Finally went to pickup this last Friday. My thoughts:

CD1: Except for the version of 'All I Ever Am' (which I would never realise is 'All I Ever Am'), all the rest of the cd is forgettable

CD2: Forgettable. Might give it another try

CD3: Still not listened.

Well I finally got round to buying this! 3CD version for 22,99 Euro (instead of the 2CD for 19,99).

For a moment, I considered not "unpacking" it at all and just sell it later (as it is a "limited" version), but I got too curious and listened to the first CD in the car.
(I got new tyres and the sound they make is different to before; thus I need to "drown this out".)

Got to say I really enjoyed 2 of the tracks: the Paul Oakenfold remix of "I can never say goodbye" (he kept the piano notes from the original, otherwise it seems like a "new" song almost).
The other one I enjoyed was "Alone" (Four Tet remix).

Most other remixes seem to be in the typical "dance/electronic music" fashion of remixes (to my ears, it's not the kind of music I normally listen to).

I only heard a little bit of CD 2 and nothing from CD 3 so far (I really do look forward to the Mogwai remix, as I like Mogwai a lot).

In general, I think it could be good to listen to those during long, boring car drives! (I might have a few of those in August.)

Join me later for more...  :cool

Edit (2x):
After a few more listens (in the car & at home) so far these are my favourites:

I CAN NEVER SAY GOODBYE (Paul Oakenfold 'Cinematic' Remix)
ALONE (Four Tet Remix)
AND NOTHING IS FOREVER (Cosmodelica Electric Eden Remix)
I CAN NEVER SAY GOODBYE (Craven Faults Rework)
ALL I EVER AM (65daysofstatic Remix)
ENDSONG (Mogwai Remix)

If anything, MOALW is making me appreciate SOALW more... Just listened to the whole record again today and found it incredibly compact and cohesive both in terms of sound and lyrics. Used to think A fragile thing and Drone: No drone were weak songs, after listening to the remixes I appreciate the sad/enraged layer of the original which I hadn't noticed previously

Yeah, sometimes it made me wanna listen to the original recordings too. However I was too busy with 3 remix cds... so far.
SOALW is a bit of a "winter album" for me, I listened fanatically between November and March/April. (It was also quite the "soundtrack" to my life, with friends and relatives ill or dying.)

Thus, MOALW is a bit more of a "summer album" for me, some tracks having a bit of a "pop feeling".

At best, the remixes can give you a fresh perspective on a familiar song!

At worst, some can be boring: a few dance beats, distorted vocals and instruments, echo echo echo...

On the whole, for me it was/is interesting to listen to them all. I found out I prefer to listen in the car rather than at home! Good thing I had some drives to do and some more upcoming in early August!
