i don't get this way the german/austrian sales are being arranged, sorry....
Looks like a great venue, but i think i can't go to another Concert. I'll be broke, because i've spent too much money.
Just booked my tickets. Took forever though, the ticket site is utter sh!t.

i already get my tickets:

Vienna is on my 4Tour-travel-route as well :smth001
I had to choose between Munich and Vienna (or is there a possibilty to see both concerts? Any idea how much a flight Vienna-Munich would cost?), but it was an easy one, cause the Gasometer seems to be a kick-ass venue plus I've never been to Vienna.

it sounds so tempting that i think i've just decided on the same... i've heard some kick-ass recordings made at this venue - a few of them come to mind right now. :rocker
besides, it's really pretty small venue too so it's maybe a must since it's closest to the club environment they come to on this tour.
first of all i am from austria.
2000 the cure played at the libro hall, and the made a soundboard recording for fm4.orf.at austrians alternative radio. ( 1998 forestglade festial also recorded for them)
libro hall had only places for 2000 curefans, small exhibition hall with bad sound,
but a fine recording.
the gasometer must be a wonderfull concert area with a lot of flair.
and i hope i can be there......
its a pity that they don´t play strasburg
Pity they don't play Budapest either
Never mind, they might add some more.
I'm seriously considering Rome too
Booking successful.i have 2 tickets :)
very nice service from this austrian ticket agency: "your order has been mailed. the tickets should arrive within a few days". :)
karsten-jahnke guys should watch that and learn...
The Gasometer from inside looks really cool!! 8)
The price for the ticket is â,¬ 49.60, not very cheap i think.
I'm thinking about if i should buy a ticket, but like i said before i think i'll be broke afterwards.
So i have to think about it intimatley.

It's indeed very high price, but still "cheap" compared to what we would pay in Peru to see The Cure: For Roger Waters I payed like â,¬90, and the highest price was like â,¬200. I am sure for our boys would the same :?. Strange things, countries in southamerica aren't that welthy, yet we pay too much for concerts.

i've noticed it's unfortunately it's impossible for me to buy flight tickets via opodo.fr website, one must be from certain european countries only, like france/belgium/italy/switzerland for instance. for other countries it won't work, because the payment address must be in one of the countries on their list.

actually i don't find it so surprising that it's sold out, because after all it's the smallest venue of all in this tour. the gasometer capacity is only 4200. in comparison, some other venues like hamburg colorline arena have a capacity of 15 000+.
i really do like the idea that they are playing smaller venues like this too. but maybe they could have added another date for austria then... but then again, they could have added a date in several other countries too which they are not visiting at all now (hint hint), so....
anyway, 300+ euros per tickets is totally insane. :smth011

looks fantastic!!! looking forward to this show! I´ve got seating tickets, but it will be great!
Really looking forward to this concert.
Thought yesterday's concert in Copenhagen was great but this could be a bit more intimate as it's a smaller venue.
Guys, I just booked my flight, I'm travelling to Europe THIS friday :rocker
It means I will be able to use my Vienna ticket after all! :P
The problem is that I will arrive to Vienna airport around 22.00. In the ticket it says the concert starts at 20.00 (and I know there in Europe the time is the time). This 20.00 means the start of the support band of The Cure show?.
Any idea about how far the venue is from the airport?. I will be in hurry!
This is great you can make it to the Concert in Vienna David :smth023
So here is the link to the Airport Schwechart from Vienna, then click please on the left hand side of the page on the English/US-Flag so that you have the site in English. You can take the train or the bus. I think it's the best if you can arrive at the Westbahnhof and then you can go by the underground, it takes ca. 20 min to the station "Gasometer. By the way the train will take ca. 25 min and the airport bus will take ca. 25 - 30 min. It's a little bit long, sorry.
So here are the links from the airport and from the public transport:

I hope i could help you a little bit David. If you have some questions, please don't hesitate to ask me okay :)
Thanks for the directions Doris :smth023
An important matter for me is to know when The Cure show starts. Cause in the ticket it says 20.00, but I don't know if this means The Cure or the support band show. Any idea?

Guys, I just booked my flight, I'm travelling to Europe THIS friday :rocker
It means I will be able to use my Vienna ticket after all! :P
this is excellent david!! wow.. glad everything worked out. :smth023
Maybe we can just call up Robert & co. and tell them that they have to wait until you arrive at the venue... ;)
You're welcome David :)
On my ticket stand also beginning at 20.00 p.m. and i think the support band beginns at that time and then the Cure will come on stage :)
By the way: Please don't buy a ticket, because you can use the concert ticket as a ticket to go by underground to the Gasometer and back to Westbahnhof. It's written on the ticket and also on the back side (unfortunately it's in German):)
as far as i got all that... the cure starts at 20.00 on weekdays and on 21.00 on weekends... that means 21.00 in vienna... so! be there as fast as you can!! :smth026 :smth079

Those are nice news!..I will miss part of the show, but then it looks like I will enjoy the best part!...Hope I get it there before they play Push!!!!!!
By the way altought it will be crowd, it will be easy to recognized me:
-I am small
-I don't look european
-I will wear a Curefans.com shirt :rocker
So see you there people!!!

The problem is that I will arrive to Vienna airport around 22.00. In the ticket it says the concert starts at 20.00 (and I know there in Europe the time is the time). This 20.00 means the start of the support band of The Cure show?.
hey that's good news but you must hurry from the airport!
both hamburg and berlin tickets said the concert will start at 20.00. i thought this meant the time that the support band will start, but at least in hamburg the support started already at 19.00 so 20.00. meant the cure. yet in berlin they started a bit later, it was well past 8 pm before the cure started, around 20.30(?) i think. at least the support wasn't on yet at 19.00 in berlin. but in hamburg they were, i'm sure of this because i was so surprised they started so early(!).
so let's hope they'll be delayed because of some techincal matters there in gasometer and will be starting late, for your sake. ;)
but you must take the fastest taxi you can find!

Babe, you make me worried about this. I thought (like lacrima mosa) said, that they would start at 21.00. But my flight arrives at 22.05 to Wien airport, until we get out of there, find a car, etc. I think I will be in Gasometer by 23.00. So if they start at 21.00, they will finish at 00.00 so one hour concert would be worth to do it. But if they start at 20.00 or 20.30, then I will see maybe just 30 minutes or maybe NOTHING!
We need to take a decision asap, as the tickets are booked, but not payed yet! (we have to pay tomorrow). So any suggestions are welcome!
Btw, any idea about how much a taxi is from the airport to Gasometer? In Peru such distance would cost no more than 5 euro :-D
But in Vienna it must be very expensive! Any clue? :?

yes i know... sorry if i make you worried, but i wouldn't want you to travel all the way and then be late. :|
like said, i was quite surprised the support started at 19.00 in hamburg because we were expecting them to start at 20.00.
berlin seemed like there were some delays or they weren't even trying to be so punctual(?) - i really don't know which one was true. i know that in berlin the gates opened later too and we had to queue longer than in hamburg so maybe the venue/stage wasn't ready by the time it was supposed to be.
i do hope lacrima is right... but it would be better to secure this info from somewhere first, i think.
all i can say now is that i've been to three different shows, two shows of these were on saturdays, and the cure did start earlier than 21.00. :!:
i just don't know where it is/was stated that the shows on weekends would start later. :?:
but i hope it's true!
is there any way to check the starting times directly from gasometer? any contact info there or anything? maybe they do have regular opening times there or something? then again, the cure will play 3+ hours which is a lot longer than most bands. this also might mean they simply cannot start very late.

Not need to say sorry, I appreciate your advice. I just don't want to be in hurry for nothing (cause my wife and me could go to Europe on monday, with no hurries). So basically we would go on friday for The Cure. Unfortunately I just learned today that I could travel from friday (cause I was expecting some confirmation about some personal matters).

Ok guys, finally I won't make it. We don't want to be in hurry and there are many things to do here in Peru yet (as buying some souvenirs for the friends ;). Plus, the girl who booked our ticket yesterday cancelled it (she was suposse to wait us for payement till 17.00)
So finally we are travelling on monday 25th, arrive to Vienna on 26th, then go to Presov (Slovakia) the same day. However, I will definitely be in Paris, I will be there from 10th march (travelling from Bratislava to Paris by cheap US$39!). By the way, the Lima - Vienna - Ticket was 1060US$ (around 731 euro!), which is a good price I think.
Too bad that I can't make to Vienna, but shit happens. To everyone going there, I just wish you a nice time :smth023
ps: I will be reporting with Jakso from Praha tonight.
By the way, thanks to silversand, japanesebaby and lacrima mosa for the tips. Hopefully I can meet some of you in Paris :!:
Oh, what a pity :( I'm sorry that you can't make it to Vienna David.
I wish you a good flight and good trip to Slovakia and take care of yourself, okay :)
Of course have a great time at the concert in Paris :)
All the best

HAVE A GREAT GREAT NIGHT GUYS!!!!! :smth023 :rocker
to all going; have a wicked night!! :smth020
and I hope david gets there safely!!
To everyone that will be following the live updates today...I will be receiving texts from japanesebaby during the show. However, depending on what I am doing today, I may not be able to post what has been played in the first post of this thread.
If I am at home, it will be business as usual and the setlist will be in the first thread. If I am out with the family, then I will do the updates via my mobile phone. However, in some tests that I ran yesterday, when I post via mobile, I cannot edit previous posts. That eliminates me from being able to add it to the first post of the thread, or even to add it to a post that I previously did.
So, in the worst case, the set list will be posted here in many posts, one after the other. Then, when I get home, I'll clean it up (or if lostflower4 is available, maybe he can clean it up as I post...). Either way, the setlist will be posted here, although it may get a bit sloppy, and my apologies in advance for this!
:smth023 that's ok Jeff> is there not anyone else who can do this, or help?

i wish you all a wonderfull concert !!!!!!!!!!!!!
how long does that cover band drag on for?? :smth090
ok guys,
i will do this.
:-D
i will put the songs on the first thread.
Tempted with Same Deep Waters, and so far, it's very much the standard set for this tour. :(
i need to agree.
i really don't like it.
and to me, they should play Never Enough OR Wrong Number...
never both!
is there any word on the atmosphere, or how they are sounding in the venue?
not yet, i'll post the comments as soon as they arrive.
Yes. Olivier's 4tour site says "the crowd is really great but security is pretty annoying, preventing people from dancing/standing up in the seated area constantly"
I just had a thought that a Same Deep Waters, Prayers for Rain, Disintegration encore would be great!

man... they did that to me in Melbourne!! :smth011
Encores coming up!
is it first time they've done Shiver and Shake i believe
On the Euro leg, yes it's the first. As I recall it was a regular on the Australasia leg.
in melb., we got shiver & shake, but no At Night.
Never Enough, FTEOTDGS then Wrong Number, 100 years, S &S, end.
definately sounds like a 17 seconds encore..
~edit~ we didn't get one song from 17 seconds.. ( my fav.)
~edit2~ they've dropped the pop encore? :smth045
let's hope so. :-D
i hope they won't close with Why Can't I Be You?
okay, this 2nd encore.. :smth023
3rd encore.. will it be a faith? :-D
it looks like it's over
:smth011
-not confirmed yet-
looking forwad to the Rome gig....
....are you ready Labirinth?
Thanks to Marco for helping to clean up this thread, and to Marika for the setlist!
it's over then? :(
thanks marco!! :-D
and to marika for another night of nail-biting !! :smth023
~edit~ ..i just read 'the corset and stockings bit' !!??
how many members are going thru a midlife crisis ?
thank YOU J, for your hard work !!! ;)
Marco
Thanks for with relay updates again folks, I've been really enjoying them each time - reliving the Sydney and Melbourne concerts. :D
Also - why is there so much dislike of the pop encore? I guess for those who go to a lot of concerts it might start to get old, but I remember how excited the crowd was in Aus for the pop songs and how exceptionally fun that made it.
no, the problem isn't the pop encore :-D
it's the fact they play it every night, and always the same songs!!! :-D
For those who heard the soundcheck, what was The Same Deep Water As You like? Was Porl playing the keyboards parts on guitar or was there "under the stage" "behind the scenes" karaoke synth thing playing Roger's part?
THE SAME DEEP WATER AS YOU!!!!!
:smth055 :smth055 :smth055
My all time favourite curesong!!!!! I would have never thought they played it again!!! It must be in the italian setlists, PLEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!! :smth026
I guess they're just making sure that the Faith encore stays special should they get around to playing it.
I'm really loving the playlists even if some changes to the encores would be nice for those seeing multiple shows. Also for my entertainment watching the updates. :-D Though the old school encore works so well with each song flowing into the next and building the energy that it's hard to suggest that it should be removed or mixed up. Is it the same with the Seventeen Seconds encore?
Lady,
actually it wasn't played. :-D
it was maybe in the soundcheck...
and i really don't know how they were doing it without keyboards !!!!! :?

I just came back from Vienna. The concert was very good.
The Gasometer isn't big, the sound was good and loud :). Robert was chatty.
The setlist was good so nothing to complain about it.
Now i'm tired. I'm really looking forward to the concert tomorrow in Munich.
Can't wait!!!
Yes, you're right Steve Porl was awesome yesterday!. I also don't understand why some people slag Porl off.
Fuc*ing amazing show!!!! with lost of surprises, Robert´s perfect mood although he has a little problem with sound on the stage... look at this video of "lullaby"

and... few photos from my friend Martin here (http://www.thecure.sk/gallery/index.php?ordner=.%2F2008_Vienna&one=single+pic&bild=1&single=0&page=0).

i think the audience was the chatty one there - a bit too much, really.
gasometer seems to be a very nice arena indeed, i was really expecting a lot from the gig once i was inside and saw the place - yet yet imo the floor section was way too packed with people, most of whom also seemed to bea bit too drunk even before the concert started. hmm. to be honest i wouldn't have minded being on the balcony in this gig, imo it wasn't really pleasant in the floor section at all times. i don't mind people reacting to the show or exchanging comments between songs or anything and i don't wish that people stand like half-dead statues or anything, but it kind of starts pissing me off a bit when there's someone shouting something straight into you ear every five seconds from left and right and back and forth. mostly even things that are completely unrelated to the performance.
a bit more free space left on the floor section would have been a really good idea, imo.
thanks for the great pics!! In the ones monghi has posted, I love number 5...and in number 8, it looks like Robert was looking STRAIGHT at the photographer!
well done, everyone!!
Gasometer is probably the best all-around venue i've been to regularly. Great show, I enjoyed it a lot :smth023

Yes, the audience was chatty. And some were drunk before the show started.
What wasn't good was that people in front of me jump a little bit too enthusiastic. I have nothing against someone who dances at concerts, but that was too much. And i stood at the beginning and inbetween like a sardines in the can.
This was my impression. Once some people hustled. I don't like that also when some are shouting in my ear.
There were two Germans, no Cure Fans, talked about the band. It wasn't positive.
One of them said, that a co-worker of him was a Cure Fans and that she is happy now that she got ride of the band. That sounded to me that the band is let me say a sickness, virus or a really bad thing. And they found it strange that fans travel to the concerts in different city. It sounded so.
I've asked myself, why do they go to a Cure Concert with this attitude.
Would've been better if they didn't buy a ticket. The two very really strange :)
Anyway, they couldn't spoil my mood :D
Thanks for the pictures everyone :)
Thanks for the youtube link monghi :)
there were these two hysterically screaming (and pretty drunk) teenage girls who stumbled right next to me towards the end of the 65dos set. oh god they were a pain... how can some people scream so loud? and even if you can, why do it?? please have some mercy...
anyway, i made sure i had moved pretty far away from them after 65dos finished. then about 15 minutes before the cure started, who suddenly appeared on my left? oh, these two brainless girls - so i quickly had to try and move again... i went almost to the other side of the audience because of them, just to make sure i'm nowhere near them because they were honestly driving me mad, sorry! since the floor was pretty packed with people, it was not so easy to find a new good spot... i managed though - or i thought i had managed. because about two minutes into 'open', just guess who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, screaming and yelling and jumping (and bumping into everyone around them) exactly next to me on my left? :(
again, i had to make a run... which was even more difficult because the show was already on and there was even less room to move in the audience... damn that was annoying! it really took me a couple of songs to recover from this....
like i said, i've nothing against people having fun out there, but stupidity is just pure stupidity, unfortunately.

Oh, i'm sorry japanesebaby. Such a experience can ruin the concert.
Behind me there were some drunk fans and that wasn't amusing at all.
But your thing is really bad. Poor girl :(

that's really weird, because on my way to the airport i grabbed one austrian newspaper which had a short review of the gig. it said that the band started the gig with 'prayers for rain' and played for instance 'plainsong' and 'disintegration'. huh did they really? i wonder where i was during those songs...
i wonder what concert all these reviewers really went to - mayeb there was a secret show afterwards or something...? or maybe none of them was even there...

maybe he had a wrong playlist from the record company, or he thinks plainsong is prayers for rain
Quote from: drowning on February 26, 2008, 19:00:14
or he thinks plainsong is prayers for rain
yeah but they didn't play either 'plainsong' or 'prayers for rain'...
i can understand that reviewers can't be expected to know ALL the music in the world and that sometimes they have to review concerts from bands they don't really know that well at all. anyway i'm still extremely annoyed by this sort of mistakes because they are amateurish - it makes the reviewer look like the guy either
1) don't know a shit
2) wasn't even there
thus it makes the whole act of reviewing totally ridiculous.
and the reviewer still gets paid for writing all that anyway so...
i'm not pissed about reading bad reviews or bashing comments IF the writer has something to back it up with, to proof his words/his opinion.
but i freaking hate reviews that are just full or plain and simple errors!
like i said, amateurish! if a guy gets paid for writing reviews for a paper/magazine then he should try at least to get the facts right!

Yes, that weird. Maybe the reviewer hadn't got the setlist. But i didn't hear the holy hour, friday i'm in love or prayers for rain. I'm wondering where he got it from. That is one of the reasons why i normally don't read reviews of a concert from the press.

there were these two hysterically screaming (and pretty drunk) teenage girls who stumbled right next to me towards the end of the 65dos set. oh god they were a pain... how can some people scream so loud? and even if you can, why do it?? please have some mercy...
anyway, i made sure i had moved pretty far away from them after 65dos finished. then about 15 minutes before the cure started, who suddenly appeared on my left? oh, these two brainless girls - so i quickly had to try and move again... i went almost to the other side of the audience because of them, just to make sure i'm nowhere near them because they were honestly driving me mad, sorry! since the floor was pretty packed with people, it was not so easy to find a new good spot... i managed though - or i thought i had managed. because about two minutes into 'open', just guess who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, screaming and yelling and jumping (and bumping into everyone around them) exactly next to me on my left? :(
again, i had to make a run... which was even more difficult because the show was already on and there was even less room to move in the audience... damn that was annoying! it really took me a couple of songs to recover from this....
like i said, i've nothing against people having fun out there, but stupidity is just pure stupidity, unfortunately.
Oh, i'm sorry japanesebaby. Such a experience can ruin the concert.
Behind me there were some drunk fans and that wasn't amusing at all.
But your thing is really bad. Poor girl :(
I really hope the next concert you will attend will be great and you can enjoy it!!!
let's hope so!
by the way, even robert commented the chatty/babbling audience: before 'at night' he said "what the f*** is this talking that goes on? ...seriously, what is it?".
huh.
wien is a nice city and i'd like to visit there again but it might be on my list of "don't go to concerts in these cities" now...
anyway!

I can't remember that Robert commented it.
I will definitely visit Wien again someday, because it's not too far away from my hometown. It's really a nice city.
Haven't been there since Christmas 1995. There are many things to see.
Yes, maybe it's better not to go to a concert in this city.
But i have to say, if The Cure will play there again, maybe i will become weak and buy a ticket :) Who knows :)
Thanks for the links japanesebaby :)

well, to clear things up:
robert wasn't reffering to the audience ... that "talking" came out of some speakers on simon's side of the stage.

i think robert was referring to some strange noise coming out of a monitor box.
he and simon were irritated by it since the beginning of the show.
that's the way i comprehended.

sorry the audio in that clip is so bad i can't make much out of it. i've listened to a good audio source of that and even there it's still difficult to translate all that he's saying (why does robert have to mumble all the time when he speaks!).
anyway, i don't get why he would use the word "talking" if he just meant some kind of noise. and he did say "talking". and i don't get it how there could have been any talking coming out of any of the monitors, really.

it must be some kind of noise that sounded like mumbling...
i'm quite sure he meant the monitors on the side. he pointed at that direction as well...
Lots and lots of ad-libbing on Play For Today. Interesting, but I wish Robert would've saved it for Faith or Forever.

actually i was originally only slightly from your left (but i made sure i wouldn't end up pushed behind you, god forbid! :-P). then these lovely screaming fanatics arrived right next to me, like i mentioned above... that's why i had to run... only to find out that they actually followed me. they must have been stalking me or something!

During the MSG show he was commenting on how clearly he speaks, but then he reads on the internet that people say he mumbles.
Robert, are you listening? You mumble when you talk into the mic. I have PLENTY of proof.
