No we are 5 I think, Marika, David, Brian, Druide and me !!!
I can sleep on the floor for 2 night 11 and 12 !!!

Tof, the rooms in the hostel I was thinking about have 4, 5 and 6 beds. So if you say we're 5 so far, it's no problem. Actually one more could join us.

if there is nothing booked yet... me and my two friends are also looking for a place to stay... so... any suggestions?

As I told to Tof and others before, I know a very good hotel 30' walk from Bercy. Perhaps we will rent now two rooms (for 5 persons each) instead one. Let's wait a bit till january to book?

Yes we must know how many time we will stay, 1, 2 or 3 nights, if there is 5 person who stay 3 nights in Paris I can stay 3 night if it's convenient for you.

One thing is sure, I arrived the 11 march and I must be in Anvers the 14 march and I must take my train ticket 3 month before to have a good price, I think about you David if you want a good price for Orange, take your train ticket soon !!!

I'll be arriving on the 11th and leaving the 14th as well.  So, 3 nights for me.  On the 13th I plan on going to the Louvre and Orsay if anyone would like to join me.

It is not possible to visit the Louvre in one day... it takes at least 2 or 3 days if you wanna absorb and see everything! especially if it is once in a lifetime opportunity. :!:

Come on.. d'orsay in one single day again??  obviously you guys need me there for CULTURAL reasons.. oh man.. I am distressed.  :(

japanesebaby.. what is stendhal's syndrome? mystified  :?

indeed, i'm simply worried for the health of anyone trying to accomplish louvre&d-orsay in a single day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stendhal_syndrome

Stendhal Syndrome or Stendhal's Syndrome is a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly 'beautiful' or a large amount of art is in a single place.

it's said to be typical for people visiting places like florence (firenze) where a person practically cannot avoid being exposed to massive amounts of art/aesthetic experiences all around...
i suppose places like louvre/d'orsay might qualify too.
...first diagnosed in 1982.

and even if one might manage to escape the stendhal's, then there's also the paris syndrome lurking around the corner...:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome

Exhaustion - finally, it is thought that the over-booking of one's time and energy, whether on a business trip or on holiday, in attempting to cram too much into every moment of a stay in Paris along with the effects of jet-lag all contribute to the psychological destabilisation of some.

we must watch out... paris is starting to sound dangerous...  :smth011

i've been to paris only two times but both times i've skipped visiting louvre altogerther, both times completely consciously. as i know that any sort of reasonable visit would take me several days, to get any sort of "conmprehensive" grasp of the place - so i've decided that maybe it's something i'll try when i'll be staying there for several weeks (that is, if i ever even will) and when i can afford to spend three days of my time in a museum.
what i've liked most on my both visits there was... walking. walking around, miles and miles, just being there. but then again, that's what i always do in a new place, in a new city: i walk around, endlessly. i guess that's just me...

anyway, back to the museums: i'd certainly recommend anyone a visit to the pompidou center. their collection of "classic" 20th century art is pretty mind blowing but not too large to get a good grasp on a single day. personally i consider it one of the best ever art collections/exhibitions i've ever had the chance to visit. i'd probably go there again if given a chance. besides, their collection is partially changing so there's always something new i'm sure.
besides, the building as such is worth a visit anyway, even if you didn't enjoy the art exhibitions:

maybe guys, you need to take it easy, and avoid ART altogether!! It might be cultural overload.  :?

consider anti-art immunisations??

Stendhal Syndrome sounds pretty cool, hallucinations w/o meds  :smth048 SWEET!  I think I'll speed walk through at least 5 museums in one day making the last stop be some sort of modern art museum.  The modern art museum at the Mall in Washington D.C. is pure shit and I wish I'd have been on drugs as that would have been far more interesting than the crap they called "art".

Seriously though, I'm very interested in visiiting the Louvre.  If it takes all day and I only make it half way through then so be it.  But thank you for the warning.

Cure Freak

If I had a chance to visit  The Louvre for a day, I would definitely do it.
I have spent  a day at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, my time there.

Descent

If anybody is into Modern Art, yes Pompidou center (also known as Beaubourg) is the way to go...

I've been to the Louvre 7 or 8 times. Yes, it's huge, but you can choose which parts you want to visit ! One includes all the Ancient art (Egyptian/Greek/Middle East), another has European 13th-19th century (mainly Italian/French/Dutch) paintings for instance. It can be very crowded after 12pm with people constantly taking pics of the Victory of Samothrace or the "Venus de Milo". Maybe better to get there much earlier in the morning or late afternoon (but only on Wednesdays/Fridays when it stays opened until 10pm).
