well........ who would have thought that sheep and cattle emit so much bad air?? Trust us Aussies to come up with that solution!! Sounds reasonable, when you stop laughing and read it again..
We have eaten kangaroo, several times, it's very nice, no fat, no cholesterol and not "gamey" tasting at all..
I marinate it, cut it into cubes, thread it onto skewers with some capsicum and onion and cook it quickly on the bbq...it gets taken before the sausages...which I hasten to add I HATE (mystery bags...never know what's in 'em) or anything else. Even the kids ate it when they were younger, although I didn't tell them what it was until AFTER they had devoured it...People just have to get past the cute image they have of 'roos in their minds.... baby cows and lambs are pretty cute too, but lots of people eat them!!

Thank you J ~  Very interesting indeed

I just hope this doesnt end in another 'mad cow' like thing, Although mad cow was brought on by feeding cows meat pellets= stupid...

This way is a more reasonable idea to transfer the bacteria. I have seen the studies on this where they actually had hoses connected to cows
noses and mouths- apparently their burps are bad aswell.
I wonder if they will one day create a cow x Kangaroo - genetically modified. ?   I dont know how a cows gut (all 3 guts) will adjust to this.

Maybe i have already adjusted myself, as my possum and i kiss, she licks my nostrils while iam asleep.
Wondered why my farts dont stink    :smth050

I have possum at home, (free- but raised by me) and her farts never smell, i imagine its a similar bacteria, being marsupial, In the morning
she actually smells like warm fresh bread~ yum smell-  Although i would never consider eating her, My personal choice not to eat meat, and
dont mind other people doing what is right for them  :smth023  this way right for me, thats all.
Dont want to start any vege/meat debate, accepting is the key.... anyway back to subject...

I have heard that around 70% of world grain is actually fed to cattle.  And alot of the world is starving,  Crazy.

Like this pic that was with story, the pouch baby so cute  :D

scatcat

yeah.. I missed it. T'was in yesterday's paper..

Kangaroo farts= no methane.  :smth080
Cattle and sheep = lots of methane= greenhouse gases.  :smth092
14% of all methane gases in Australia come from cattle & sheep!!  :smth086
New Zealand is up to around 70%  :smth011

so.. if they put the bacteria from skippy's tummy into cattle & sheep, they won't fart harmful gases and DESTROY the world!!  :smth100

YES!! to all of those Curefans who think we have kangaroos in our backyards.. well.. we don't  :P

Solution= just eat more kangaroos, less cattle and sheep , and we will be world leaders in reducing greenhouse gases!!   :smth091 :smth086 :smth087

I read a book on the subject a few years ago...
Beyond Beef by Jeremy Rifkin.
Fascinating book, but also very frightening!!
Makes you really worry about the future of the planet... :smth073

I have always been scared sh*tless of cows!   Grew up around a family farm, going back 3 generations... LOVE snakes, Kangaroos, sheep, possies.. but cows scare the hell out of me.. ?? It could be because I was once chased by the Bull, after being told NOT to go NEAR the Bull!!??   (ahh kids don't listen)  :smth023

Thanks for the link j :)
Very interesting article.

Unfortunately cattles produce menthane too :(
I didn't know that Kangaroos do it.
These are really nice animals. So i would never ever eat it.

So tonight at 08.00 p.m. i will switch the light off for 5 minutes.
Everyone in Germany is called up to do it :)
I hope we will not have a blackout.

I get very edgy around cows too, but maybe it's meat-eater guilt.
Besides, they're so darn BIG.

Let us know how it goes, I'm always curious to know if a lot of people support these initiatives.

I think you may have mis-understood the article...kangaroos don't emit the methane gasses that sheep and cattle do..that's why they are talking about placing the bacteria from the 'roos stomach into the sheep and cattle digestive systems.... hope that clears it up a bit for you... :smth020
( I wonder if they can do the same for my dogs...  :smth010 can make my eyes water at times..)

Thanks for your help melly :)
Oh, yes i've miss-understood the article, because i've read it too fast, sorry :(. It was shortly before 8 p.m. and i wanted to switch off the lights. Next time i will take the time to read it properly :)

@ robiola: We hadn't got a blackout. Many people took part and what i didn't know it was a world wide action :)

ROGUE

Recently is more common to have kangaroos in backyards, because of dry conditions, and lack of food, grasses, etc.

Couple weeks ago i found a large male eastern grey kangaroo on the eastern freeway, about 8 km's out of melbourne, dead, But had to check it was male,
otherwise if female is good proceedure to check the pouch for baby  :smth023   That is how i found my little possum, and many others.

But was most unusual i thought- to see a kangaroo so close to city, Talking to wildlife organisations recently i found it its not so unusual,(melb) that there is a
group of them stranded between industrial area's for years,  On a small patch of grass. And the week before that one running through a inner city suburb
had to be bundled back to safety, after ripping police mans shirt to shreads.

Anyhow, not so interesting for everyone sorry.

But if you live on a farm you would definately have them in your backyard, and would want to keep them out.   Because they like to eat nice green vegies too.  :P

The one in pic looks to small, maybe wallaby (smaller species)

I like this Quote from J    :smth005
" Boy, I wish I had some Kangaroo in me this morning after a night of hard drinking last night!!!!! "  ~when i first read it i thought it meant to bounce out of bed,
then i realized,   ahh the gas, yes the gas  :smth044 :smth073

Geez, I didn't know... I hadn't heard about it! Maybe it wasn't very widely publicized here in Italy.... Or maybe I've got my head in the clouds a little too often. I'm glad a lot of people participated over there  :smth023
