slipping out my ordinary world, out my ordinary eyes
yeah slipping out the ordinary me into someone else's life
into someone else's life...

by the way i find it just too bad they've stopped playing it live.

Me too, jb.  I think that Watching Me Fall would fit nicely into the spot FTEOTDGS currently occupies.  You know, that midset epic.  :rocker  I suppose Robert has trouble remembering the lyrics to it, though.  And heavens, to remove Deep Green Sea?   Don't get me wrong, I love that one, it's just way overplayed.  Nice to have heard Porl tear it up (and watch his guitar hero moves) on the recent tour, but it still needs to be played less in favor of some other 8 to 11 minute song.

i was thinking exactly the same.
i'm not tired of 'from  the edge of...' either, every time i've heard it live it's been very powerful song and powerful performance.
but alternating it a bit with something else would only boost that, imo.

well, a lot of people can memorize a lot longer texts/lyrics than that on a regular basis. sure it's not the greatest fun ever but it's not that difficult either. it's not some sort of ultimate task that would put you up to the guinness world records or something.
at least that shouldn't be any kind of reason not to play some song (with long lyrics) - or, if it really is the reason, then it only tells that mr smith is a bit lazy, that he can't bother...? i mean, how difficult it really is, to memorize lyrics for a rock/pop song? sure some of them are a bit longer than others and some texts are trickier than others, but it's still nowhere near like memorizing lyrics for a 6-hour opera by richard wagner or something - and people memorize those things too, when/if they just decide to do it.  so....

i think it's almost become sort of myth that robert somehow "must" forget lyrics here and there. well, i don't mind him  occasionally screwing up the lyrics here and there, it's not something that ruins the song for me. but if it's even a remote reason for why they keep playing the same songs over and over again, why they don't introduce some songs to they set - then perhaps he should just sit down and start learning... then it's "back to school robert"!

Have you listened to 'Doing the Unstuck' from San Jose?  He butchers the entire song badly!

My favorite verse:

It's a perfect day for making out
Making out...
...shout
The only thing I can sing is "out"
Let's get happy

Then at the end he says something about how he remembers why they don't do that one.

But you're right, it doesn't ruin the song.  Not at all.  It just makes me laugh that he can get so far off, even having soundchecked the songs they don't do that often.  Too many visits to the drum riser and those red cups I think  ;)

i really hate to say anything like this (so i'll say it very quietly) but i do think it's pretty unprofessional both ways, either not to bother re-memorizing the lyrics before the gig or to simply screw up because you drank too much during the gig...
both excuses are just as bad.
