Robert Smith and The Cure have crafted a decades-long career built on emotive, gothic rock: "Lovesong," "Pictures of You," "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea." It's all gloriously dark and dramatic.

It was the happy moments, however, that drew the biggest responses Friday at Toyota Center. The jubilant "Friday I'm in Love" inspired the loudest sing-along of the night. "Just like Heaven," a sweet and simple ode to love, remains one of the all-time best pop songs.
