The world cup is definitely the most important event in the world at the minute! Not only does it show some of the worlds most fascinating celebrities (at least they do something unlike all these shitty reality tv stars walking about) it brings so many different countries together! When else do you see the communist north koreans chilling out and kicking a ball with probably the most meterosexual hedonist on the planet (cristiano ronaldo)!

I've recently talked to many people from all over the world and some common ground that brought as all together was the world cup!

As for american football! If i need to watch some juiced up wannabes with no stamina then i'll watch porn.

x

words indeed. like said before, i'm no american football fan either - but porn? hey surely soccer is a lot more like it then:
http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6774.msg70001.html#msg70001

i mean soccer can be pretty damn embarrassing in this respect. i actually used to like the game itself back in the 80s but i wish they'd concentrate on what they are being paid for and show luv luv luv towards each other somewhere outside the camera...
lol

and seriously, no offense but "most important event in the planet"? how about the wars and famines and people dying in hunger and malnutrition and in wars all over the world right when we speak? or the environment getting destroyed and species dying out? some sort of sport is more important than that? and because "it shows celebrities"?
no offense really - but come on.
surely sport can be fun but it's no reason for not keeping things in perspective.

talking about keeping things in perspective, this topic is about the World Cup 2010, if anyone wants to talk about anything else or talk about how soccer sucks, you can create a new topic 8)

I would really like to know... Of all the people talking shit about American football, how many people have actually played it?  I don't mean tossing a ball around in the street or something, but actually playing in an organized competitive environment?

I've played both "football" (soccer) and American football. One year of soccer was all I could tolerate, I found it to be so dead boring. On the other hand, I didn't get to make out with any of my teammates or anything like that - so perhaps I was missing some of the key aspects.  ;)

But I did play American football for many years, and it was the best sport I ever played. Of course, this is all personal experience which leads to personal opinions, but I'd bet that 95% of people who knock on the sport have never even played it.

That's just an ignorant statement, magicsteve. I trained so hard for that sport it wasn't even funny. Sadly, I eventually got burned out and gave it up for some less respectable things...

The only sport I ever tried worse than soccer was wrestling. Smelly, sweaty guys all groping each other non-stop (even more than soccer). Ummmm...

yes, and the very same thing could be said about posts saying "hooray!" whenever someone says american football sucks, don't you think? so:

WORDS!

so why not start your own topic "american football sucks!" too. 8)

let's talk about world cup 2010 by all means. let's just leave the mutual shit throwing/ making posts which only purpose is to make stingy comments out of it, ok?
i even watched two games yesterday night so i'm following the event. i just don't feel like agreeing it's the most important thing in the world. it's just entertainment and a big business, nothing more than that.

World Cup fans warned: Vuvuzela could damage your hearing

South African football fans' instrument of choice, the vuvuzela, has already caused controversy ahead of the World Cup with authorities concerned that their excessive volume could prevent people from hearing announcements should a stadium need to be evacuated. Now, new tests have shown that the instrument is so loud it poses a more immediate health risk to fans and players.

The vuvuzela was found to emit an ear piercing noise of 127 decibels - louder than a lawnmower (90 dB) and a chainsaw (100 dB). Extended exposure at just 85 decibels puts us at a risk of permanent noise induced hearing loss. When subjected to 100 dB or more, hearing damage can occur in just 15 minutes.

approaching 130 dbs and still it's allowed - because it's "south african culture". :?
i wouldn't want to be in the audience with people making 120+ db noise around me. say goodbye to your hearing...

"I hear about people walking around in soccer jerseys on the street, talking about the World Cup," said an astonished Landon Donovan, discussing the unprecedented football fever taking hold in the USA.

Finally the USA is seduced by the most passionate sport in the World

yes they didn't. they were a bunch of divas who didn't even want to play, preferred sitting on their tour bus and be "on strike" - who could really take that kind of team seriously?   i found it really hilarious
