perhaps..... according to this article....

would be a complete crap choice for a name - besides DM used it already!

Exactly. That would be definiltely NOT a good choice.

I don't trust any "news" like this anymore. Besides, the article also claims that no new material has been played during this tour.
totally agree. I wonder where these journalists come up with this stuff then... ???

One thing is that Robert is known to lie (or simply joke) about various things, and people take it as fact.
Also, I think sometimes people completely just make stuff up to make themselves sound important. :?
good joke with that title... in my opinion of course
new album "Ultra" :smth043 :smth005

WHO KNOWS WHAT ROBERT SAID AND WHAT THE JOURNALIST HEARD...
:-D
reminds me of a story: a few years back this rather well-known journalist for our local newspaper was supposed to review one concert. the poor man was feeling "sort of lazy" that evening and didn't bother going to the concert at all - but he still had to write a review for it, as it was his job. and so, he did write it anyway - without going to the show of course... and the next day, the review was published... he was thinking "so far so good, nobody will notice anything... " but then he noticed that the concert had actually been cancelled altogether: so there never had been any concert at all - but strangely enough, now there was a review of it in the day's paper, already printed and published... ooops!
needless to say: that journalist got fired.
maybe that's what happened here too... :-D
Regarding the new album, I don't truly believe anything until it shows up on the official. Especially when I'm expected to swallow that they're naming it Ultra.

It was a nothing paragraph in the events bit. I read it quickly in work today & didn't even notice 'ultra.' The guy was filling space. Similar to The Sunday Times this week, claiming the band did 16 encores in Rome on this tour. Yeah right.

...and to the austrian press which claimed that the gig in wien started with 'prayers for rain', that they played 'disintegration' and 'plainsong' - one other paper claimed they played 'holy hour' there too...
sure.
sooorrrrryy i even posted this, it's obviously a bullshite article. I was just really bored this morning........but wouldn't it be funny if ended up be called ultra....ultra LAME. ha

hey no need to be sorry at all - if we're commenting something then it's the article, and not you. after all you did offer us food for thought/discussion, so we really should have said thank you for the link!
(here's some good karma for you ;))
Any post that generates loads of replies & bit of debate is good. I think people were just upset with the prospect of the name 'ultra!'
Ultra, sounds more like another weird Blank & Jones re-re-re-do extra, dance/techno, collabarotional version of a Forest :?
To me at least :-D
aw, thanks for the karma!
I was sorta half joking about being sorry, but I'm still a newb here so I don't want to start out my first post with something totally lame, I'm just glad I found this place cause nobody in my real life wants to talk about the cure...ever, and thats about all I think, dream, listen, and talk about!! hah. But nevertheless I really don't care what the new album is going to be named, I just want to hear it!!!!!!!! :smth020
:-D that article is a good joke, of course - rather than turning to Depeche for inspiration, why not turn to New Order... one could call the album Low-Point...
Hmmm, This doesn't sound like a title that The Cure would use in my opinion......It just doesn't gel. When you look at the titles of all their previous albums "Ultra" seems non cure.
I thought that they might have played something different for their last show at Wembley. Bummer.... they seem lack lustre, like they can't be bothered.......wonder what sort of setlist we can expect in USA?
Chris..NZ
It's true that 'Ultra' doesn't sound like a cure album title but I was stunned as well whith the last one they made up, I never expected that to happen to so.. Who knows.
Though still I hope they won't call it Ultra :-D

Ultra- I like the name!!!!! Why should Robert give a shit about any old Depeche Mode album? ;)

well, considering what a pretty crappy album DM's ultra was, it would be sort of good if somebody made a good album by the same name - maybe it would help most people to forget that DM thing...
anyway, i still wouldn't like that name. DM associations or not, it just somehow doesn't sound cure-ish to me.

Yeah, I don't like this name and neither the association with depeche mode: "ultra" is a good album, but I have a sort of "antipathy" for that band...

Oh don't, you're missing stuff I tell you! Like 101, it's a great live album, very raw energy to it (Stripped, Behind the Wheel, Things You Said, that's the stuff). Martin Gore is a fab songwriter. I feel The Cure and Depeche Mode go pretty much hand in hand, actually, and quite well at that. Also, Robert covered World in My Eyes for Join The Dots...perhaps not so well, but he likes the band too, and his opinion settles basically anything, doesn't it? :smth045 :smth043
Anyway, I noticed this afternoon that the words "ultra moisturizing" are written on my soap...now that's my only association to that word...as well as disco dance records.
Raised up sounds a bit unsettlingly "disco dance-ish" too...Oh well, their album titles are usually good and fitting. I'm not worried...
:smth087
"4 Imaginary Boys"
They always come full circle. ;)
I don't like Ultra for a Cure album; :smth011 considering this name I prefer 4:13 that was the first possible name mentioned for this album
but the name is not important for me; I only expect a great album :smth023

I agree about everything!
4:13 is a nice title for me...don't know why, but I like it! :-D
But, as you say, the most important thing is the
quality of the album and not the title or the cover...and I have the sensation that we'll have a great album!!! :smth023

Unlucky thirteen, ey? Oh well. Sounds a tad gloomy. Would be nice to see the album cover so you could make more sense of the title...

and it says release date will probably be in July.....of THIS year!
Anyways, i don't really care what the title is, its the content that matters
and it says "april phoolz"... ?
If the album is titled 4:13, I'll carve "ULTRA" into the CD with a knife.
If the album's art is even remotely similar to the 4:13 artwork, I'll get a new favorite band.

I dont like 4:13. If you google it as a bible paragraph it means "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Not sure that is what the album should be called. :? I am more for just 13 (although that is already also used by die Ã,,rzte) and I dont like Ultra as is is so closely related to DM.
damn that Craig and his april fools joke.... haha... that's not nice to mess with cure fans like that!
