Ever heard a song and gone and bought the whole album on the back of that, only to find nothing else on that album appealed to you very much?

Happened to me with this:

I still like this track just as much 30 years later, but haven't heard anything else from them that ever stayed with me, except possibly Waterfall.  Admittedly, didn't buy any more of their catalogue after that one, so if anyone else wants to fill in some gaps, you can play them here.

Also happened with this song, from an Australian band:

It's not that the rest of the album sounds horrible, it's just that I never want to play it, other than occasionally as background music...

I have exactly one single in my music collection, because Green Day usually give me a rash, but I did like this one (and not its B-side either):

Ditto the Dandy Warhols; Brett bought an album for a couple of tracks, including this one of theirs I actually like (musically, and the chorus is OK, but I wouldn't give any awards to their lyric-writing):

Another song I like, but again, pretty much nothing else from that band:

And you know what, I really like the idea of The Stranglers, and love exactly one of their songs...

...but try as I might, I just haven't warmed to anything else I've heard by them, and you're all playing plenty of them on the other thread.  I don't think they're dreadful, but I just never seem to go oooh-aaaah over anything else of theirs... but could play the above track every day and not get sick of it...

Now Icehouse from Australia did one song that's pretty much universally adored here.  I'll put the Australian landscape montage clip in so you can see how well the music goes with this country...

A goosebumps number - yet the only other thing by this band I actually like is called Icehouse (when they were called The Flowers).

On the classical side, I bought Andrew Manze's Reflections specifically for this arrangement of Bach's Toccata & Fugue:

It's a wee bit tame compared to some violin versions I've heard (check out this one!), and Brett's got a fabulous version for organ (which is what it was written for) that sounds all like tinkling glass bells...  the above track is OK, but there's eight pieces on this CD, including a bit of Tartini's Devil's Trill Sonata which was played almost funereally, rather than with the fire this kind of piece ought to be played with (IMO)...

Curiouser and curiouser, those one-offs.

So go on, what are yours?

As much as I've never heard anything as amazing as Fools Gold, there are other Stone Roses songs which I like a lot.

I acknowledge that if the first thing you listen is Fools Gold (in case you like it, that is), you'll probably find the rest of their back catalogue a bit... mild.
But if you haven't, there are many songs that are great.

A one-off, to me, was this one:

Ulrich

This was a side project of New Order's Peter Hook (great bassline of course). I'd have bought the cd single, but I could not find it, thus I bought the album. Still, this was the only song I really warmed to (not that all others are "bad", but I just couldn't get into them):

I'm walking slowly and quickly, but always away...
