Does anyone know anything about them if they continue on? It's high time to issue a new record after eight years.... :?

apparently there's a few new songs playing on LA's radio station Sonic Heaven.

I haven't heard them as of yet, but I think there's hope for us Portishead fans!

Well, Portishead's 'Third' has been out now for a few months already. A fine if somehow difficult album, me thinks...

Then there's Tricky's new album and before the end of 2008 we will also have the new Massive Attack production... Trip-hop is back, it seems!

I must say, I don't like the new album much... :(

I love the new album 'third'. I think it's actually their best.

Picked up Tricky's new one yesterday, and from first listen I'm liking it!!  :smth020

Well, it's far less catchy than 'Dummy'. And overall I think the number of GREAT songs is also inferior to that of 'Dummy'. But it is also forward-looking and... weel, it just sounds good to me. Maybe a couple of songs are too long and it´s a pity that the wonderful 'Deep Water' is over in less than 2 minutes. But other than that, I don't have many complaints.

japanesebaby

my only real complaint is that their 2008 tour was way too short and that they had no courage to venture any norther than copenhagen.

Fatter than Bob, balder than Porl, as sober as Simon, as amusing as Jason

I'm a bit tired of it now.  :? It's good but I still prefer their first two albums.

Do you mean "The Rip" !?  Actually, that's one of the 3-4 great songs on "Third"! Beautiful! And the first single, "Machine Gun" was very good too, with an aggressiveness that sounded somewhat surprising in this band. Overall, though, the album is merely GOOD, though, since most songs don't reach the level of brilliance that we can find in both "Dummy" and "NYC live".

Actually, "Third" might just be, by a small margin, the best 2008 album I've heard so far. I still haven't found any album that I could classify as GREAT...

I'd say it's a "goodish" album, more or less like "Juxtapose", quality-wise... It starts just fine but somewhat loses some of its inspiration towards the end. An interesting thing, though, is how, despite the variety of song styles, these cello and ukelele (is it?) sounds keep coming in most songs, helping give the album a sense of unity. But overall, as ever, Tricky is usually better when he goes slow than when he tries to rock out...

Anyway, other than "Maxinquaye" and "Nearly God", Tricky doesn't have other albums that could be called great, in my opinion. Those two are essential 90's recordings and somewhat representative of trip-hop at its best, but ever since he has lost much of his so-called genius... at least on a consistent basis.

I actually really like 'Pre-Millinium Tension'. And I find 'Angels with Dirty Faces' very enjoyable too, in my opinion :) 'Blowback' and 'Juxtapose' were forgetable, and the album with 'The Lovecats' cover was terrible, I don't even remember the title because I got rid of it so quickly, haha. But I agree the new album is good. It's a nice listen and easy to listen to from beginning to end without losing interest. It's good to see him make another quality record after a few hiccups! :smth023

Well, I don't dislike that album, there's some good stuff in it, but I think that it gets kind of dull-sounding and repetitive. This was a problem that already surfaced in the "Nearly God" album, but maybe the array of different guest singers on that one somewhat helped disguise it.
