The CD single seems to be backordered everywhere in the US.  Universal drops the ball again.......

My take on "Freakshow" and "All That Stuff" (from iTunes download):  Great wah-guitar work (pretty funky) but not much else going on.  Robert's doing some "different" stuff with his voice and I find it to be, surprisingly, amelodic.  In fact, when I listen to both singles released (and both Bsides) it makes me crave the next two singles, if only out of hope that they release something truly amazing.  (seriously, where is Sleep When I'm Dead, Underneath the Stars, A Perfect Boy or The Boy I Never Knew... or Baby Rag Dog Book)

It's been pretty middle of the road so far, and I'm fairly disappointed with both releases - but my expectations were unreasonably high.

I will say this - Porl is absolutely incredible on every track.

Tried buy it this morning too from a few on-line places and all said backordered for 1-2 weeks.  I was like "Here we go again!!!"  I was able to get a copy from The Ideal Copy web site with nothing telling me it's on backorder order or unavailable.  Got an e-mail from them a few minutes later saying the order is being processed but nothing about being shipped yet.  So I'll have to wait & see.  They are usually quite good at getting stuff shipped out on the release date but if Universal is holding it up then I have no idea when it will shipped.

Went out to lunch to see if Best Buy & Circuit City had any but nothing to be found.  Didn't even see The Only One.  And the geeks at the store were clueless once again as to any news about the new single.  TYPICAL BS AT THESE PLACES!!!!

So it does look like Universal F**K UP once again!   :smth011

Freakshow

That's really annoying!!! I don't understand what they are aiming at! Is it so difficult just to sell this single??? One gets the impression that universal isn't interested in sold Cure cDs at all.
Show me how you do that trick...

punx_chix

Had never heard any of "all kinds of stuff", totallllly dig it!  :smth020 pretty dark and you can really hear Simon...
and freakshow sounds fuckin great compared to all the boots I've seen.
I'm going to go listen to them really loud..!!

...now i wonder when I'll get these in hard copy...?

Freakshow

You are so lucky!!! I couldn't get my hands on it yet. For i-tunes you need to have an American account as I had to realise - but the American mother of one of my pupils offered to buy it for me via her account today!!! Isn't that nice?

I've had The Only One, and I managed to find a copy of Freakshow in Borders a few hours ago. I was shocked. I almost didn't buy it, because I've got a copy coming on the 13th; but it was only two dollars, and it was a freaking Cure single. So I took the plunge....

I feel bad now, though. I'm going to have two copies, some of you won't have one. Sorry, guys!

That's where I got mine.  It was in the Misc. Folk section.

I see thecure.com webpage has been updated with a sample of Freakshow now.  :smth020

Ooohh, and I just noticed on my Amazon account page that my Freakshow CD is being prepared for despatching soon. Goody! I may even get it by the weekend, if I'm lucky!  :-D

I don't know, freakshow just doesn't do it for me. Any idea what the next single will be?

Bloodflower

COF's got a tip that the next single is Sleep When I'm Dead.

As for Freakshow: Live, I've really deplored it. You know, fun song and all, but I didn't miss it in Los Angeles. The studio version, though, on the single, is great. I really like it. Maybe it's because I can hear the bizarre vocals better now than I've been able to live and on recordings, maybe it's the mix, but something about it really works.

The Only One: B+
Freakshow: B

After my intital, admittedly harsh, reaction to Freakshow (and the other singles released) I'm going to have to change my tune a little... while I don't feel these have been GREAT Cure singles, the have grown on me quite a bit.  In fact, my "scathing" review earlier had caused me to obsessivley listen to them again.  I've been enjoying "All Kinds of Stuff" a lot and I finally have the melody from "The Only One" firmly stuck in my head.

The Only One: B
NY Trip: B-
Freakshow: C+
All Kinds of Stuff: B+

Well! If we're throwing b-sides into the mix:

The Only One: B+
NY Trip: B-
Freakshow: B
All Kinds of Stuff: B+

[The bass on All Kinds of Stuff is what does it for me.]

And I agree with you that none of them are GREAT Cure singles. [I referred to Freakshow as 'great' in my other post, but that was in the context of most of the stuff out there; not restricted, that is to say, to Cure singles.] I'm hoping Sleep When I'm Dead [which didn't knock me out in LA] will rise in stature in my mind the same way Freakshow has.
