Man, I wish I would have posted this yesterday, because then you'd believe me...
But yesterday I predicted that the USA vs. England game was going to end in a 1-1 tie.
My reasoning? These teams seemed pretty evenly matched, and soccer is a pretty low scoring game, so...
Ah, soccer. :smth015
I was so pissed about yesterday's match (England 1:1 USA). That bloody goal to Robert Green was so horrible and shameful
Huh, do you remember Beckham's face after Green's mistake?

England attacked a lot but the US goalkeeper did an awesome job. I think the US have a great team and they're improving every year.
Interesting article at the New York Times about yesterday's match

The best of the World Cup so far... ;)
Nederland Denemarken Bavaria Babes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7Ih7hPTn4w#)
i don't even follow the world cup but if asked i'd say i'll root for england as an old habit.
or i'd be happy to see any northern european team to qualify as high as possible.
If I'm not mistaken, I think the Germany vs. Australia game was the only one so far where each team has scored more than one goal. :?: Most games have been 1-0, and I've seen a fair amount 0-0 scores too. Sounds thrilling! :P
And then couple all that with this great new phenomenon:
The Vuvuzela - Legendary Horn! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrYb9qtO8OQ#)
About 5 seconds of that drives me insane, and then it gets stuck in my head for much longer than that! :smth096

A high score does not necesarily means a good game or vice versa. The 4 - 0 from Germany against Australia was certanly not a better game than the 1 - 1 from England and USA.
The best game of the last world cup was Germany - Italy (0 - 2) Both goals made near the 120' mark.

i know. but singing chants is an international thing, something that all the players alike have gotten used to.
all the world's top players travel to south africa from all over the world and it's their games too, not something put up for the general public. i'd think it would be more important to try to make the conditions as good as possible for the players to do their best on the field. so if the players say they are bothered by these horns and that it interferes their concentration on the field, then why not respect the players wish?
just because something is part of some local culture doesn't mean it's cool for all people and everyone has to like it - and these are international games, not south african championships.
but obviously people there don't care one bit if the players have it comfortably or not. which is pretty odd to me...

and seriously, no offense but "most important event in the planet"? how about the wars and famines and people dying in hunger and malnutrition and in wars all over the world right when we speak? or the environment getting destroyed and species dying out? some sort of sport is more important than that? and because "it shows celebrities"?

I would really like to know... Of all the people talking shit about American football, how many people have actually played it? I don't mean tossing a ball around in the street or something, but actually playing in an organized competitive environment?
I've played both "football" (soccer) and American football. One year of soccer was all I could tolerate, I found it to be so dead boring. On the other hand, I didn't get to make out with any of my teammates or anything like that - so perhaps I was missing some of the key aspects. ;)
But I did play American football for many years, and it was the best sport I ever played. Of course, this is all personal experience which leads to personal opinions, but I'd bet that 95% of people who knock on the sport have never even played it.

World Cup fans warned: Vuvuzela could damage your hearing
South African football fans' instrument of choice, the vuvuzela, has already caused controversy ahead of the World Cup with authorities concerned that their excessive volume could prevent people from hearing announcements should a stadium need to be evacuated. Now, new tests have shown that the instrument is so loud it poses a more immediate health risk to fans and players.
The vuvuzela was found to emit an ear piercing noise of 127 decibels - louder than a lawnmower (90 dB) and a chainsaw (100 dB). Extended exposure at just 85 decibels puts us at a risk of permanent noise induced hearing loss. When subjected to 100 dB or more, hearing damage can occur in just 15 minutes.approaching 130 dbs and still it's allowed - because it's "south african culture". :?
i wouldn't want to be in the audience with people making 120+ db noise around me. say goodbye to your hearing...

No need to say sorry :D You're right it's exciting ;)
It just amazing how the whole world is in the ban about this world cup. The whole world looks so small, all the different culture, people ... most off the time the players can't really communicate with eachother ...
And then the sound off the vuvuzela's, amazing that people doing this the whole time :D
They just say on TV that there is a production off vuvuzela's in China about 250.000 ex/day

Bill Clinton: World Cup Made Me Scream, Yell, Lose My Voice
"Clinton said Thursday that he changed his schedule so he can attend the Americans' game against Ghana on Saturday in Rustenburg. The honorary chairman of the U.S. bid to host the World Cup in either 2018 or 2022, Clinton was in the stands for Wednesday's thrilling 1-0 victory against Algeria that sent the United States on to the round of 16. He then spent more than an hour in the locker room celebrating with the team"

YouTube videos, now featuring the vuvuzela
(AFP) – 5 hours ago
WASHINGTON — Because you just can't get enough of the vuvuzela, YouTube users can now listen to videos on the site accompanied by the trumpet's persistent buzz.
A soccer ball icon has begun appearing on some videos on YouTube which, when clicked, emits the swarm of bees sound that has come to be associated with the World Cup in South Africa. Clicking on the ball turns the vuvuzela buzz off.
World Cup organizers have rejected calls for a ban on the trumpets, whose incessant droning has been criticized by some players and fans.
A YouTube spokeswoman told AFP the vuvuzela button had been added "in the spirit of the World Cup and the fervour that has gripped YouTube office." She said it would remain until the World Cup final on July 11.
i am so proud that a player with turkish roots shot the goal that brought germany to the second phase!!!!!

Well, it "seems" nice... But seriously, you would think the U.S. had just won the whole tournament, judging by the reactions there.
This was just a preliminary game, so what's the big deal? Or does the U.S. suck at soccer so much that anything good is considered amazing? Hmmm... I think I might have just answered my own question.
Anyway, the hillbilly at 2:46 and the spaz-guy at 3:25 were pretty entertaining.

but as so often before, what a boring final! not great football at all and full of dirty tricks - the amount of cards  even the fans were so silent, not much cheering - did everybody choke on their vuvuzela or what? i almost fell asleep during the game and was pissed that it went over time since it was so boring to watch (sorry).
the bronze game was so much better. imo that was a sort of "moral finale" of the tournament. it was an action-filled and situation changed a lot and it changed fast. and there were lots of goals too - not 1-0 like every game by spain seems to be at max ). and snejder and david villa were just pale figures compared to müller and forlán, the real stars of the tournament.

so the way i consider it, germany won, uruguay was second and then the rest. 8)
Indeed the first half of the final was very boring. It became better on the second half and the extra time. I guess teams don't try to risk too much at this level of the tournement. My favourite matchs of the World Cup were
Cameroon - Denmark / Uruguay - Ghana / England - USA / Italy - Slovakia
The Cameroon - Denmark was a round-trip match, very intense until the last second. It was just amazing. Too bad both teams were eliminated on the first round :?

THE MAGICAL MADNESS OF DIEGO MARADONA
"I prefer women. I am dating Veronica, she is 31, she is blonde and she is beautiful. No, I've not gone limp-wristed! But I like to acknowledge and congratulate my players when they play as well as they did today."
- Diego responds to an innocent inquiry about his tendency to pat the bottoms of his players with the most convoluted 'you're gayer than I am!' retort in recorded history.
"Many journalists should apologise to the players. I'm not suggesting you drop your trousers, but it would be honest and great so we all get along better."
– For a someone so resolutely straight, Maradona's comments follow an interesting pattern.
indeed...
