When I walked through the municipal cemetery in February this year, I saw about a dozen collapsed graves. Another visitor was not far away and we started talking. He put this phenomenon down to the extreme dryness/moisture, at least one of the two. Several have already been filled up again - others have not. It was strange. I'm not usually afraid, but on that day it was a little spooky. My conversation partner knew quite a lot. We soon started talking about historical topics and digressed.

What has happened since then? The leveling continues unabated. Old gravestones are cleared away and some are re-erected somewhere else with up to 24 names. I suspect they are all cremations. On the other hand, there are also places that invite you to pause. So there is a lot going on in the cemetery. It's worth visiting the dead more often.

Six months after the violent death of a 20-year-old following a high school graduation party in the spa gardens of Bad Oeynhausen, the trial against three young men begins this morning (8:30 a.m.). The prosecution accuses the 18-year-old main perpetrator from Bad Oeynhausen of manslaughter, bodily harm and theft to the detriment of a helpless person. The Syrian was accompanied by two 19-year-olds. The two Germans are on trial for grievous bodily harm and receiving stolen goods. They come from Bad Oeynhausen and Staßfurt in Saxony-Anhalt.

I see certain parallels to the case of Torsten Lamprecht in Magdeburg (✝1992), who was recognized as a victim of right-wing violence, but of course the court must decide.

Torsten Lamprecht was 23 years old when he was fatally injured in a targeted attack by N*z* skins on punks in the Magdeburg restaurant "Elbterrassen" late in the evening of May 9, 1992. He died two days after the attack, on May 11, 1992, in hospital from a severe skull fracture without regaining consciousness.

If I had to find a headline for 2024, one would not be enough. Here are three: "Four home visits and a death", "The Life of the others" and "How one is caught up by the past in an uncomfortable way". Let's stay with the few facts. On October 22nd was the last home tour with two older, two younger men and the real estate agent. They complained that they couldn't see all the rooms. At the same time, the purchase offer was removed online. In addition to a displacement of tenants, there is also a displacement by tenants. Now it's official: both houses were sold on January 1st. However, information is scarce. It got to the point where tenants stopped making their monthly payments. Added to that is another death after an already turbulent year. This fits with a conversation I "eavesdropped" yesterday, according to which the city has "given up" on certain residential areas. Possibly ours too. Only newcomers and people who have had to cope with one or more breaks in their lives live there. I was already ready to ask the real estate agent whether they also sell to J*ws. But I didn't want to be that bold. To be continued.

Inspired by bridge construction work nearby (commissioned by the DB), I have a suggestion regarding the Hanover - Berlin route, which was like my "second living room" for about twenty years. It concerns the H - n stop. Only regional trains stop there. The high-speed line runs parallel. Since it is due to be renovated by 2030, I would like to suggest moving this stop 500m to the east. There is already an underpass for pedestrians/cyclists on the north-south axis and a building from the 1930s that, I suspect, was once owned by the German Reichsbahn. Long story short, the current stop is no longer up to date, especially for pedestrians who still have relatives in the village. I have nothing against "old masonry" - quite the opposite, but an architect should take a closer look at this section.

After the new owner presented himself (in writing) on January 17, there are initial indications of a 'soft eviction'. A tenant has to move out on June 1st. Remarkable: she had only moved in in November. Her apartment is the only one to have a separate entrance and not a lower cellar. In our house, on the other hand, it has been easier for the landlord. A tenant died in December and another, already a criminal record, moved out voluntarily. Other tenants want to join this. I want to stay - for now.
