you can say i must be old or something but i've noticed that i really miss 12" singles these days.
most importantly because of:
Because of the wider spacing of the grooves, a broader overall dynamic range (distinction between loud and soft) was made possible. :!:

the sound is/was always the best on 12" for this reason! just ask any DJ why they've always been into 12"s, even though CDs became available.... ever since digital stuff started to get distorted (because the dynamics were hammered out in the remastering process), i've really started to miss this format.
and 12" was always something special also because their vinyl album size artwork.

i really liked that format - so why no cure 12" releases anymore?  :(

call me prehistoric then ;)
nothing can beat faith (live), throw your foot or a foolish arrangement, to name just a few, in their vinyl versions --- awesome sound!
many 12"s have kept this quality over the years, i just wish the same thing could be said about LPs : since they have become some kind of a deluxe object, no particular attention is given by certain labels/artists on the mastering process.
for example (and this was the first album to have such a bad pressing), more money was spent on the fancy "broken glass" effect on the cover of disintegration than on the vinyl itself, which should have been a double (without even mentioning the two missing tracks!). see also different class by pulp, with its 12 different covers, and the worst pressing ever ; or more recently, the radiohead & portishead LP box sets, where you have the vinyl AND the CD or mp3 versions (as if you didn't want to listen to the vinyl anyway, just look at it).

but, to go back to the topic, and to be more optimistic, the fact that they are 4 singles, in their typical 7" form (one A, one B side), makes me hope for a better consideration of the format. we'll soon know! and i think this is a good idea anyway.

I've already pre-ordered Freakshow from Amazon, and have been told that delivery estimate will be 19 Jun 2008 - 26 Jun 2008. So a couple more weeks to wait!

I am SO curious about the next two singles due to be released in July and August. Wonder what the songs will be? There is no news anywhere.  :?

I've been wondering too but I rather wait till closer to the release dates before we know what will be released.  I'd like to be surprised with what they pick.

Underneath the Stars would be a great choice!  :smth023

I agree - Underneath the Stars would be a fantastic single!  :smth020
But I have a strange feeling that they will save it for the album.
(Or maybe even for the 'Christmas' album...)
Who knows?!
We will just have to wait and see what happens.  :)

Actually, I doubt that UtS would make a good single. It just doesn´t have that "single feeling" to it, it sounds more like an album track. Though i also have to admit that for the time being it seems that I´m one of the few that just doesn´t get the supposed greatness of UtS. It just kind of sounds like an average slow moody Cure song to me, the kind that they probably could have written in their sleep.

Now, as far as romantic ballads go, "One More Time" would have made a terrific single back in 1987... A missed opportunity, I think.

I bet The Perfect Boy gets released as a single. As for the other, though....
Another Curefan for The Dark Christmas album.

I have to dismiss that criticism on the basis that it's the same argument people who dislike Going Nowhere have used.

[Yes, some of those people really do exist. No, I don't know where they live.]
Another Curefan for The Dark Christmas album.
