something quite different and special. Also, unlike many other series, it isn't based on either a novel or a podcast, but on an art book. You can find more info on the drawings here, on the artist's official page:

Something else / Re: Russia attacks Ukraine

Quote from: bbcPolish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says that leaders of Canada, Japan, Turkey, New Zealand, and European countries assessed the outcomes of the Alaska meeting "very realistically".

Turkey generally has good relations with Russia. Canada is flirting with the EU. Japan is already much further ahead in terms of its military buildup, which doesn't surprise me. The German Foreign Minister was there at the right time. I think China's protests against this are quite remarkable and it allows certain conclusions. When countries like Australia and New Zealand say "the conflict is too far away," I can even understand that. Australia recently delivered main battle tanks again. The Asian part of Russia, on the other hand, is huge compared to Ukraine. So the countries mentioned above are also more or less involved.  :neutral-face
