We all know he uses lots of tapes with percussion sounds but this time -it seems like- he's been caught pre-recording his snare drum too!  :?

After watching him playing at the NME ceremony, I thought he finally got an acceptable sound for his snare drum but...

I don't see/hear nothing wrong here.

Yes I see it.
0min:50sec Jason hits the snare a few times, only the 1 sound.
Having Jason in the band is f*cking shit, full stop.
This is yet another new low.

When the cure play live I get a sense that Jason is struggling just to keep up little lone anything else. You'II notice he starts sweating really quickly, much sooner than the others do.  I dont just think its a lighting issue. But having said that I've been a Cure fan since 1980 and Jason is a real star compared to Lol who was absolute rubbish. Maybe Robert is so into his guitars than he is blind to it all. So is he cheating? Maybe so just to keep with the brilliant rest of the band. Thanks for reading.

That's what happens when you play drums.

*Yawn* Its a backing track, you're supposed to hear it

hmm i wish somebody simply sabotaged the backing track on some of their future shows, just "unplugged" it in the middle of a song here and there - then we'd hear what really goes on.
anybody out there who could perhaps volunteer and do that for us?   :P

thanks for the comment.
i think sometimes it can be about the group chemistry: even if some member is not on the same level of musicianship with the others, he might still remain in the band. maybe that's the case with jason(?): it's obvious he's not a great musician and one can only wonder how come that doesn't drive other band members just all too crazy and make them looking for a new drummer. but perhaps that might not work, maybe it would "break" something in the group chemistry right now. maybe it would be all too tedious to start auditioning for new drummers and therefore bring the band to a halt (which they don't wish to do right now). and maybe jason is simply a good pal, someone they feel at ease with - regardless of how good or bad musician he was.
and so, he'll stay in the band.
bands who have found a line-up where every single link is not just someone other members get along well with  but also a great musician - those bands are really really lucky.
like the cure was really lucky during the wish tour, with their killer line-up! :rocker

(thinking about that, i think i'm off to watch 'show'   :))

i honestly don't understand all the fuss about jason (again!!!  :smth011 ), but i have to agree with you that they probably let him stay for personal reasons and i don't see anything wrong with that.
i love the cure and i care more about them feeling good and in the mood for making music than some maybe existing backing track. They have come to a point where they don't have to prove anything to anybody ( certainly none of you) and can simply enjoy what they are doing!!!!!

Say hello on a day like today
Say it every time you move
The way that you look at me now
Makes me wish i was you

haha - well let's not humiliate the old bald growling man like that. ;)
or, maybe eldritch could hire "mr avalanche" to the cure next time/next tour. whatever the cure would lose there in having less "human touch" on stage, they'd certainly gain with at least staying on the beat. ;)

the further benefits of this (in addition to the pleasure of listeners of the cure of course) would be that eldritch could make a few extra bucks there, to compensate the money he loses in future record sales since he refuses to release any more albums. he could even consider lowering the ticket prices on his upcoming south american concerts - which would also benefit the overall happiness on this world. ;)
